Thank you so much!
Tia:
I hadn’t thought of looking at brooches! I was really struggling with the tiara and tbh was never quite happy with it, so I’ll be doing that.
Vivi:
I’m really glad you like her! Especially with how Tumblr compression seems to have eaten her braids. They’re box braids with flower bases, inspired by this art (not mine, extremely cute): https://www.tumblr.com/astrohussy/780573793910439936
Amaranthe:
Oooh recurve bows, I don’t know how I didn’t think of that!
The shirt is like that because irises have these smaller petals inside the big petals, and that’s what I was aiming to reference.
You say “her simplicity is her strength” and meanwhile I’ve been looking at her coat like “not puffy enough, I want the iris shape” lol
Summer:
I’m not at all offended because “look how big my boobs are” was exactly what Summer was going for with the tight shirt/boob window/corset combo, and she’s still working out how to look sexy without being tasteless. Goal achieved! Also the boob window is shaped like that because it’s shaped like a sunflower seed, for extra commitment to the theme.
Hilariously, any Mami influence was subconscious. I made her the yellow one arbitrarily and only realized later what I’d done.
Sophie:
Barbie 12 Dancing Princesses reference!! time to go watch it for the millionth time lmao (I had it on DVD as a kid)
(looks up Ferronnière) IS THAT WHAT IT’S CALLED, thank you for this new information, I love these things
Did not know that about the ribbons! Very important to get them right, though, so thanks for that. Magical girling is even more intense than ballet, so she’ll want to protect her ankles all she can.
Sakura:
Sakura is my beloved, the first Flora I came up with, and part of the reason I needed an objective view: I’ve already told all my friends all about her, so they’d have the context to fill in any gaps a first-time reader couldn’t/figure out what I was going for not just based on the outfit.
The top is supposed to be a kimono-style top, not military 😅 and she’s supposed to be the most “classic magical girl” of the bunch. Sailor Moon-inspired, not ballet-inspired.
The “epaulets” are actually the top of her cape and the clips that attach it. If they were epaulets there would not be puffy sleeves, because they’d compete something terrible. The cape gave me fits with the color balancing, until my sister (a Gradient Propagandist of the highest order) chipped in, and it’s very important thematically to her story.
I also really like the stockings! They are a staple of the Flora Cherry Blossom design.
Thank you so much for your thoughts, again! It’s helped me to iron out exactly where I want my artistic vision to go, even the parts I disagree on.
