i have a macbook, and am running office 2004 on it. all of the sudden, word no longer works. when i click on the icon it says "you cannot open the application microsoft word because it is not supported on this architecture".
wtf?
does anyone know how to fix this?
coincidentally, this also happened after getting my logic board replaced. they don't seem to be connected, but i don't know.
i called applecare, and they were rude and told me there was nothing they could even do, and then kept questioning whether or not i had applecare, even though i told them i was looking at my warranty online and it went until june 09. boo apple! boo word!
so i went out today, ready to run, and i did. for 18 miles. due to the extreme heat and humidity, and the fact that the marathon ran out of water and gatorade for anyone running slower than a 9min pace (i'm a 12min pace), they shut down the marathon at mile 16, but we ran to grant park, which made it about 18 miles. unfortunately for us, anyone running faster got to finish.
so it was incredibly anticlimatic. luckily, though, i was not one of the many runners who were collapsing on the ground.
one man died.
over 1,000 people were taken to the hostipal.
over 350 people have been hospitalized.
they ran out of ambulances and had to bring in suburban ones.
While the heat alone made it a very difficult race, the lack of WATER and GATORADE along the course created a crisis situation in which runners were faced with dehydration and heat-related illness. The organizers knew for weeks that it was going to be warm, and knew for the last week that it was going to be in the high 80's. There is absolutely no excuse for running out of water/gatorade. All week, marathon officials told marathoners to be well hydrated before the marathon, and advised us to count on them for water and gatorade during the course in order to avoid dehydration.
And, boo. I, along with about 20,000 other people, trained for months for this.
Two days away! Some people have asked for race day info, so here it is:
My bib number is 41900. The race starts at 8am, and I plan to run a 12 min/mile pace, which means I should finish in about 5 hours and 15 minutes. Given that I won't start running until 8:20 or so, I hope to cross the finish line around 1:45 or 2pm.
I will be wearing a white sleeveless shirt, black shorts, and will have my name, "first timer", and Girls in the Game written in black and red marker all over my shirt and arms and legs - so hopefully I will be noticeable! Also - I will be running on the right side with one of my tall co-workers and another friend, both wearing the blue Girls in the Game shirts!
If you plan to be there to watch and cheer - let me know and I'll look for you!
Thanks to all for the kind words and support!
PS - If you could all send strong thoughts and prayers to ensuring that the weather will be 65 and sunny on Sunday, me and 44,999 other runners would love you forever! :)
This is a video of San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, talking about his decision to support and sign a gay marriage bill. He talks about his change of heart, and how he no longer thinks that separate is equal, that civil unions and domestic partnerships are not enough. he gets emotional when he talks about how his daughter, and members of his staff are part of the lgbtq community, and that couldn't look them in the eye and tell them that they are not equal and worthy of the same rights and relationships as he and his wife.
Watching this proud father obviously struggle with his past stance on the issue, and choose the higher road in favor of equality made me cry. More politicians need to show this level of honesty and integrity. I truly hope the media highlight and applaud Mayor Sanders.
I just wrote him a supportive email to let him know that he made the right decision. If you feel similarly, you can email him at jerrysanders at sandiego dot gov.
it's been forever since i've posted (outside of show info). i'm more of an lj lurker these days - reading my friend's page but never posting. in the interest of cutting back on the creepy, i thought i'd post more. ;)
so i'm running the marathon. since june, i've been getting up early every single saturday morning to run ridiculous distances, as well as multiple weekday runs. about a month ago, i started having crazy pain in my foot and ankle, and went to the doctor. after an mri revealed that it wasn't a stress fracture (yay), i was sent to physical therapy to treat my newly developed tendonitis. so now i'm in physical therapy 3 times a week, and i am once again confident that i'll make it to the finish line.
it's so amazing what your body is capable of, and just how far you can test it. last week, i ran 20 miles. 20 MILES! just three years ago i thought that runninng 1 mile was difficult. and while 20 miles is definitely long, it's also doable.
to be perfectly honest, part of me thought i'd never get this far. and now, i'm confident that i will cross that finish line.
and - i've raised almost enough money to send 3 girls to healthy and active programming for an entire year. if you are interested in donating - go to my fundraising page at www.active.com/donate/TEAMGIG/carr….

As you may know, I'm running a marathon this fall on behalf of Girls in the Game - an amazing organization that works to enhance the health and self-esteem of girls through sports, health, leadership and life. In order to raise additional funds for Girls in the Game, we're hosting a benefit show next Saturday!
It costs about $500 for one girls to be involved in programs for a year - so we are hoping to raise enough funds to support 2 girls that night ($1000). We're going to have live music, a raffle, and a silent auction featuring selections from local artists. We'd love to pack the house - so please spread the word!
