RUSTY'S JOURNAL
What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?

ª about this journal
I adore staying at home but I have traveled a lot. I think rats make great pets. I have a sassy Maine coon cat living with me. I get along with my parents very well.

I teach English as a Second Language to college students and adults. I like my job.

Alas, I'm not stylish and I buy cheap shampoo. I frequently wear hand-me-downs. I love all kinds of tea and looking at the sky at night. The pathetic fallacy is my friend.

In addition to the feline roommate, I have several action figures who fill my days with their wacky antics.

may my heart always be open to little
birds who are the secrets of living
whatever they sing is better than to know
and if men should not hear them men are old

may my mind stroll about hungry
and fearless and thirsty and supple
and even if it's sunday may i be wrong
for whenever men are right they are not young

and may myself do nothing usefully
and love yourself so more than truly
there's never been quite such a fool who could fail
pulling all the sky over him with one smile

~e.e. cummings

I should not talk so much about myself if there were anybody else whom I knew as well. Unfortunately, I am confined to this theme by the narrowness of my experience.

~Henry David Thoreau, Walden, "Economy"

...you know when you're a kid, they tell you it's all "Grow up, get a job, get married, get a house, have a kid" and that's it. Nah. The truth is the world is so much stranger than that, it's so much darker. And so much madder. And so much better.

~Doctor Who "Love and Monsters"
ª fandoms
My Buffy obsession outstripped every other former obsession in dedication, scope, and variety. Lately, though, I feel like I'm cheating on Buffy with Doctor Who & friends. I have intense flings with other shows (Primeval, Wonderfalls and Dawson's Creek come to mind) and I save warm spots in my heart for all of my older loves (Star Wars, Narnia, X-Files, Stargate: SG-1, anything involving Superman, among others) but I've only ever had those two serious relationships with *fandom*.
