I'm back, I guess?
Dec. 19th, 2018 06:14 pmI don't know if anyone is still here, minus a few new followers and Nat! But it's time to dust off this old journal, try this whole typing out actual entries thing again, and hopefully get back into writing.
As FOR the writing. I'm currently back on my LotR bullshit, so if you like Gondolin elves and are willing to read some Erestor/Ecthelion and Glorfindel/OFC, do I have a treat for you!
As for my other fandoms, well, I'm always working on some HBO War stuff and thanks to some loving people re-reading and commenting on my old Spartacus fic, I'm feeling some nostalgia in that director. You never know what'll happen.
So more writing, taking more time to just write stuff on enjoy, those are the goals for 2019. I say that every year, but hopefully I'll stick to it this time.

That time of year again: CARD TIME
Nov. 16th, 2012 08:59 pmSo, if you're from lj/dw you know the drill: If you'd like a holiday card since from good old North Carolina, drop me a line in the ask/submit/fanmail on tumblr/as a screened comment on lj or a pm on lj/dw/twitter or e-mail your address to rivlee130 at yahoo DOT com. Skew, I think I need a new address from you. Kay, you know you're on the list. Does anyone have Nat's new address? Aspen, Holly, Terribeth, you are all on there too of course! :)
Comments on screened if you want to live an address there.

Just writing all kinds of fic. Even though I haven't updated this journal in a while, the fic comm is getting steady updates. Fic writing is pretty much all Spartacus, all the time, and since I'm working on both a major WIP for the series, and a Big Bang fic, I suspect I'll make a lot more writing rants over here.
In other news:
Things are going pretty well on my side of the world/with the family. General bs related to nursing, medicaid, and funding, but that's the norm.
I already have plans to visit Nashville again in January. Trying to work for a day/weekend off sometime this month to go up to the Mts and see the leaves. Mom's looking into it since we'll need coverage for Carrie. Blue Ridge Parkway is just so damn pretty this time of year.
I started watching Elementary and adore it. I love the dynamic between Sherlock and Joan, very brother-sister, I won't take your b.s. I love the fact that we're seeing more of Holmes as he was in the actual friggin' stories, even if ACD, you know, hated the character that made him famous. And I really love the fact they use a Rube Goldberg Machine for the opening credits. It's perfect. And even though I am not yet in love with the show, I will defend it just for the sake that people are getting all up and arms about the fact it's not a carbon-copy of BBC's Sherlock. (I like that version, but how in the hell it's become the Holy Grail of Adaptations I don't even know.)

A Book List
Aug. 3rd, 2012 06:18 pmA random list of books on Roman History that no one will care about unless there name is Kay.
( Combined list prices for all these books could probably pay off a credit card )

I should probably update this
Jul. 18th, 2012 11:33 pmNot dead, life has just been eaten by work and Spartacus fandom. I've posted some fic at
larks_still_fly and worked on some ridic mixes I'll have to make proper posts for eventually. Currently writing/posting one big fic in Journeys 'verse and a bunch of little ficlets from other things.
-In music I love news:
Recs: The Lumineers and Cold Specks. If you only listen to one of the two, go with Cold Specks. Her music is breathtaking. And if you haven't listened to Empires' Garage Hymns, go do that now. But only after checking out Cold Specks.
Gaslight Anthem's new album, Handwritten comes out on the 24th. I am overly excited about this. I love that band too damn much.
-In tv news:
Behind on everything. That being said, I am actually looking forward to the CW's new show based on The Green Arrow. Other than that, the cable in my room hasn't worked in about a month, so I def. need to fix that before the start of fall tv.
-In movie news:
Finally saw Brave with my mom, sis, and carrie's aide, Serena. It was pretty much Carrie's first time out of the house in a year for something that didn't involve doc appts. She did damn well and LOVED the movie. I also loved the movie and want the soundtrack, like, now.

