Modern Addicts of Rococo Style

Gustafs Skål, the 18th century group I am a member of, produced a calendar for 2013 and both I and my husband were involved. The theme was erotic, but the 18^th century way, with a raised hemline there and a stolen kiss there. 2013 is long since over, so I thought I should show you a few of the pictures. They were all based of period paintings and pictures, but we did not set out to copy the pictures.

The photographer is Staffan Huss, you can find his web page here. All the models were, at the time, members of Gustafs Skål and none of us are professionals. All the clothes and some of the props belonged to us. All the pictures were taken at Kristinehovsmalmgård, an 18^th century manor house in Stockholm.

Wow, it's been a spell since I was last here. As a moderator, I heartily apologize.
I've started rattling about in LJ land over the last few days. Facebook is becoming a maddening mix of political BS and self righteous garbage.  I still like it for promotion, crowd-sourcing and events. But for personal posts and sharing; too often I wish I had the ability to turn off comments like we can here on LJ. And let's face it, LJ is much prettier ;)
Anyway...Let me know if there is anything you need me to change or fix here since I've been away, and keep posting!!!
I too, will do my best to get this old girl up and flying again.

Next year my 18th century society, Gustafs Skål, will turn 20 and we have a lot of fun thing planned to celebrate. One of these things is an erotic calendar- 18th century style. Every age, of course, has depicted naked people and for example Boucher practically wallows in naked flesh. Make a picture search for Boucher and Leda for the most lewd version of that tale I have ever seen. But this calendar of course isn’t meant to be pornographic, there will be no naked breasts, but a lot of wrists and knees- such pieces of anatomy that the 18th century fashion hid and that was considered quite risqué then. Now they are not, but that’s the point- we wanted to make a calendar with pictures that was a naughty then, but not now.

While LJ is being neglected thanks to Blogger and Facebook, there is also Pinterest.

I and katexxxxxx have recently been making sample garments including a couple of rather fine Justaucorps, which we had modelled at an IC Fashion show at Maelstrom LARP.

I had to get a photo, and the light at my dressing table was just right ;-)
We were headed to a showing of my favorite film, Amadeus (director's cut) at a local theater called The Retro Dome here in San Jose, Ca. They had a Mozart 'jam session' before the film started, it was great.



I used to document and share how-to's more often, but lately if I've taken the time to do a "do", I'm rushing out the door to a performance or evening out. I'm going to try to at least get one snapshot from now on.
My gent tried to get one out in the sunlight, but there was too much glare, so I used my phone to take this one indoors.

The nice thing about DW, is that not only is it owned and run by the originators of LJ (and not owned by Russia), it has none of the annoying pop up ads and clicky games that seem to have made their way into LJ land.
Join me there if you like, and you are welcome to copy and paste any of your previous entries here, over there. I wish there was a way to automatically transfer community content from LJ to DW like you can with private journals, but for now we have to copy over older posts manually.

Hey all, I saw this posted on another comm I watch and thought the Marie Antoinette section might be of interest to this comm. I don't know any more than is posted here, but some of you might want to check it out!

National Geographic Casting Call

National Geographic has sent out a request for costumed re-enactors for the following time periods:


18th Century - French aristocracy
19th Century (specifically, late 1890's) Formal ballroom attire
Roman Soldiers

BE SURE TO PASS THIS ALONG TO ANY AND ALL THAT YOU THINK WOULD BE INTERESTED!

Here are the details:

"Party Like" is a 3-part documentary film series recreating the greatest parties in history, airing later this year on the National Geographic Channel. What we are looking for are people with the following period costumes:

1. Ball gowns. Any period ball gown that looks elegant and would work in a scene from the 18th or 19th centuries with couples dancing waltzes or mingling, eating and drinking. Prominent jewelry would be a plus.

2. Men in tails - the way high society male guests would have dressed for a late 19th Century ball. Also waiters in tails, wigs and white gloves.

3. Kings, Queens, Princesses, aristocrats, nobility. We have a whole costume party to shoot where people are dressed as European nobles.

4. Marie Antoinette. We will be casting a Marie Antoinette who will feature prominently so anyone who has the look and dress will be seriously considered for the part. Also anyone who looks like they belong in the 18th Century court of Versailles.

5. Roman soldiers.

We are shooting in Los Angeles at the end of April beginning of May. The big shoot days are April 27th and May 4th, but some extras may be required for multiple days. Pay is TBD but we would pay up to $150 for a specific, named character, less for a generic character. Meals with be provided and you will receive a full National Geographic credit.
