Sharing a nugget of mexican culture

Or should I say a "taco" of mexican culture, just to perpetuate the hard earned stereotype we as a country have manage to succesfully project worldwide?

Anyway, I'm at the office right now and was listening to some music when a song, by this awesome group called "Cafe Tacvba" came on. Is a song that always makes me laugh and I though I'd share this because it's highly unusual, being both by the style of music -which was quite on like...some 50 years ago- and the very special, very truthful lyrics which could fit no where else but the beautiful, chaotic Mexico City. Here it is, with a rough translation effort:

Madrugal by Cafe Tacvba

La ciudad de los palacios va dejando paso al alba                               The city of palaces leaves way to the dawn
Se va perdiendo la calma                                                                      The stillness is going away
Para cuando el sol asoma                                                                     By the time the sun peeks out
Todo el esplendor decrece                                                                    All the greatness fades away
La gente las calles toma                                                                        The people the streets take
Catedral desaparece entre smog                                                          Cathedral disappears between smog
Y caca de paloma                                                                                  And pigeon's shit.

Gotta admit I cackled horribly, like a 4 year old child, the first time I listened to that "pigeon's shit" part; so unexpected.

In other news I'm almost one week away from flying to London, Edinburgh and the Dubling and I feel like I've planned nothing, which is quite quite true. Still, the anxiety and happiness is beggining to grow, so I guess that's good.

Cheers!

He looks amazing... If I were to be the owner of a model agency, I'll beg him to work with me...and then perhaps other things
No really, he just looks so damn gorgeous and refined. A proper gentleman
and I think that was the red carpet where his eyes looks like he had bleached or something...either here or venezia.

Hardware series anyone?

Just watching it on youtube, to get the stress of this past exam out of my system; and let me tell you,  it's probably one of the few jobs of Martin Freeman where he actually is a RUDEAHOLIC!

I mean really, the second ep is alright, but the first one! GOD! how he's trying so hard to not be his naturally crappy self! Love love love the final clip with the 'ablackerblack' teenager.
Just watching the third, and then, as Bernard says:  BACK TO REALITY.

I think i may have a problem

I little thing called addiction...on the Internet.

Specifically at the fics, livejournal and now Tumblr. Now I check Tumblr everytime and everywhere I can and that's not as easy as you may thing, as I dont own a laptop or a smartphone.

I do heartily believe that If I wouldn't know about the existance of fanwork -fanarts, fanfics, fanmix and whatever in between- I would be a very productive person . Certainly I'd read lots and lots of books (I still buy them, I just don't read them, just stack and save them for "later" knowing that "later" would be very possibly until next holidays!), do my homework before the bloody deadline FOR ONCE, exercise and maybe even get up to date with some hobbies...

Problem is; I LOVE to read fanfiction and admire fanarts -and very occasionally- doing some myself. So maybe a schedule or some kind of time control is what I'm lacking to make it all work nicely?

Bloody november seems so far away, but leaves enough time to rewatch Sherlock and Misfits!
Also, Frankenstein!!!! ME WANTS! I really really really hope they consider to make and launch a DVD of the play. I don't care how, I'd get it!

School Tomorrow

Soooo...yeah, there's school tomorrow, but my classes begin until 2pm...and it's a pain in the arse really, because afternoon uni? It's a big NO NO from me, and a splash of vomit in it
Seriously, could no one in my University could have the sense to teach us at reasonable hours? How the hell is considered to be anything academic, when you're being lectured at 9pm? UH? Specially by a way who has a really steady calm voice, a big fucking moustache like a sea lion and almost no hair...UH? YOU TELL ME YOU FUCKING SCHOOL SCHEDULES MAKERS!!!

NOW That I let that go (and be ready because I'll probably rant like that a bit this year, it started rocky on every side!) well the good side is that i get to see my mates again, there are some interesting subjects so I hope those will keep me interested. Also, new professors, and I got back together with my boyfriend, so that's always a plus, though I really hope things around us both change. Which reminds me i just saw three movies this last week; unthinkable, unstoppable and hereafter...and i was going to write a super enormous post about  goods and bads and wrongs but i'm just really sleepy today, so all i'm going to do is check the golden glode award winners (sadly i miss the ceremony) check out good clips of RDJ and Gervais and maybe some other good actor i like and admire and i'll be off to bed. Black Books will have to wait until tomorrow as well as my fanart i did for a wonderful fic, because my scanner decided to be a total ass about it and doesnt work anymore. Stupid bunch of plastic.

Anyway to any of you actually reading this I wish you a good productive monday (here is almost 2 am, time to read a little Hesse and go to bed ) and good luck with everything!

CHeers!

PD: Wanna laugh a little? check out Dylan Moran's stand ups over on YT; that guy's my favorite thing of the moment, the only bad things about 'im is that he makes it hard not to crave for a cigarrette and a glass of wine whenever you see black books or his stand ups!

Writer's Block: A real eye opener

Which one book should everyone read, and why?

The Little Prince. El principito. Le petit prince.
Just wonderful. I read it ,the first time anyway, when I was around 6 years old.
I read it again when I was 20. Both times the meaning was completely different and yet the same. Such a great and sometimes underrated book. Definitely a must read

Frightening Days

Very recently, this "Karl" hurricane came into land in a place i live-- very VERY near.