dusts everything off
Jun. 22nd, 2012 12:36 amI seriously did not mean to leave it this long without posting. Suffice to say since most of Spartacus fandom is on either tumblr/twitter/AO3 I've been over there for a bit. And also drowning myself in all the wonder that is The Losers fic.
Also working on and researching for a few fics, which is why fic writing has been pretty MIA lately. I wish I could say that would pick up, but I have at least one big bang and one psuedo-big-bang in the future. Alas, not doing War Big Bang again this year. With the other fic stuff there's just no room on my personal fandom dance card.
In other news:
Carrie's doing well. We've switched her ENT. New doc doesn't think she needs surgery so that's good news.
Mom however probably does b/c basically she's having issues with her whole back/knee/everything. She pretty much can't go anywhere without her cane these days. So, yeah, don't think I'll be leaving home or CLT anytime soon when I basically have to do most of the house work and the grocery shopping b/c mom just can't anymore. Pretty much high school all over again for me, wherein I'm taking care of Mom and Carrie, but hey, it seems to be the oft-repeated lot in my life.
(Though if one more well-meaning person says, "Oh, Shannon, don't forget to live your own life!" I will scream. There is no one else who will take care of Mom or Carrie. My mom's family couldn't care less and my brother's always working, so it's me by default and choice. I know what I'm willing to regret in my life. Look, stuff gets left undone when I'm away from the house for 4 days. I won't be able to move away for 4 years again.)
I'm getting back into reading fiction books. It's been awhile since I've been in the mood. And by awhile I mean almost two years. I need to catch up on Nightrunner (I'm two books behind) and Dark-Hunter (I'm a few books behind in the main series and a the last two in the Nick series.) Also, really, really need to catch up on The Dresden Files. Hopefully that will be next month. Or August.

And now time for the other pics
Jun. 4th, 2012 03:44 pmAka, these are pics I took of random bits of NC while on the train and some buildings in Raleigh b/c they looked cool. I have a thing for signs painted on old brick buildings, okay?
( Train travelin' )
( Train travelin' )
Just came home from a 10.5 hr shift to the news that my beloved Grandpa is in the hospital. There's really nothing to report now; it's something to do with fluid in his heart. There's some name for the condition but I can't remember; I just know they attempt to treat it through meds and it's not a curable condition.
Just, yeah. Today has not been a good day.

Some things
May. 19th, 2012 12:41 pm- AZ 2012 is days away. So. Very. Excited. Both for the train trip (which I love) and seeing my girls. I never did finish my crash course for more recent anime/manga, so I'll be just as clueless as last year, but hey, I'm there for the company and pretty, pretty cosplays.
-
skew_whiff drew some amazing lovely things for my FFV prompt at
camp_toccoa. All my BoB peeps, esp those who love the Philly Boys, Harry and Kitty, and Lieb and Web MUST go check it out. I'm still sort of in awe over it all.
...and thinking about writng a greaser!au, but hell, no surprise there.
- I'm pretty much admiting to the fact that I'm drifting into the Spartacus tv series fandom. I watched the show on/off before the most recent series, but now I'm all overly invested in the lives of Nasir, Agron, and Naevia. And looking for all the aus in the world where Duro lives. I'm also kind of fangirling over Saxa and Donar. B/c Starz won't let me give them my money for the recent episodes (they only offer them off the network and some comcast xfinity b.s.) I'm having to make do with vid clips and fanvids.
I'm even willing to put aside my historical elitism for the show. Which, considering I was all about the Classics until the last year of my BA says a lot. (It took me AGES to watch Rome and that was even after one of my profs talked about enjoying it despite some of the issues. And he was one of the friggin' heads of the Roman Aqaba Project.)
It's just nice to see a show with multiple PoC, women, and m/m relationships without it all being a very big deal or some kind of "very special episode." So while on the one hand, the show is just a sex and blood fest made on a not-so-high budget (compared to other companies like HBO or Showtime, or even AMC), on the other there are some pretty deep layers.
- Work and mother nature have put me beyond mentally exhausted these past two days. Thursday was worse than most major holidays for me and the closing accountant. I pretty much left the store cursing a blue streak and near in tears. Last night wasn't all that much better, but b/c I'd already pretty much mentally checked out, I got through the last two hours of my shift.
I'm just going to try and relax today and tomorrow b/c it's going to be non-stop for the next two weeks, with the trip to Raleigh and a 10.5 hr work shift coming up.
-This month has been horrible for me writing-wise. Between work and family health issues I can't ever seem to find the time to get relaxed enough to write anything.
-Which, on that note, I'm going to take a nap now. My avg. sleep has been between 5.5-6 hrs (if I'm lucky) and that shit has got to stop.

