Dive deep into the past through our extensive collection of primary resources, including directories, yearbooks, records, photographs, oral histories, and more. Our research room offers an intimate space for exploration, available Thursday through Saturday from 1 PM to 4 PM by appointment only. Our city of Richmond, since its inception, has become an incredible hub of knowledge. Our collections are a glimpse into that rich past, generously donated by families that have long established roots or from those that were witness to stories in the making.

In addition to our permanent exhibit walking through the first steps of historic Richmond into the burgeoning city that it is today, throughout the year our halls have been adorned with seasonal exhibits in collaboration with creators in art and writing, culture and history experts, and with organizers showcasing stories that have been untold to the public.

Children are naturally very curious, so why not indulge in enriching their learning process through a blast to the past? Bring them along for a guided tour from the indigenous land care and stewardship by the native Ohlone people, the beginnings of small town Richmond, to the industrial boom that occurred during the war effort in the 1940’s.
