The New Mutants mount a rescue with the aid of Kitty and Rachel.

That’s a bloody lie. This story isn’t remotely finished yet.

Next: Richard Dragon #11.

Are you not entertained?
"Nope. It's a bloody Secret Wars II tie-in, so what half this issue isn't taken up with Kitty or Claremont going full Claremont is everyone yammering about the Beyonder."

The New Mutants are being targeted by a possibly Asian looking person with telepathy and the ability to control minds, who sometimes lapses into speaking French.
But who, who could this mystery personage be?
(You fool! It's a silhouette! It could be anyone!)

... reading these issues and the latter-set X-Men stuff from a few years on, get this building feeling that maybe Claremont doesn't like Dazzler terribly much.
Not in the normal way of putting a character through the grinder to see what they're made of, show their strength through adversity sort of thing.
Just actually, genuinely not liking her.
Half the X-Men and New Mutants seem to regard her as a no-good flake who's either five minutes from f*cking up or don't trust her (there's a bit next issue where Illyana tells Kitty if Ali turns on them again she's just straight chucking her back into Limbo and leaving her there), or just the absolute scum because she... wants to be famous?
Okay, yeah, that's maybe not the greatest motivation for anyone to want, but we got a villain forcing people to fight to the death or commit suicide at their demand.
And then when she does make decisions, they're usually... kind of stupid and make things worse.

Kitty seems to be about the only one willing to give her a fair shake.

... thinking along the same lines with Cynthia over in the JLA posts, about an example of a character in a superhero comic book who, maybe, just isn't cut out for the heroing business. They might have the attitude, and some skill but at the end of the day they just aren't suited for it, and should politely duck out before something truly hideous happens to them.

(We also get a variation on "body and soul" this ish: Heart, soul and, er, gut.
Not quite as catchy.)