The last hurricane that hitted the coast here was some 50 years ago. My grandmother was telling the tale the other day, when me and most of the family, didn't really thought there was such an inmediate threat. She was relating us what happened then, when she and my grandpa used to live and own a house/farm, built in a high area, some sort of hill, compare with the rest of the land. My great grandfather used to have this vast plot of lands near, where he allowed some people to plant crops.

So when this hurricane came, of course there was a horrible furious wind, it rained quite a bit, lots of trees fell down and  various houses were damaged or shattered. The planting of crops were all knock over. After that, however, it came the worst part. With the amount of water falling down from the mountain range and crashing altogether into the rivers, this bodies of water--well...they overflowed, and so massive amounts of water were coming from everywhere, flooding houses and farms and sweeping everything away. My grandfather and other men who knew how to swim well enough were able to help people out of the water...some farm animals died (specially donkies that ate the putrid corn once the water retired) And since the crops were mature enough, people could catch whatever corn they could see floting around and so for various days they ate food made from that. My grandmother's house and houses constructed in that hill were, in her words, "an impromptu hospital/kitchen/hotel for the a large sum of people there". It was a complete disaster.

NOW, its a complete disaster again, but its involving a lot A LOT LOT LOT  more people (i dont have the exact number right now) because its a city and its surrounding places. And there are rivers and lakes and canals and such...and guess what happens when it rains, and because of the urban sprawl, that has spread so fucking fast and in a totally uncontrolled manner...? IT OVERFLOODS!!! People have died, 12 at least, and there are a lot of missing persons. Water and canned food its dissapearing from convenience stores and malls. There used to be this kind of reserve for crocodiles and it crashed down. Now the animals are on the lose!!! And holly cow, there are people STEALING from overflooded neighborhoods. And because of that, the owners of such places are even more reluctant to leave, so they stay guarding what they can in the roof of their houses.

Now re-reading all of this it seems like a bloody apocaliptic movie, but its all true, I swear.

What's the point of this post? Just to tell you:

**if its in your hands to stop the urban sprawl; DO IT. You're really going to congratulate yourself in the future; and not just you, but your kids and grandsons as well.

**If you can help the people in need from the places i'm describing ( and really, just do a little research and you'll see the zone i'm speaking of) please do it. They really need it!

**If you're buying a house now, or searching round for one, please keep in mind you're really investing in the place, rather that the actual building.

**If by any chance, i seem to have vanished from the face of the earth, then it's possible that the water came into my home. Its a far-fetched scenario, but nothing's impossible i guess.

And I had to face a question that was always hypotetical in my mind; If I needed to get out of my house in 30 seconds, WHAT WOULD I TAKE WITH ME? (apart from my family, my dog and important papers) Then and there I realized that maybe I'm much less of a material person that I'd have thought!

I guess Earth's basically saying "Take away the normal land where my rivers and water run and return to sea, and face the inevitable consequences later"

PD: If anyone read all of the above; regarding the typos and grammar mistakes: I know there must be some in the text ( a lot i suspect) , but i'm really really tired, so i'm just offering an apology.

Hope everyone else is dry and safe, whatever you are. Thank God I'm fine =)

I just saw Sherlock's BBC Pilot.

Spoilers ahead, dont read if you hate them, like i do...

SO! thanks to very very kind and nice people on the forums, i was able to get Sherlock's BBC Pilot and watch it, along with audiocommentaries (which i still dont listen to) and the Making of... that came as an extra in Sherlock's DVD.
AND before i carry on with my thoughts about it ( resuming because its already 2:39 am, and what the hell is wrong with me that i decide to write this right now than to sleep??? oh well...) i just want to make it clear that i have NO way to adquire, at least in this very momment that beautiful DVD, because my country is on restrictions, some shit like that, so i can't order it (that and of course, i don't own a credit card!)  HOWEVER you can rest assured that whenever i get the chance to having it fisically in my hands, i'll go for it, buy it and watch it til the dvd scratches and the DVD Player burns off!

FINALLY getting onto the i liked and i didnt like about this:

I LOVE the fact that Sherlock says outloud that he "understimated Dr Watson!" MY GOD! that was very very cool! And the fact that he shot the cabbie straight to the heart, and so there's no "MORIARTY!" clue to go on!
I REALLY REALLY  like Sherlock's hair style better in this. I know a lot of people like the one that made it to the official recordings, but come oooon he looks really hot like that! Not that he didnt look hot before, or course...
I like that Baker Street apartment before mmm...what else? Martin Freeman's performance changed, he is more...serious and expectant in SIP (Study in Pink) than in the Pilot. And Cumberbatch's acting changed as well, he got more austere with SIP.
I love how John says to Lestrade to...basically fuck off and Sherlock just stands there, quite a bit impressed (look at Benny's face in that scene!) that SOMEONE stood up for him, and for a change Watson is in no debt with him, not like Angelo or Mrs Hudson.

NOW, the i didnt liked, or the I HATE IT!:

I absolutely hated that fucking weird scene where Sherlock looks like a star from a certain stupid vampire story in that rooftop and John just stares at him!; and IMO he could just kick the Edward guy and werewolf guys arses in looks and ATTITUDES ANYDAY.
It was quite dull (compared to Study in Pink) the whole thing at the end; how Holmes knew all along who it was, where he takes Sherlock and plays the game with him. Thank god that they explained to us the real motivations of the cabbie (love is a much more vicious motivator, isnt it???) in SIP because in the Pilot is a much more basic case.

ANYWAY i really really liked the PILOT as well, its very interesting°!!!
