I've made a couple posts in the Caid Rapier group on Yahoo, but haven't gotten a response. (I'm starting to think I pissed someone off or something)
I recently moved from Barony of Angels to Barony of Dreiburgen (San Bernardino area) and I'm trying to find out when and where the rapier practice is. I'm a novice and not even authorized yet, but I'm eager to get back into it and get more involved with the SCA in general.
Can anyone help?
Hello all,
I've read and heard the term "late period" with regards to those who play in the SCA. I am now gathering up images for my own research, and wondered when approximately "late period" would be? As in how late is late?
Thanks.

curious

Greetings!
If I may, I would like to ask a favor of the newcomers here. (and anyone else who might have input, of course)
I'm currently serving as Chatelaine for my barony. (you may also know this office as Hospitaller or Gold Key... aka newcomer liason)
At our next Kingdom Collgegium, I'll be hosting a newcomer forum. Essentially, rather than being a lecture-style SCA 101 class, I'd like it to be a safe place to ask all those odd questions, get a basic orientation, and open the floor to discussion. The other purpose of this forum is to get feedback from the newcomers on how we can serve YOU better in getting started in the SCA.
I thought I'd go over some of the basics: the history and structure of the SCA, Inc, general whozats and whatzats, etc. But really I'd like this to go beyond that to all those things I don't see, what do YOU want to know about the SCA and how to have a really good time at this game.
So, please, if you would, *especially* if you've been in the SCA for under 2 years, what would you like to see or learn about in such a forum?
Throw oddball questions at me (even if you think they've been asked 1000 times, especially if you think they've been asked 1000 times!) What did the people you first met do (or not do) to help you get aquainted? And what do you wish, in your wildest dreams, your Chatelaine could or would have done for you when you first started?
I took this office because I really want to help people have as much fun as I have and still do! but times have changed, and even the SCA has changed in the mumbleyears since I was new. (for example, the internet was still in black & green back then...so the advice I can give people today is much different!)
Please don't be shy! This is your *our* opportunity to help make the SCA a more inviting place for all of us!
ETA: (because I just thought of it) For those of you not-so-newcomers, what advice would you, knowing what you know now, give to yourself as a newcomer back then, if you could. :-)

Mickey has been awake and alert, they tested his motor and speech functions and they are great! He had the same injury in the same place to the same degree as the actress who died last week. Mickey got medical treatment in time.
Merrick has come out of surgery just fine. His kneecap was broken - not the tibia as originally thought. Also, the rest of is injury is not nearly as bad as they thought! Awesome news all around!
JoAnn is asking people to please wait for information rather than calling her. We have a chain of informants and will keep everyone informed! They have limited battery power and reception at the hospital is not great.

full of hope

Hakon (m.k.a. Mickey Radelt), 19 years old, was doing yard work this afternoon and was struck on the head by a tree branch. He was bleeding internally and they did emergency brain surgery to cauterize a blood vessel in his brain. He is currently in ICU. So far they are worried about his speech being slow, but they believe his surgery was successful.
Leoric (m.k.a. Merrick Radelt), 15 years old, is having knee surgery tomorrow afternoon. He injured his knee at a LARP last weekend.
Hakon is an adult heavy fighter and Leoric is the Northwoods Baronial Youth Boffer Champion as well as being a recipient of the Award of The Baton. Their parents are Lord Schwartz Wilhelm and Lady Petra both Heavy Fighters of Ironwolf. They are in the Midrealm.
This is cross-posted every place I can think of to post it!
UPDATE 3-30 11AM - from his Dad (Lord Schwartz Wilhelm)
Mick is currently sleeping. He came through surgery well. He has a linear fracture on the left side, behind the ear going toward the top of the skull. An artery in the subdural layer was cut by the fracture. This was the reason for the bleeding. They cauterized the bleeding artery and truncated it at the branch. After which they bled him, Actually, allowed the excess fluids to drain. The fracture is expected to heal on its on without complications. He was/is talking and all neurological indicators look very good for a full recovery.

I am trying to flesh out my persona finally. I am working on an Irish persona and thinking of going with the 14th or 15th century. I am also thinking of being from around Meath since that is where many major events happened (book of Kells for example). However I am having a hard time finding much about that time period in that area that is truly concrete to help me with my persona. Can anyone give me any websites to read that show garb, events, etc or books to check out? I do know that some of what I found says in the 15th century Tudor England influenced Ireland but again it does not seem concrete enough to go with. I don't want to mess this up.
Thanks in advance.
Good morning!
I'm not exactly a newbie, but have invited my housemate to start coming to events with me. She has an African studies interest, and is interested in deveoping a Berber/Amazigh/Tuareg persona. I'm looking for a direction in which to look as far as garb, names, etc used in the SCA period for her. I have access to some good libraries in addition to the internet, so am more than willing to go reading actual paper as well.
Thank you!
