The food was really good and had many vegan options. Absolutely loved the salt and pepper tofu . The lady who served us was pleasant and nice and was in absolutely no rush which was amazing. The place is a bit small but we enjoyed the food and the visit anyway. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $80–100 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3

Mr Rice is a lovely little spot tucked away in the heart of Newcastle with a cosy, local feel. We were warmly greeted by who seemed to be the owner, and the friendly service made us feel right at home. We ordered the honey chicken, sweet and sour pork with pineapple, fried rice with Chinese sausage and the wontons. The portions were generous and everything was packed with flavour, definitely satisfying our cravings. The honey chicken was crispy and sweet, and the fried rice was fragrant and comforting. Unfortunately, the dishes were a bit too salty, which slightly overpowered the flavours. Overall, a pleasant experience with great service, but the seasoning could be better balanced. Absolutely love this place! The food at Mr. Rice is authentic and full of flavour — the grilled fish was perfectly cooked, spicy and rich, and the spring rolls were crispy and fresh. Every dish tastes just like real Chinese home cooking The atmosphere is cosy and modern, and it’s such a nice place to enjoy a meal with friends. Definitely a hidden gem on Darby Street!
