Educational Opportunity!

For those interested in learning more about the history of interpretation of our scriptures, the Cambridge Center for Adult Education is offering a course on just this subject, taught by Temple Bnai Brith's own Jonathan Reich, a.k.a theservant.

The official course description is as follows:
This course will examine the history of interpretation of the Old Testament. We will look at the historical conditions and theological underpinnings of the interpretation of the Bible throughout the ages. Topics will include ways in which the Bible interprets itself, the readings of the early Christian community, classical rabbinic texts, medieval Jewish and Christian texts, and modern historical-critical scholarship. We will examine Biblical texts themselves, different interpretations of those texts, and the motivation and historical context behind them. All readings will be in English and no previous knowledge is assumed.

It starts on March 28th, so sign up now! More information and registration can be found at

Genderbender

Personally, I think Jesus might've done much better as a woman. For one thing he/she would've had a lot more fun converting the masses. Hell, anyone that sincerely believes that Jesus was celibate, as some zealots would have you think, are not being honest with themselves. Travelling all over the place, with a large group of only men....do I really need to paint you a picture?

As a woman, probably could've brought numerous people into the cult that is Christianity of both genders in greater numbers. After all, blondes are said to have more fun...what's religion without a little fun?

You probably shouldn't look at thisCollapse )

For that matter, commenting on this might be bad idea, as you'll be able to see the picture then too. Far be it from me to corrupt unsuspecting innocents...

...although, if you care to risk it, I'd be interested in knowing if you agree that Jesus would have been better in his chosen vocation as a hottie!

Heyas!

Heyas!

Just joined the community. I don't know jack about religion, 'the occult', etc. but I fancy myself an excellent drunken conversationalist so I promise to at least be entertaining.

And serious, of course. *cough*

Hi

Hi
My names Amanda, I am a 22 year old Religious Studies minor and am interested mostly the Asian Religions. I also am trying to find some sort of fulfillment because I feel as a Catholic that as of now it is not right for me. I still want to incorporate Catholic beliefs but do not agree fully with what they stand for right now. I find Buddhism interesting and find their practices understandable.

Self-Intro'

I'd like to introduce myself to the community. (I'm intro'ing myself on many, so please excuse the redundancy if you're on any of the other groups I am.) I'm a 29-year-old Scorpio in Southern California, real into art, guitar, music, the O.T.O., poetry, Thelema and Qabalah. I'm especially interested in the Abramelin Operation, and would love to hear from anyone that's completed it, or otherwise attained K. & C. of the H.G.A. And to anyone with a Palm handheld that's studying Qabalah, I can offer some Palm software I developed to help you out. Take care!
