It's my turn to do a little music pimping

So I'm totally inspired to do this post by devilduckieee because her musical pimping posts are always so great and I either learn new music or relearn why I love a particular band so much.

So I want to do some pimping of my own.

You may have heard of this singer before. I don't care because you should hear her again because she's awesome. Her name is Melody Gardot (what an awesome name for a jazz singer I say), and she does jazz/blues. Very Etta James in style, but not quite as sassy. She has a very smooth, soulful voice (I know the adjective 'soulful' is overused, but trust me, when you hear this girl's voice you're immediately hooked. It's very engaging). I don't normally listen to jazz. I like a few tracks when I hear them, but I don't really seek it out. Not the style I immediately gravitate towards. To be honest, I get kind of bored with it usually.

That's why I was surprised to find myself so entranced by Melody Gardot.

I found out about her yesterday, in a really weird way... I read this one fashion blog and they featured a post of her with some dude who was wearing a masquerade style mask at the Cannes Film Festival. The post was actually mainly about her, and that when they googled her, they found out all kinds of awesome stuff. Apparently she had been in a really terrible accident when she was 19. A car ran through a red light and knocked her off her bike. She suffered serious spinal and head injuries, in addition to losing most of her memory and not being able to speak. She eventually was able to hum simple tunes which eventually allowed her the ability to speak and express herself again. So she really is an advocate for music therapy. But she still suffers an extreme sensitivity to light and sound from the accident, so she wears sunglasses all the time. Oh, and she's also a hardcore buddist and sold her apartment in Philadelphia and gave away her pets so that she could live with as little possessions as possible. Girl is legit. Here's her wikipedia page: Melody Gardot.

And her voice. Oh, her voice. Sends chills down the spine. She's the real deal folks. Just listen, all right?

Only in Japan...(NSFW)

If you haven't seen this trailer yet, you must. It's for a totally whacked out indie horror/action movie called "RoboGeisha". The WTF factor is high, but I totally laughed at this because I first thought this was a parody movie type of thing, but actually, I think it's a real movie...trying to be a serious movie. If so, that makes it so much better.
Caution: there's some big EWW WTF elements in this - random girl getting stabbed in the butthole for instance. Watch at your discretion, but if you understand Japanese stuff, you will ROFL.

Watchmen

was SO GOOD! I loved it. I especially loved it in IMAX. OMG. It was fantastic. Loved Nite Owl II (aka Dan). Rorschach was really good too... great performance.

It's VERY violent though and there's some softcore pr0n in it as well, lol. At one point I had to plug my ears (for the part where a guy's arms get sawed off... yeah).

But I want to see it again. Maybe this week. My tax refund came through so YAY. I have some monies. :D :D

You Never Said - a Dean/Jo fanvid

Yes, here's my first supernatural fanvid and it's for Dean/Jo. Took me awhile. Now that I have caught up with season 4 I felt the need to finish it. I think it came out pretty damn good. Out of all Dean's little pairings, I like her the best. <3

Writer's Block: Gone but Not Forgotten

Many beloved television shows are no longer with us, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Six Feet Under, and Mystery Science Theater 3000. What defunct television show do you miss the most?

I think this was asked a couple months ago but I will repeat. FIREFLY.

However, I also miss The Pretender. And remember that one show where the guy gets the newspaper for tomorrow and he has to go and try to stop whatever disaster is going to take place? I don't remember the name of that show, but I was fond of it. The lead guy was really cute. <3
