This one came across as the writer having gone on a California vacation and trying to use it as a business expense.

It does come across that way! I looked it up: by this time Pasko had moved to California and was already working in television, having written an episode of the live action Buck Rogers series before moving into animation. So this is more like a guy working in Hollywood who decided to turn his experiences into a "wacky" and "zany" script.

To me it reads like someone who has no particular talent for comedy trying WAY too hard, but then which one of us ended up as story editor on Roseanne for a few months? (Hint: it was not me.)

What a fortunate coincidence. That Joker had found an abandoned amusement park with a funhouse that had a face paint that looks identical to his face.

Too bad it wasn't silver age Superman. He would had force Joker to married a gorilla or something else of humiliation embarrassment. Perry needs a long hug and a beer.

I feel like you don't respect marriage based justice!

1. Oh, man alive, that gorgeous Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez art. That gentleman could draw.

2. Is it me, or does the Joker's dialogue here seem particularly, er, Scans Daily-friendly? My man is turning the subtext into, appropriately enough, supertext.

That line has stuck in my memory since I first read this on the news-stands back in the 80's. Can't think why... ;)

Between that and the 1980's Brave and the Bold Batman/Joker team up where the Joker claims he is being framed for murdering the Penguin on live TV, and his argument against is "If I HAD killed ol' Pengy, I wouldn't be denying it, I'd be giving INTERVIEWS!"

That gentleman still can! He celebrated his 78th birthday last month and is still as revered by his peers as he ever was. And yes, that art is sublime!

I'm always sad when I read comics like this. They don't do Joker stories like they used to.

Yes, he's all Heath Ledger and Jared Leto and not enough Cesaer Romero and Mark Hamill (prior to the Arkham Asylum games).

I'd be happy for some Jack Nisholson. Sure, he was still a murderous SOB, but the murder wasn't the point. the fun was and he certainly seemed to have a sense of humor about it. Modern Joker just doesn't do jokes.

Ehhh...murder was sort of the point...but it was murdering with style. Putting two parts of Smile X into different products and seeing how many fall victim to it? That's murder for the sake of murder but with a wicked prankster twist. It was an art.

Modern Joker doesn't even use the old gags anymore. He'd rather use knives and plastic explosives than razor playing cards and exploding marbles.

Prankster has some impressive arm strength grabbing someone like that with one arm while holding on the side of a speeding van with the other.
