Cemetery Kids Don't Die is game horror.
Oct. 5th, 2025 12:50 pmIt's four teens, the already unsettling game they're playing, and further unsettling.
One of them opens issue #1 describing herself already shook: " Nothing scares me anymore.
" My worst nightmare has already happened. "

" I know that's super fucked up. "
She was interrupted by the game's fucked-up-ness - fish monsters - scaled up.

It was a party wipe.

' .. but I never remember dying. '

Pik went to get his sister up.

Over breakfast, the openness that'd had Birdie unburdening at the start grated without malice.

In school that day, Pik continued feeling his neck.

That evening, Birdie and the other two - Enid and Wilson - went in before Pik.
They picked up a quest.

" .. over there. "
They went over there, triggering the attack of the Oarsman's fishermen.
Pik, logged in, jumped into the fray -

- and took a wound.
" Enid, we need a heal! "

There was friction again between Birdie and Pik.

They won the fight - Pik took another wound.

Birdie and friends awoke and took off their Dreamwaves.
Pik was still in the game (eliciting a worried and curious " .. it's like he found a way to override the Dreamwave's eight-hour limit. ") - they talked about him.

They had ten hours until their Dreamwaves'd let them back in - they spent them on " pizza[ a]nd watch[ing] terrible movies[.] "
Pik woke up during the movies.

' .. but he got us where we needed to go. '
The Oarsman landed a blow on Pik -

- and something worse came for him.

(If Skeith, the Terror of Death, had a fleshier aesthetic.)
Birdie and co. defeated the Oarsman.

" I.. I'm getting booted. "
Birdie woke, and so did the others, to find Pik caught.

Pik's neck was fine, but " He's in a coma.

(The doctor thinks Pik just had some kind of seizure.)
Enid and Wilson'd come to offer support and an end-of-issue reveal:

(Pagecount's 7 and a little more than 2/10ths of 22 from Cemetery Kids Don't Die #1 back in February 2024 - the sequel series, Cemetery Kids Run Rabid, is two issues in this year.
