I've been thinking about how I've been feeling about this, and my friend and I feel slightly guilty about being *so happy about this*. And I wonder if part of it is that we (particularly as brown women) are always asked to bend & build bridges to people who think of us as less than human 1/

Claire Willett's threads (et al.) have been a joy to read on Bluesky. And educational. (In so many ways! As someone from Chicago, who spent some time at the Jesuit university there, who has Catholic heritage & friends, who is a nerd and nerd-affirming, and who has wished for institutional pushback against fascism, etc. etc.)

Look the Roman Church and I will always find ourselves in opposition on some matters, and I’m as aware of their ugly histories as I am of any other political or cultural body of power’s.

But they exist, and there is basically no chance of them ceasing to exist and hold huge social power in my lifetime. So with that in MIND, I will happily celebrate them reining in and dealing with some of their ugliest parties and given my own goals I will be happy to be delighted by Roman pontiffs who are more worried about migrants and the poor than they are about shaking their fists at everyone else.
