in law school, my mom took me to this stress retreat because my family was vaguely aware i was a suicide risk. and they didnt allow phones, so i brought this huge bag of books. and one of the options for "destressing" was this fake cave grotto thing, where they'd decorated a room to make it look exactly like an underground cave and the air was like -10 degrees, but there was a like 4ft deep pool in the middle that was kept super super hot, so you would just switch between the hot and cold. and they would bring you an endless supply of this weird syrupy drink thing that was like super caffeinated and tasted like sugar and mint. and so i spent multiple days sitting half submerged in this fake grotto drinking mystery liquid and reading. and i have to be honest i really did feel less stressed
“chocolate guy” is currently shilling for harry potter so i better not see yall post his shit anymore. anyone who engages with that shit especially for money is scorched earth as far as i’m concerned.
So since Mark Hamill is the king of voicing amazing evil characters, I have the headcanon that after the Battle of Endor part of Luke’s job for the alliance was making voice calls to various moffs and other ranking imperials pretending to be a recording of the Emperor saying THEY were in charge of the Empire if he died and letting the infighting speed up the imperial collapse.
Luke: Urgh, Leia, do I really have to do this?
Leia: I’m sorry Luke, you’re just too good at sounding evil.
Luke: Fiiiiine. *puts on incredibly evil voice* Hello, Grand Moff…
Han: *whispers* That is just freaky.
Chewie: *nods*
This is the best headcanon I’ve ever heard in my life
Thoughts on the wattpad Ao3 situation?
[Re: facing new censorship restrictions on Wattpad, Wattpad users are fleeing to AO3, where a portion of them appear to be trying to impose censorship restrictions]
As an abuse survivor whose primary connection to the world was the internet, I first learned that what I was experiencing was abuse by finding a fic I was reading had that tagged.
Then, experiencing a morbid mix of fascination and denial and desperation to contextualize my expriences, I then went through about a hundred different pics with that tag until I could say out loud to myself, "These behaviours are abusive. This is abuse. Thousands of other people have agreed it is not normal."
Once I had it in me to suspect, and once I had the language I needed to pinpoint what was wrong, I was able to branch out. Differentiate between emotional abuse and teasing, psychological abuse and nomal behaviour. How my behaviour emulated these things, and why it was unhealthy, and what I should correct in myself to avoid becoming like the people who hurt me.
I wasn't being sexually abused, but if I had been, I imagine this discovery process would have been exactly the same. Accidental, then purposeful, then comparing, researching, validating, and seeking help.
As an individual, there's a lot of shit that icks me the fuck out, that I would find incredibly unpleasant and distressing to read. So I don't read it. And, would you look at that, there's a handy-dandy way for me to see up front which stories or poems or whatever include those things, and I don't have to get blindsided.
People are going to write about whatever they want to write about whether you let them use a website to do it or not, and trying to stop them won't stop them, it'll just be harder to find. And for some of us, that messed up, awful, uncomfortable shit was very important to find.
There's a lot more I can say about censorship. About the implications of coddling the public, stigmatizing real-world experiences, the foot in the door that allows us to spread from one little nasty thing we all agree is bad to everything else from gay sex to cross dressing to boys wearing pink, the obscene to the innocuous.
But.
If I may lower myself to entertain the argument that "Oh, but if you write about these awful things, you must have the heart of an abuser! You must have the heart of a murderer! You must have the heart of a rapist!"
Then I will ask the person who believes this to consider:
Would you rather have a monster who you can't see, or hear, or sense, who is always there, always thinking its monstrous thoughts, making its monstrous plans, out of sight and hidden away until you happen to stumble across it unexpected in the dark?
Or would you rather it stay outside, in a clearly marked enclosure reading "MONSTER! DO NOT ENTER! MONSTER INSIDE!" where you can see it and avoid it, knowing exactly where it is?
Just, you know. My fucked up freak opinion
No, seriously,
y'all are so lucky I decided to just block this motherfucker instead of going off at 4:30 am because people are misusing alt text again
alt text is not the place for paratextual jokes. alt text is not the place for soliloquies and asides and confessions. alt text is not the place for secret tangential conversations between author and reader. alt text is not the place for easter eggs. alt text is not the place for paragraph-long existential rambles that include lines like "did you come to the transcript looking for answers? I don't have any answers" and "I've lost the thread of what's happening in [the image I'm supposed to be describing]."
[plain text: alt text is an accessibility tool. use it like one.]
I'm going to describe a story that debuted in 2011. It's primarily told through the perspective of a teenage girl as she enters into a hidden society of humans with supernatural powers who keep their identities hidden from society at large. She joins up with a small group of these teenaged superhumans early on in the story, one of whom is/becomes her best friend.
While these superhuman powers superficially seem to be solutions to the problems experienced by their recipients, it quickly becomes clear that their lives are almost always worse in some way for having them. Many of the 'good guys' wind up becoming no better than the monsters they fight against on a long enough timescale. Central to the meta-plot is a dark haired character with a power that gives her knowledge of the future, who uses unscrupulous means to try to avert the literal end of the world.
Eventually it's revealed that the superpowers are the product of alien hyper-science, engineered by a race of extraterrestrials that have been present from the story's first act but hiding behind a benevolent facade. The end goal of these aliens is to find a way to beat out the heat death of the universe, and to that end they've been seeding the powers among humans, deliberately giving them to unstable individuals in order to ensure maximum usage.
