Time to move on? Decisions, decisions...

It's been a long while since I've been on here. I spent the past hour going back through some previous posts I had. I think it's always good to see where I've been.

So I have an opportunity to apply for a job in San Antonio, Texas. This job will be for four years, which, coincidentally, would take my time with the US Air Force to two days shy of 20 years, making eligible for retirement and to start receiving a pension. The job starts in October, so I'd have a few months to get my current home squared away and either a) put it on the market or b) put a renter in it.

Now comes my dilemma.... should I apply for the job or not? There stands a good chance that I would get it, and it's pretty much at the top with a lot of responsibility as upper management. As much as I would like to "end up" in San Antonio when my career in the Air Force has come to an end, I would still have 4 years of work available to me unless I get promoted again (I found out last month that I'm getting promoted). And if I do get promoted again, I can stay in even longer.

I think that I have some more overseas travel opportunities coming my way. I'd really like to head back to Europe, or even better, to the Pacific to either Japan, Guam or Hawaii. I just love travelling!

Now, if we go to San Antonio, then I'd have to deal with the headache of doing something with the house. Moving's not really a problem since it's paid for and accomplished by a moving company. Also, the boys would grow up with family in the same city rather than being an airplane flight away.

I have a good feeling that I would be really "taken care of" in the new job. That's not to say that I can preform at my usual level of mediocrity, but that people would do things to really propel me in my career.

So, the job advertisement closes on July 6th.... what to do, what to do....

Oh yeah, and then there's this OTHER thing about work... they need 25 people in my career field to train out at my new rank. The way it works is that there are 2 phases. Phase 1 is for volunteers. And Phase 2, they go and just pick people and put them in a job w/out giving them much of a choice. I wanted to take the opportunity to train into a new job, but I got automatically disqualified for being in too long (I'd have to be in less than 16 years). As of last week, NO ONE had volunteered, and since I'm a new promotee, I'm considered "hot" for retraining. So if they don't get volunteers by the time Phase 2 starts, there stands a good chance when I don't get to choose anything. With San Antonio, at least I would have made the choice.

chibielf says that it's up to me what I want to do.... but is it really? I tried to volunteer for a 12 month job to a island off the coast of South America, but that didn't work out. I really thought I'd be a shoe-in for the job, and I probably would have been until the day it was announced that I'm getting promoted. I think that disqualified me.

Anyway.... back to grad school homework. Oh yeah, I've started graduate school with Florida Tech. I don't know if I could continue this if I move to San Antonio if I have any "in class" classes that I must take. Most of the other classes are online. Ugh.

Note for self - razor blade reviews

I've been using Double Edged razor blades for about 6 months now and bought a variety pack of blades. This is a note for me to make a quick write-up of my impressions on the blades.

Merkur - First blade I tried... can't really remember anything great about them to make them stand out
Wilkinson Sword - Crap blades that you find at a drug store. They felt irritating and I don't think they cut close enough and knicked me good, too.
Dorco ST-501 - South Korean blades. I really liked these and thought that since I'm asian, they must be tailored for asian faces. I'm only 1/2 asian, and I think my scruff may be tougher. Occasional knick.
Lord Super Stainless Steel - I loved, loved, loved these blades from Egypt. Good shave with hardly any knicks.
7am - Super awesome shave this morning from this blade from Bangladesh. The only thing I've read online about them was how they're awesome but don't last long. We will see!

Hello!

Hello, LJ Land! I'm going to post a short story I worked on for school this weekend. I just wanted to put it out there, ya know? It's a bit of World of Warcraft fan fiction about me and chibielf.

Extreme comfort and warmth, and scratchy throat

I just wanted to share with everyone that the flannel lined jeans by LL Bean are worth every single penny. They are super comfy, and keep my legs nice and warm during the blustery and cold English winter.

So we're all still sick in some form in our house. We all have a cough/scratchy throat. Rinny and Anthony have some type of infection which requires extra meds. I just hope that tomorrow, or Friday we are all much, much better :)

Oh yeah, 4 day weekend.. woohooo! :) I think next week is another 3-day work week too. One more thing. Work is very... worky. I'm not going to complain too much about it, but sometimes I think I'm going to have to go with "It's better to ask for forgiveness than permission" when it comes to breaking an upcoming deadline. Come on, it's the holidays! :)
