The leaves are turning, the fog is rising, a chill wind creeps from the void. Smells like cider, and pumpkin, and way too much candy. Time to dim the lights and party all night. It's the muthatrukken AniRave! Caffeinated imagery blasted straight into your cerebral cortex! Only the greatest fusion of Japanese shenanigans with the occult. Is it cursed? That's a secret ;3

Provided all goes as planned, we'll have the animus on the big screen, some sp00ky tabletop shenans and/or vidja in the tabletop room, and ample crash space... all over the place. Plenty of room when you have a potentially haunted, semi-rundown brick Victorian. We'll have a selection of Japanese snacks and fuds and drunks, cider and pumpkin flair, might have a Jack-o'-Lantern carving contest, Darkly's gonna mix up some sodas Italian-style, maybe do some cosplay, generally have a fantabulous tem.

What to bring? Yourselves. Muns for peetzer. Any neat finds in the media realms. Snacks and drinks if'n you so feel. Did I mention cash money dollars for fuds and drunks? Es muy importante. Yes, we have a VCR. Yes, we have a LaserDisc player. Yes, we have the vast majority of consoles and then some. Not sure if we can support a ThingWhatHasBeenFound.tm? Just ask. Chances are, we can.

Updates, Japan, and AniRave 2023!

Hello hello! It’s been a minnit. Some major updates in the life of a Berreh have happened, and I s’pose it’s past time for an update!
For starters, lost my job at GFS towards the end of last year. Some stupid corporate bollocks, as you do. This turned out to be a very good thing, as it led to me getting back into college! That’s right, this one is now a student at Antioch. Celebrate, or summat!

Antioch has this wonderful thing where, due to their insane network of alumni globally, they are able to hook you up with institutions around the world that fit the kind of work that you’re attempting to find. Not only are they able to, they freakin’ *require* it. The last time I had tried to get in, cancer attacked. I bashed it back to the unholy depths from whence it came, and tried again. If you qualify for a Pell grant, you qualify for a scholarship that covers the remainder of costs. Ergo, I’m in it to win it. Or summat.
I’m studying creative writing as explored through culture and travel. My first co-op is coming up at the end of August. In JAPAN.

That said, it means I won’t be around for Halloween. Which means the AniRave needs to take a temporary jump back to the summer. Which is, well, now! So, without further ado:

It’s summer, Canada’s on fire, the weather is hot hot hot, so methinks it’s time to chillax and enjoy some cold refreshments and anime! Maybe tell some spooky stories, watch some hanabi, break open a watermelon, eat some ikayaki, and generally have a great time! Might even head to the beach, if there’s enough interest ;3

As usual, anime on the big screen, vidya on the small screen, maybe some tabletop on the table. Prolly order a peetzer or five and always have an ample selection of drinks both alcoholic and non as well as plenty of Japanese snax. Wanna cosplay? Go for it! Wanna bring something neat? Do it! Sky’s the limit. Not sure if we can support your latest awesomefindofthemoment.tm? We prolly can, so bring it anyway!

Sayonara Chryssi

Couple weeks back, I was on my way to dad's to do some laundry when I awoke to a tapping on my driver's door. In a bit of a daze I attempted to open the door... nothing. Clambered on out the passenger's side and was led to an ambulance. Hospital trip, x-rays, ct scans later... I'm bruised and have a sprained ankle and a concussion. Go me. From what the cop could figure, two wheels decided to hydroplane flinging my car into a guardrail, I attempted to regain control of it, overcorrected, and flung myself off the road and into a tree and fencepost.



Not drivin' away in that, that's for sure.

It's alright tho. I'm not terribly injured and insurance is handling things rather swimmingly, for the time being anyway. Even somehow managed to get an upgrade out of it all. Chryssi was an '02 Honda Odyssey, top end minus nav sys but with a few quirks (driver's side back door wouldn't open, no heat or a/c, rear windshield wiper didn't work.. small stuff like that). Managed to utilize part of the insurance payout to acquire a shiny new(er) '07 Honda Odyssey... top of the line model below the "Touring" trim class. And everything works. Hello, moonroof! Hello, climate control! What am I even supposed to do with a built-in DVD player? Is that a towing package... already installed? Yeah. It's nice. Havn't yet decided on a name... the colorscheme vaguely reminds me of Silent Hill.. a light foggy metallic blue of sorts. I think they called it Sea Spray or summat. Not ideal, but not bad either.

Anywho, news in the life of Berreh, or summat. 'til next time!

Well, my mom died.

My mom was taken into the emergency room due to severe stomach pains Monday morning. She had a minor tear in her small intestine that required surgery… and she never recovered from the surgery. Years ago she had developed breast cancer that she fought and beat. They discovered that her cancer had came back towards the end of October, and it wasn’t responding to the chemo this time. It apparently had progressed very rapidly, because according to the doc her abdomen was just full of cancerous growths and they’re what caused the tear in the first place. She passed away in the early AM yesterday.

AniRave '16

It's that time again. Spooktober. What is it? It's a mystery. Skeletons and such, idek. Regardless, AniRave 2016! As usual, 10/31-11/2. Poneh Haus. It'll be pretty low-key this year, 'cuz we broke. We'll be doing the usual binge watching of horror-themed animu and movies, play some 2spooky games, prolly also have a drinking game or two. I acquired a DVD copy of Priness Prolemonade at a yard sale too, so might break open that and see if it's any different from the version we've had ;3 If'n ya' got someone ya' wanna invite, feel free, but tell 'em to bring a bottle and a fiver towards peetzer or summat.

I'm not dead.

Prolly a good idea to update this thing, huh? For those of you that don't follow my tumblr and therefore didn't know, surgery went well. Really well. Far better than expected well. I'm somewhere on the tail-end of the chemo set now, and unless something goes terribly wrong I should be done with this whole treatment mess come November. Then it's just routine monitoring from then on out to spot if it decides to attack again.

So what else has been happening? I set up a webbysite for Pixel Ponies Gaming, the natural evolution of the video game setups that I've been running at various events for ages. TrotCon's coming up soon this year, and things are looking to somehow be better than ever, even with the general mlp fandom shrinking at current. I acquired a vehicle, a dark green 2002 Honda Odyssey. It's EXTREMELY useful for hauling stuff, which is in turn EXTREMELY useful for the various events and cons that I have to lug stuff to. I returned to work at Sears, right up to the maximum limit I'm able to work at the moment, which is.. hardly useful, honestly. Work + disability is *just* enough to cover the bills, with a miniscule amount left over for anything else. Life on hiatus, I guess. Luckily, again, come November that should change and I should be able to find a more-or-less "real" job that will allow me to move forward. Maybe. If I'm lucky. And I'm never lucky. >_>

Beyond that, I've mostly been catching up on some anime, playing around with some older video games, and generally reaffirming my love for retro tech. Sprinkle some creative writing on top and that mostly wraps up what I've been up to.
