Albus Severus Potter and the Day of Dread
by Helen Krummenacker
Albus had been trying to hide it, but he'd been afraid of leaving for Hogwarts for weeks. Not because his parents had both nearly died there, nor even because having the names of two recent Headmasters gave him a ridiculous amount to live up to. No, the problem was that for weeks he'd been having nightmares, that something terrible was going to happen to the people they left behind. He never remembered exactly what he saw in the dream, but always the same words would be echoing in his brain after he woke up, shivering and drenched in sweat.
The train pulled away from the station. He scrunched his eyes shut, dreading to look back. The train chugged on, and after awhile, he felt he could stand to look. Surely, nothing would happen that he could see from here. Perhaps, after all, it had been only a dream.
A strange light traveled to the sky from, or from near, King's Cross Station. He imagined, although of course he could not hear from there-- perhaps it had been in the dream-- the crack of someone Disapparating. Seconds later, lights appeared in the sky, falling at incredible speed. Meteorites!
Albus rose to his feet, eyes fixed with horror on the cloud that rose up as the stones from the sky hit the station.
He heard the words from his haunting dream fall from his own lips: "Rocks fall; everybody dies."
He fainted away even as a keening arose from the students who looked back.
