Toronto for 2007! (Alohomora: Unlocking the Gates to Harry Potter

***I realize this post doesn't pertain to shoebox_project, but I thought it might be of interest since it has to do with both Harry Potter and Toronto. If this post violates this community's rules, I apologize, and I understand if it must be taken down.***

Most of you have probably heard about Lumos 2006, Phoenix Rising 2007, The Witching Hour, Convention Alley, etc.

What are they? They are mostly academic (but not entirely) conferences/symposiums/conventions about the Harry Potter books. (To get a better idea of what they're all about, check out the links above.)

Harry Potter Education Fanon (HPEF), a non-profit educational organization is currently accepting bids for the location of a similar event in 2007. On the HPEF 2007 event thread on the Lumos message board, I suggested Toronto as an option, because I don't want to pay for airfare because Toronto would be an ideal place to host such an event.

A couple of other people who are interested in putting in a bid for Toronto have created a website and a theme for a possible symposium in Toronto:

Alohomora 2007: Unlocking the Gates to Harry Potter

If you (or anyone you know) would like to help out with researching, organizing, and documenting the bid (which is due March 31st, 2006), please talk to me or e-mail: alohomora2007@yahoo.com.

Note: You don't have to live in Toronto to help out! Anyone from anywhere is welcome! And please pass on the link to the website: http://www.geocities.com/alohomora… to fellow HP fans, to your friends-list, etc.

Thank you!

Hooray! The meet-up is tomorrow!

I think that I'm re-dying my hair tonight so that I'll be easy to spot: Black at the very tips of my hair, and hot pink just above it.

I'm bringing my camera, too. :)

Okay, everyone... a friendly reminder!!

Toronto's Shoebox Project Meet-up is this Saturday @ Indigo in The Eaton Center!
Please leave a comment if you're planning on coming!

Who: You, of course.
What: Toronto's Shoebox Meet-Up.
Where: Indigo in the Eaton Center... More specifically, Starbucks in Indigo.
When: Saturday, Feb. 12 @ 1pm
Why and how sort of take care of themselves, I think.

I'm sorry to any of you who can't attend, but if this one goes well, I'm sure that we could have others.

Do we want to wear something recognizable, like a certain colour, or something?

Hooray! I'm really excited that this is finally happening! :)

Since I didn't get a very big response from the last post that I made about changing the date, here's another little poll. As it stands right now, I'm quite sure that I'm going to change it to February 12th, because nearly half of the people who answered the last poll said that they couldn't make it on January 29th.

So. The date of the Toronto Shoebox Project Meet-Up has been changed to Saturday, February 12th!

Can you come to the Shoebox Project Meet-Up on Saturday February 12th?

Yes
4(44.4%)
No
2(22.2%)
Maybe
3(33.3%)

If you said maybe or no, what's keeping you from saying yes?

All of the rest of the information about the meet-up is the same as originally planned in this post.

I'm sorry for changing the date on you guys... I know that you've all been waiting patiently for this.

MOD POST! PLEASE READ!!

Alright. So it sounds like there are a few of you who can't go to the meet-up on the 29th.

If I changed the date to February 12th, would everyone be able to make it? Something has come up on my end too, and I'll cancel those plans if I have to, because I want this meet-up to happen... But Feb.12 would be best for me.

What about the rest of you? February 12, or the original date of January 29th?

I'll make another post on Sunday night to let you know what the final, confirmed, not-to-be-changed-under-any-circumstances date is.

MOD POST!

Finally! Christmas is over and I've settled down and all that, so now it's time to announce the quazi-official date of the Shoebox Meet-Up in Toronto!

That's right, folks! The Toronto Shoebox Meet-Up is on January 29th, 2005!

I apologize for the short notice and I hope that everyone is able to come. If it turns out that there are a lot of you who can't make it to the meet-up because of the date, it's not too late to re-arrange... But until further notice, January 29th is the official meet-up date.

So. Getting down to business:

Who? Fans of Shoebox or Harry Potter in general. Bring your friends!!
What? The first annual Canadian Shoebox Project meet-up.
Where? Indigo in the Eaton Center in Toronto. (On 220 Younge Street.)
When? January 29th. The time of the meet-up will be posted after you take the poll and let me know what's best for you.
Why? To meet cool people in close proximity and to show those New Yorkers that we're just as cool as them. :P
How? A lot of disorganized planning on my part and hopefully a lot of RSVPs on your part.

Will you be able to make it to the meet up on January 29th?

Yes
6(60.0%)
No
4(40.0%)

What time is best for you?

Morning: 10am-12pm
1(14.3%)
Afternoon: 1pm-3pm
6(85.7%)
Evening: 4pm-6pm
0(0.0%)
Night: 6pm-9pm
0(0.0%)

If you can't make it, why not?

Do you have any suggestions as to what we should do?

Amelie

MOD POST! PLEASE READ!

Hey there guys!

I hope that everyone had a great holiday!

Mine has been really busy and I'm ashamed to admit that I sort of forgot about the Shoebox Meetup. I still want to do it, and I will.. But I'm thinking now that it ought to be at the end of January. January 29th is a Saturday... How is that for everyone?

If it's not good for you, let me know. Nothing's set in stone yet, but it will have to be soon.

IF YOU'RE COMING TO THE MEET-UP, PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT SAYING SO!

I'd like to know how many of you are planning on being there.

See you all soon! <3
