While the stylistic decisions made to bring Hotel Dusk: Room 215 to life are striking all their own, one unique approach that was decided upon was the actual orientation of the Nintendo DS console. Rather than held horizontally as normal, the game instead asks for the player to hold the DS in a vertical perspective, making it feel like a notebook in their hands. This matches very effectively with the theming of the narrative, with the player in the shoes of a detective trying to solve an odd and unusual mystery.

genre of game: Furry Noir Detective

tails noir: (previously backbone) 10/10 game with incredible world building. just as beautiful as it seems

chicken cop saga: very similar world building and the smoothest mechanics out of all of these. so so so fun in visuals and writing

blacksad: if you like the comics you might like the game too. or vice versa. much more annoying to play but otherwise comparable

cat detective: watch the trailer. need i say more ?

Event[0] is an impressive first person sci-fi narrative thriller where your talk with an artificial intelligence and and explore a deserted space station to find what happened to its missing crew.

The atmosphere and visuals design of the game are excellent, pulling you into this mysterious adventure.  Exploring the abandoned station and chatting with the station’s AI that you don’t know if it has a consciousness or not, out to hurt or help you is an interesting and thrilling experience.  Conversations with the AI are surprisingly fluid, considering you can type whatever you want into the interface - making you feel like you’re actually having a conversation with a Sci-Fi AI like MU-TH-UR or HAL.

With it’s impressive AI conversations, unsettling atmosphere and mysteriously deserted space station setting, in Event[0] you really could be exploring the aftermath of 2001: A Space Odyssey.  Just beware if you suddenly hear “Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do….

“Ah! She likes this!” “What was that?” “Leftover roasted appledews.” “She didn’t want appledews, but roasted appledews are good?” “Such is the power of cooking.” HAVEN ▴ 2020, dev. The Game Bakers
