Introducing: FRIDAY FIGHTER (and A&S) FORUMS!

FRIDAY FIGHTER (and A&S) “FORUMS”

WHAT: A practice/workshop/training session for those interested in the Armored Combative Arts. (Informal A&S sessions will happen on these days as well.)

WHEN: Starting July 8th, 2011 the sessions will be held on the 2nd and 4th Friday of each month (if it conflicts with a Crown or Coronet tourney we will reschedule as needed).

TIME: 7:00 – 9:00pm. (Bring something to toss on the grill and hang out after.)

WHERE: Chateau de Camville located at 2735 Possum Creek Lane in Placerville, CA. 95667  (530) 621-2430

You are invited to attend a bi-monthly combative arts training session/practice/workshop which will happen on the 2nd and 4th Friday of each month starting July 8th, 2011. The training will begin at 7:00pm (so getting there a little early is recommended) and will run until 9:00pm. THIS IS OPEN TO ALL LEVELS OF COMBATIVE ART STUDENT! We’ll have exercises, drills and sparring for every level of combatant. Bring your fighting gear, a chair, a beverage, a GREAT attitude and improve your combative art skills!

Not a fighter? No worries! The house will be open for informal A&S activities! Bring your projects (or offer to teach a class) and let your creative energies flow!

Bring something to toss on the grill or a something to share and hang out afterwards and enjoy the cool country nights!

Kids are welcome. We have lots of space and a swing set for them to play on. PARENTS NEED TO BE MINDFUL AND ATTENTIVE TO THE NEEDS AND BEHAVIOR OF THEIR CHILDREN. We want these sessions to be fun and productive for all who attend! Please keep this in mind.

Dogs are welcome too! Please note that there are three horses and two friendly dogs on the property. Dogs are welcomed BUT they should be leashed up, if your canine has wanderlust, as the surrounding area is pretty vast, heavily wooded and there is an irrigation canal nearby. Please keep your dogs tethered to something (we have two dog runs and a large kennel available) if you are concerned about them getting lost. If your pups know enough to come home after an adventure it is up to you! Stickers and ticks will be in season! The horses are not afraid of dogs and can potentially kick at them if pestered. Just an FYI.

Crash/camp space is available! Simply let us know by Thursday afternoon (email is best) that you may need space and we’ll prepare it for you!

DIRECTIONS: From Hwy 50 heading towards Placerville, take the Missouri Flats Road exit and head SOUTH. Follow Missouri Flats Road (you’ll pass several strip centers) until it T-stops at Pleasant Valley Road./Hwy. 49. Make a LEFT on Pleasant Valley Road. You’ll go through part of Diamond Springs (really cheap gas there). There is an unoccupied office building on the right hand side just before Hanks Exchange Road. Make a RIGHT on Hanks Exchange Road.  Make a LEFT on Ranch Road (it’s gravel from here). Stay on Ranch Road (there is a fork and going to the right puts you back on Hanks Exchange). Make a RIGHT on Kenwood Rd. Make a SHARP LEFT at Possum Creek. At the end of Possum Creek there are two long driveways. Take the one to the LEFT and it will lead you to the last house on the left!

If you have questions or comments please contact us at dcamville@hughes.net or give us a call at the number above.

Combative Arts Classes to begin in January

As part of my promise to HRH Catherine to foster the combative arts I will be hosting a series of combative arts classes starting on Wednesday January 12, 2011 at the Golden Rivers practice/gather which is held at Carmichael Park (5750 Grant Ave. Carmichael, CA).
Classes will begin at 7:00pm and will last one hour.
Classes will be hosted weekly (weather permitting).
We will focus on the skills needed to become comfortable and confident in the SCA's armored combat activities.
Student do not need armor but should have a "sword length" stick of rattan or wood waster and basic pads. Shields would also be a great idea. Some loaner gear will be available until week 5.
Each class builds upon the material covered in the previous class so it is recommended that student do their best to attend each class.

Also, in conjunction with these classes, Chateau de Camville will be hosting a Combative Arts/A&S Weekend on March 12, 13 & 14, 2011.
The weekend will include at least FIVE meals and a revel, lots of training, classes, laughter and fellowship. Camp and crash space are available when you RSVP. We are looking for teachers to share an art or science that are passionate about. If you want to share your skills with others please let us know. The weekend will be held in Mountains Gate at 2735 Possum Creek Lane in Placerville, CA. Watch for a post containing further information soon.

For Sale: Gambeson/Arming Cotte

Made by Revival/Circa 1400.
All natural fibers(100% cotton) for padding, lining and shell.
Black in color.
Size: LARGE (chest size 46)
NEVER USED! Washed once in cold water and hung dry to soften the material.
The gambeson/arming cotte/zuparello features hand made cloth buttons which will not break in combat and which compress nicely under armour.

The arms feature the “grand assiette” construction, which enables a wonderful range of motion and movement of the arms--even over the head--without drawing the hip region upward or cutting the area under the arms open (which seems dangerous, given how frequently historical texts thrust under the arm!).
This arming cotte design is field-proven and is designed by Brian R. Price and Deborah St. James, as shown in Techniques of Medieval Armour Reproduction.

Asking $150.00 (SHIPPING INCLUDED in continental U.S)