Things That Happened Today
May. 12th, 2012 11:50 pm- My Fic For Victory was posted. Nat, I hope it brings a smile or two.
- At work some drunk college kid managed to rip a urinal off the wall in our store's public bathroom. He pretty much spent an hour at it b/c a manager asked him to leave the store and refused to sell him beer, b/c, you know, drunk.
I still can't decide if these two events make this day awesome or out of crazy world.
In other news:
Got a surprise .20 cent raise. Which probably means my hours are going to get cut, but still, yay.
Found out when our profit sharing checks will come out. For me, half will go to bills, half will got to AZ. All will make my life MUCH easier.
AZ is two weeks away. SO EXCITED. I'm even all happy about the train ride. Yes, I'm a dork, but who cares. I love trains. And riding through the middle of nowhere NC sees all kinds of rural spots and small towns.

Little Things
May. 9th, 2012 12:36 pm- I'm pretty much turning my Eddie/Andy Journeys 'verse fic into a typical romance novel, but you know what, I don't care. I'm dealng with two mythical creatures who live a long-ass time, being part of old magical royal families, and this shit just happens. NO REGRETS.
- I've already made a list of things to take to AZ. I like making lists. It makes me feel awesome when I get to scracth things off. I still need to decide which bags to take though. And I'm debating about my laptop. Just, two weeks away. Holy shit, how did that happen.
Aspen, Holley, how do we want to do food this year?
- I was up until 4am watching a damn good version of Company on Netflix last night.
- I really need to get my ass to the DMV. I can re-apply for a permit, since I am in no way ready for the driving test yet, but I just really want a valid state id. I still have my passport, but god, I hate not having a valid state id. And having to wait until someone can drive me to the dmv so I can get one. My mother doesn't think this issue is nearly as important as I do. Even if I get it done this week, I'll still only have a temporary one by AZ time.
God, I miss decent mass tranist. I really, really do.

done and done
May. 5th, 2012 12:27 pmJust sent in my FFV. *fingers crossed* that the person I wrote for likes it. I was working with a whole slew of main characters I normally don't write.
That's pretty much where I've been the past month in terms of writing. Minus a couple days devoted to Tolkien fandom and the re-reading of the Silm. I'm now v. happy to be working on the ficlets from the prompt post of, oh, a month ago. So damn good to write TP boys again. I've missed them.
Other than writing, I really need to get some anime watching done. AZ is weeks away and I kind of want to know at least some of the series I will see around the con this year. At this point the only thing I plan on buying is some prints, but you never quite know what you'll stumble across in the dealer's room and artist alley. Last year actually had a ton of really pretty handmade jewelry which I'm always a sucker for.
Which reminds me, need to clean out the house again for a CoinStar run. I do it about once every few months. The most I've "made" so far is $50, but hey, that's a hell of a lot of change to find. I know I have at least $5 in pennies that I found in a metal tin. It's about damn time to get rid of that.
In other news:
Sammie the hammie has a tumor. I thought for a while he was just getting porky for a dwarf hamster, but no, it's pretty damn clear it's a tumor. He's still eating, drinking, and running around in his wheel, so I'm just going to let him live his tiny little hamster life out. I'm sad, of course, but hamsters, much like goldfish, will always break your heart.
We finally have working A/C. I'm just so damn happy. Granted, my allergies are giving me hell, but it's okay b/c I'm not getting sick from the heat in my own house.
Mom axed the surgery for Carrie. The doctor was a jackass, so we're putting it on hold until we can find another ENT.
And that's all for now. I have a rare whole weekend off, so I'm gladly going to enjoy it.
