Mostly instrumental, but a whole range of things that I discovered around that time and put on repeat.

ARCADE FIRE

I liked them before they were cool. And I'm not just saying that to be a pretentious dick, I picked up their (beautifully produced) EP after hearing them on CBC Radio 2 (probably DNTO or Q) and scribbling down their name. That EP will sound frivolous now, but it was the only music of its kind I had ever heard. I didn't realize they were cool at all until high school. So I guess I was indie before I knew there was such a thing? They basically define the Canadian Indie scene to overseas listeners, from what I've heard, and I think it's really amazing that most of them aren't even from Canada but have come to represent themselves as Canadians. Their lyrics are haunting and every song sounds like it really means something to the people playing it, alternating between grand and epic and quiet and personal. If nothing else, that first album will always remind me of a certain point in my life and certain songs will always bring tears to my eyes. I don't know anybody who doesn't know Arcade Fire, but just in case.

Something filled up my heart with nothing someone told me not to cry.
Now that I'm older my heart's colder and I can't see that it's alive.
Children wake up! Hold your mistake up! Before they turn the summer into dust.
If the children don't grow up our bodies get bigger but our hearts get torn up.
We're just a million little gods causing rain storms turning every good thing to rust.
I guess we'll just have to adjust.
With my lightning bolts a-glowing I can see where I am going
to be when the reaper he touches my hand.
With my lightning bolts a-glowing I can see where I am going.
You better look out below!

Arcade Fire "Us Kids Know" EP (~2003)

Neon Bible (2007)

(I don't know how shitty these files are, I ripped them myself a long time ago so they might have that annoying iTunes lock thing? Let me know.)

THE SOUNDS

middle-finger rock-alternative music; passionate clever lyrics and danceable beats that'll force you to bob your head at the very least and flail around the room at the very most.

I've been listening to these since the summer and haven't gotten tired of them yet. I wouldn't say they'll become a permanent fixture of awesomeness, but they've got flash. It helps that the lead singer, Maja Ivarsson, is really hot. I would say they do suffer a bit from the sophomore slump, but the second album is still very listenable.

1, 2, 3, 4 and I want more
and 5, 6, 7, it's not okay
how come you taste so good?
this time I'm really hurt
it's half past ten
it's getting late
but the night is young
and I can't wait
you know I like it loud
you should know me by now
some thing sweet oh something strong
it seems as though love no longer can turn me on
oh the boy meet girl and girl meet boy
got a nasty habit called rock n roll

Dying to Say This to You (2004)

[NaNoWriMo] 2-4 + notes

NOTES:
Ruth: YOU CAN DO EEET.
America: STFU GO WRITE NANO.

Need to write 4000 words today to get caught up so I'm going to aim for 2000. I've got some reading and an assignment I also need to get done, but I've got 5.5hrs until my next class so now is the time. If I can manage to stay awake. This just in: NaNoWriMo does not give one mystical powers of being able to work on less sleep, only makes it more necessary. The stuff at the beginning of the last part - I'm not sure if I'm going to use it or not.

(NAMES: archangels Raphael, Uriel, Gabrael, Michael. + Iblis
I write in the half-light with the heat cranked up and half-(or all-)undressed, listening to Bassdrive either on headphones or plugged into the speakers. I close my eyes and fall half-asleep and my fingers work on their own. All my best ideas come in the dark.)

On the plus side, you can see how each day I manage more and more words. Yeys. I leave comments open on this one.

INTRO TO RUTH'S NANOWRIMO ATTEMPT: The way I will be writing this is to simply write whatever scenes come to mind and stitch them together afterwards. I'm trying not to edit as I write and I've turned off spellcheck, so this is as rough as it gets. I'm going to post parts as soon as they're finished, so I apologize if I end up flistspamming. Once I've got some spare time I'll be posting some sort of outline of my general idea for where this is going to go, but that requires me actually figuring out what the hell I'm doing. Read or don't, I don't expect anyone to, this is mostly for my own recordkeeping.

Fandom-Organized Icon List

wasting time now so you don't have to later

*** = icon community

some fandoms have only a *** meaning the comm is small enough to make it easy to find the good icons

or they only have a *** and a few iconmakers because I don't follow the fandom and so don't know the good iconmakers

larger fandoms include more listed iconmakers because they're harder to find in the massive comms

iconmakers are in no particular order

this list is primarily made by going through my icon folder, which is about five years old, 103.5 MB, and organized by date modified - "shuffled" if you will.

somecells is my personal icon journal.

my personal icon-hunting method?
search>interests>most common fandom name
click on anything with "icon", "graphics", or "media" in the username or description
click on major fandom comms
check tags/memories for character
open all related entries in tabs
go through tabs and download icons
if icons are good, open iconmaker in tab
search tag/memories of iconmaker for character
open related entries in tabs

MARVEL & MANGA ICONS [92] (Wolverine, NYX, ES21, New Avengers, Mystique & Phoenix)

I like how the Kiden ones came out, but not as much the X-23. Sigh. I honestly don't know what all that random Eyeshield21 is doing in there, yesterday I just had a strange, but powerful, urge for Agon. jfkdlajfdaljl;jfajeifjdkalfjda WHY IS HE SO HOT??? And speaking of hot, I couldn't help that full-body shot of Spider-woman. I don't know where this "fat" thing in canon came into being because she's frickin gorgeous. I guess compared to Mystique she's a little on the heavier side... And I did indulge my Tony/Steve fetish just a bit in #70, but all I did was cut a little space out between them to make it all fit in 100px. :3 Tyger Tiger, I totally need to make more icons of her. Badass, hot, and a Madripoor crime queen, what isn't there to like?? Oh, and the whole pseudo-Wolverine thing is too complicated to explain, just read Marvel Comics Presents #56. I promise he's not a skrull (I damn well hope not!!!).

1-14 NYX (Kiden)
15-21 Wolverine (X-23 Origins, New X-Men, X-Men: The End, Ain't No Dog)
22-35 X-23/Laura
36 Agon (ES21)
37-47 Agon (ES21 fanart - here and I can't find the website any more for the others, if anyone has a link I'll love you forever ;_;)
48-51 Ikyuu, Rui, & Hiruma (ES21 fanart sans link)
52-53 Lady Deathstrike (Messiah Complex)
54-55 Weapon Xs (Messiah Complex)
56-63 Phoenix & Logan/Phoenix (X-Men: The End)
64-71 Spider-man, Captain America, Tony Stark quote, hawt Spider-woman, Tony/Steve, & Spider-man quote (New Avengers)
72-85 Wolverine/Mystique, Mystique, & Wolverine (Wolverine v3)
86-87 Logan (Ain't No Dog X-Force oneshot)
88 Tyger Tiger (Wolverine v1)
89 Pseudo-Wolverine (Marvel Presents)
90-92 Logan (Wolverine v3, X-Men: The End)
