I miss Jerry Trupiano and his constant spelling of Kason Gabbard's name. =/

Also, for those of us on NESN, RemDawg seems to have whatever Varitek has. Ken Macha will be in the booth with Announcer Boy today.

Boston Red Sox (2-3)  Texas Rangers (2-3)

Curt Schilling (0-1, 11.25)  vs.  Vicente Padilla (0-1, 11.57)

Scouting Report:
Red Sox: The big right-hander had an uncharacteristic lack of command on Opening Day, giving up eight hits and five runs over four innings of a 7-1 loss. It was Schilling's shortest start in a Boston uniform. The Rangers represent a good opportunity for Schilling to bounce back. He is 4-0 with a 3.82 ERA in eight lifetime appearances against Texas. Last year, Schilling was 2-0 against the Rangers with a 3.86 ERA.

Rangers: Padilla makes his first start of the season at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington where he was 8-5 with a 4.80 ERA in 17 starts last year. He was 1-0 with a 2.77 ERA in two starts against the Red Sox last year and is 1-1 with a 5.06 ERA against them in his career. Manny Ramirez is 1-for-8 with four strikeouts in his career against Padilla while J.D. Drew is 6-for-14 with a home run.

Break me off a piece of that OGP!

Boston Red Sox (2-1) BOS @ TEX Texas Rangers (0-3)

Tim Wakefield (0-0, -.--)  vs.  Robinson Tejeda (0-0, -.--)

Scouting Report:
Red Sox: The veteran knuckleballer looks forward to bouncing back after an injury-riddled 2006. This is Wakefield's 13th season with the Red Sox. Wakefield's 1,570 strikeouts with the Red Sox rank him third on the team's all-time list, trailing only Roger Clemens and Pedro Martinez. Wakefield will try to improve his history in Texas, where he is 4-10 lifetime with a 5.95 ERA. Last year against the Rangers, Wakefield was 0-1 with a 7.59 ERA.

Rangers: Tejeda had the lowest ERA of any Rangers starter with at least 14 starts. He was 4-2 with a 2.32 ERA in his last nine starts. He made three starts against the Angels last year and was 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA. He was 5-2 with a 3.10 ERA in nine road starts. He was the Rangers Player of the Month for September, the only time that a pitcher won the award in 2006.

Beckett                    Loe
0-0; -.--                0-0; -.--

I was absolutely disgusted not only the way Bard caught Wakefield, but the way Wakefield composed himself pitching wise through out the game last night.  Bats were also quiet for the Red Sox until late in the game, but a little too late to come up with a rally in the 9th.  However the Red Sox will now put last night behind to give the ball to newly anticipated Red Sox pitcher Josh Beckett.  I personally think he should have pitched last night but whatever.  Only six Red Sox have faced Loe from last year with the minimum 1-2 AB's.  This is the first time Beckett will pitch to Texas in his career, however that doesn't mean some players on the Rangers haven't faced Beckett.  Wilkerson, DeRosa, and Nevin are the three players who have the most AB's but the most hits any of those three have contained from Beckett is 8 lifetime.  Tonight Beckett will try to shut down the Texas offense for a series win.  PLAY BALL!

Scouting Report:
The veteran knuckleballer Wakefield (16-12, 4.15 ERA in 2005) enters his 12th season with the Red Sox. Last year was one of Wakefield's best, as he led the team in wins, innings and strikeouts. The 225 1/3 innings logged by Wakefield last year represented a season-high. He got better as the season wore on, posting an 8-3 record over his final 13 starts. Wakefield has struggled in Texas during his career, going 4-9 with a 5.40 ERA in 14 appearances.

Padilla (9-12, 4.71 ERA in 2005) had a quiet spring but the Rangers liked his progress. Pitching coach Mark Connor worked with him on not being completely reliant on his fastball by using his changeup and breaking ball more. Padilla made one start against the Red Sox last season as a member of the Phillies, allowing eight hits and five runs in 2.2 innings in a 7-1 loss.

Let's go Red Sox!
