While everyone is quite distracted with the terrorist assaults on Ottawa and border blockades, the ~~War Measures Act~~ Emergency Act, and the surrender of most governments to the aforementioned terrorists/covid, the Ford Regime went and stealthily announced that they would be privatizing health care. There are some complexities to it but if you read my blog, you know what this government is after, and that's enriching their cronies at the expense of the citizenry. This opens the door for American-style healthcare where if you're rich, you've got access, and if you're anyone else, you can just fuckin' die.

While we're on the topic of things that everyone in this cursed so-called country should be freaking out about, Keeseekoose First Nation discovered another 54 unmarked graves of children, and I have seen barely a headline about it.

Mike Harris created a crisis by firing nurses from the public health care system, and then started a for-profit company renting out nurses to wealthy people distressed by the shortage of nurses in the public health care system.

At least Ford is taking advantage of an existing crisis, rather than deliberately creating a fresh one.

I always think about the various cultures who've practiced human sacrifice and on my darkest days, I think that this base impulse doesn't go away, it just transmutes into war and murder and callous disregard for life.

so you would expect it to stop once there was

b) reliable access to contraception...

Oh um, yipes. Our healthcare is a shitshow. I wouldn't go so far as to say if you're not rich, you die, but it certainly makes life more difficult than it needs to be and people do fall between the cracks with some frequency. It's not good.

Sounds like it's not yet departing from single-payer, just the single-payer is paying a lot more into the coffers of private corporations, but obviously it's not many more steps further.

They're not quite so stupid to go all the way at once. It's an attempt to defund the system, leading to privatization, with those private actors already in place to take over. They have been doing exactly the same thing with the school system.
