So I intended to post this on February 1st, but due to an unforeseen last minute change to travel arrangements, I am once again terribly late with it. On the plus side, that means I already have an answer to the big question of whether I would be able to keep up with my daily words whilst away visiting, and I’m pleased to say that I have! But boy, has it been a journey so far.

Week One: As chronicled in my previous post, this week belonged to Airdrop, which saw me off to a flying start with a grand total of 9694 words spread over five fics.

Week Two: This was the hardest week so far. At a bit of a loss without Airdrop to write for, I couldn’t get my brain to settle on anything as I waited for the glut of fic to reveal. After nearly giving up on Thursday, I limped to the end of the week only by dint of the random prompts I coaxed [personal profile] black_bentley to send me. With wordcounts varying from 200 words exactly to a high of 389, I scraped through with a weekly total of just 1727 words.

Week Three: Still no progress on the WIP I’d been hoping to pick up by doing this, but I began to settle into the daily routine. As last week, most of my words found their way onto the page after 10pm, but my word counts were on the rise, and I surpassed 400 words on three separate days to finish the week with 2508.

Week Four: Although not the one I’d intended, I finally managed to pick up a WIP on the final day of Week Three, and it carried me through three out of seven days this week. The big difference this week was that I started writing on paper rather than straight on the laptop. Without a little wordcount ticking up in the bottom corner, it suddenly seemed easier to focus—and because my target number of pages is calculated to confidently surpass 200 words without me needing to count up manually every day, my word counts were higher yet. The other bonus was that typing up Tuesday’s words on Sunday morning turned into scribbling away until that fic was done, and so I finished the week with 3634 words, including over 1k of progress on an old WIP, and one entirely new and complete fic (to appear on AO3 shortly…).

Week Five: Well, with only three days left of January, it was never going to be my highest wordcount of the month. As my main focus this week was getting ready for my trip, I didn’t manage anything higher than 270 words, but every little helps! A shade more progress was made on last week’s WIP, and I also picked up another stagnant WIP to add another 500 words. With 719 words added over the three days, I wrapped up the month with a grand total of 19,314 words produced during January.

So, will I keep it up? Definitely. Even though I haven’t had much to show for the last three weeks in terms of actual posted fic, I’m feeling the benefits of writing a little bit every day. I’ve also progressed from exchange fatigue at the beginning of the month to actually missing exchanges and eyeing up a new one to tide me over until H/C! So if anyone fancies joining me in the mane event, nominations begin in ten days’ time ;-)

Go you! That is a lot of words and I am very glad that the exchange fatigue is waning (I believe for all of us)!

Lots of words! I am very impressed at your determination to keep going with this and it sounds like it’s working for you. Random prompts and writing on paper rather than computer are tricks that work for me too.

And yeah, I think the fandom was collapsed in an exchange-exhausted heap for a while, but for me at least that’s passing off, which is good because So Many WIPs...

Hooray! That's really good, and you're continually writing, which is the main thing. And with you there on the post-Airdrop slump. In fact, I think we all had that, and we've all started coming out of it too, which is excellent.

I'm really looking forward to the H/C exchange, and Smut4Biggles in whatever form it's going to take. And I, for one, will definitely be joining you in the Mane Event! :D

Even if things aren't going as planned, I'm very glad things are still going! Good luck keeping with it. :D

I'll just join in the chorus of people who were definitely having exchange fatigue last month, but it's starting to bounce back in time for h/c-ex ...
