(Also true of other forms of serial entertainment, such as Golden Age Saturday matinee serials and Old Time Radio dramas—which can make a feature pieced together from unedited episodes an exercise in tedium; that was the main reason I handed off The Return of Chandu to a Béla Lugosi completist.)
(And kudos to The Phantom (1996) for summarizing the hero’s origin story and legacy in a brief prologue and then plunging into the action.)