In the end, the protagonist is forced to break the power system and undergo apotheosis into a goddess, saving the world but at the cost of her humanity and her continued presence in her home dimension, leaving her friends behind.
Did I just describe:
A) The Worm web serial
B) Puella Magi Madoka Magica
The funny part is that the metaphysical aliens of Worm would be interested by the ones in Puella Magi Madoka Magica, while the aliens behind the curtain in PMMM would find the aliens of Worm to be the absolute worst, and might even take up emotions just to hate them.

phallus
this doesn't render on windows unless next to a non-phallus hieroglyph so here is a version for windows users:
Prev: mobile user here! theres fucking nothing here
It's supposed to look like this:
Prev: How did someone make this??
Unicode, the technical standard describing what text symbols exist in computers¹ and how they are encoded², has a block containing Egyptian Hieroglyphs. And since there exists an Egyptian Hieroglyph depicting a penis³, they included it in the standard. And since most computers follow that standard, they can display a penis.
You can check out unicode characters for example here:
1) There do actually exist different standards describing which characters computers should use and how they should be encoded. These days pretty much everyone uses UTF-8 (Unicode Transformation Format) because when exchanging data between computers or programs everyone must use the same encoding to get readable results.
This also means that unicode must (try to) support pretty much everything any human could ever want to write, which means it includes many things like mathematical symbols, special symbols for just about every language, emoji, combining characters that modify other characters, a variety of spaces, box drawing symbols, control characters for eg. text direction, ...
2) Which is actually somewhat complicated. Unicode assigns each symbol a number, but then the text (sequence of symbols) needs to be converted into a sequence of bytes. This is done via the Unicode Transformation Format, which actually results in different characters needing differently many bytes to store.
Also, certain emoji (flags, anything with skin colors or gender, emoji depicting multiple people) are actually multiple characters that get squished into one symbol when rendered.
3) There actually exist three. The above, a version with cloth (𓂹) and one with emission (𓂺).
Also the unicode standard defines words like character, symbol, glyph, ... to have exact meanings, I used the interchangeably here.
this made me have a complete meltdown with delight as I went from "bwahahaha penis sign lol lmao" to "wait if hieroglyphs are unicode there must be an oryx one" and THERE IS!
look at it! 𓃲
𓃲𓃲𓃲𓃲 <- herd!
and the newborn hartebeest!!! 𓃛
frog! horned viper! CREATURES! I'm so happy! I'm gonna be so insufferable with this!
it's kinda crazy. you can use these like more detailed emojis, or even make whole stories without using a single letter. here's an example:
The thing is that sex scenes actually are incredible ways to explore character. People are at their most vulnerable during sex! The way they have sex says a lot of very interesting things about their desires, obviously, but also their psychology, their vulnerabilities, their hopes and fears, etc. It is completely insane to me to think that sex scenes have no value other than to sexually excite the audience. And even if their only value is to sexual excite the audience - SO WHAT?? A movie is supposed to excite and entertain you! Grow up!!!
Okay okay okay so while we're talking about censorship:
When you say something is too evil for words, what you're saying that if you HAVE words, then it isn't really evil.
When I was a kid, people didn't like talking about child abuse. Because child abuse is evil and fucked up and horrific, and extreme, and it destroys people, and ruins your life forever, and the people who abuse children are irredeemable monsters and it's always immediately obvious to see because there is all this visible evidence of it happening.
So when I got a slap, and I was told, "that was nothing. Look, there isn't a bruise, you're fine. This is normal." I believed it.
And when I went to school with greasy hair and clothes that didn't fit, that wasn't a symptom of anything. It wasn't like I had a black eye.
And when I was home alone with the children for hours and hours, that wasn't abuse. That wasn't a bloody nose.
Real abuse was worse. Real abuse was unspeakable. And my life wasn't unspeakable. My life was cooking spaghetti for six and washing the dishes for three hours before I was allowed to go to sleep and wake up and go to school and do it again tomorrow.
When we heighten taboo subjects to this elevated, special kind of evil, it's sort of like moving the goalposts for the people experiencing the harm as well.
I got smacked a bit, and pushed, and spanked, and my hair yanked around, but abuse leaves worse marks.
I was in charge of raising the kids, but parentification means paying the bills.
Neglect means having no food, and we just had small portions.
Absence means running off on a drunken bender, not just locking yourself in an office and leaving your daughter to take care of the baby.
Yall see what I'm getting at?
There's a lot of shitty things we can do to each other, but it's not special, or unspeakable.
Cause my parents weren't unspeakable. They were my parents. They loved me, and they were doing their best.
You feel me?
following weird horny furries who are into shit like pooltoys and transformation and stuff is enrichment. the vitamins and minerals of posting

I must not fall victim to disgust. Disgust is the heart-killer. Disgust is the little-death that brings total apathy. I will face my disgust. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the disgust has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
one of my earliest video game memories was my neighbor from down the street burning me a copy of Roller Coaster Tycoon onto a CD and giving it to me for free, with the caveat that one day a week he would sit behind me and backseat game HARD. like "build this here, okay now build this here, no not there, HERE, okay now make a path here," etc etc. i never minded it at the time, i genuinely had no idea how to play so i thought he was teaching me. years later i learned that him and his family were Orthodox Jewish and him backseat gaming me was his way of getting around the Sabbath ban on playing video games
