Humpf

I tried to start a cool hexagonal afghan from my remaining acrylic yarn stash only to find that while the colors all matched prettily (blues and greens) the yarn weights did not and it would have created a very weird blanket and not in a good way. Back to the drawing board.

Well it has just been forever since I last posted to LJ

I know... 5 years. Livejournal has been overcome by facebook, but I kind of miss journaling. I am gonna try to use this to help me get re-inspired to do crafty things and post them here.

Right now the only really crafty things I have going are: trying to organize and packup all my gear and get it out of the 3rd bedroom so that room can become Aeric's room, and trying to clear out my 'mending' pile. Later down the road I have a couple of blankets that need new binding on the edges.

In the future I would like to do more crochet again, perhaps some tatting and possibly some beginner quilting.

Big Brother gifts?

ok. I need ideas for a gift that the new baby can 'give' to his big brother on his birthday. We are gonna have Ian give a gift to the baby, but that is easy... I considered matching personalized shirts, but that seems like a lame gift for a 5 yr old. Anyone have any ideas?

Update

I think I may be crazy because I volunteered my house for a family Easter pot-luck gathering. At least I am not organizing an egg hunt or any kiddie activities - Ian was already invited to one so I am off the hook there. But why did I think I could get my crazy messy house 'family's coming' clean in 2 weeks while very pregnant? I know 2 weeks ago I thought this would motivate me to get the dining table cleaned off and the Christmas decorations that were still out put away, and the screened in porch cleaned up nicely... but here I am 2 days before and there is still stuff on the table 1/2 of which is Christmas decorations and the porch has not been touched. Sigh. Ian has been exceedingly good about it as we got all the toys cleaned up on Tuesday and he has not yet dragged out a bunch of stuff to play with, which is pretty unbelieveable. On the up side, I know my hubby may swoop in like a tornado and get it all done (he is very good at that) and additionally my family is very forgiving and understanding.

Ch-ch-ch-changes!

So I am gonna start trying to post here a little more again and hopfully not just about parenting stuff, although that is what the majority of my free time is spent on these days. Since I know some people are not as interested in that or find it to be TMI, I will try to put things behind cuts with the topic listed.

This may be a little long as there are several things I want to touch on...

Well, I think that covers about everything for a little bit. I did not touch on work as that is just SSDD.

growing up

So, in the last couple of weeks Ian has been going thru a monster growth spurt. During this time he has pretty much self-weaned- He no longer asks me for side in the morning or in the evening. He is also showing more signs of toilet readiness. He has gotten taller and his words are more enunciated. He seems to be in the process of ditching his afternoon naps. He is also starting to ask the meanings of words a lot and his vocabulary is growing. He has started to show interest in learning how to play games instead of just playing with the pieces. He is also singing a lot and making up his own words to songs (which are understandable - not gibberish). He has started to enjoy reading joke books. He has become a lot less afraid of having his hair washed and figured out how to blow bubbles in the pool. His swimming ability has improved and he has shown interest in starting to get comfortable in deeper water without his swim ring. He loves to draw rainbows. He can throw a ball pretty well and sometimes catches it. He is still ABC, 123 and marble-run obsessed. He still loves shapes. He tells me he wants to have more playdates and craves time playing with other children. He no longer needs my help when playing on a playground with the one exception of needing to be pushed if he is sitting on a swing. He likes to do summersaults on the bed. He has shown interest in having his toys organized and having pictures or words taped onto bins that help him identify the toys that are inside of them and where they go when it is time to clean up. He wants to help with cooking. He learned about and understood the concept of heaven after a recent pet death. He understands that 'tomorrow' does not mean a random time in the future but instead means the day after this one, as well as the concept for 'yesterday'. He knows the days of the week and remembers things that always happen on certain days. He can anticipate the schedule. He understands how to tell time by the hours and is working on understanding minutes. He has become more open to trying new foods. He gives the sweetest hugs and kisses.

My little baby boy has become a full blown preschooler.
