Hey I'm new to the community, I know this community is about records but I thought I'd naturally put down the names of my phonographs. I've got an Electone High Fidelity 4 Speed (16, 33, 45, 78 [neutral]) I got it from my grandparents who say it was made in the '30s. I've also got a new 2005 Studebaker record player with three speeds (33, 45, 78). I've got a lot of records from my father, sister, mother etc... I love buying new alblums that are available in vinyl, on vinyl. My favorite records are West Side Story soundtrack, Dashboard Confessional Swiss Army Romance, Foreigner: Double Vision, and the Dashboard Confessional Hands Down lp. Vinyl just feels so much more personal and soothing to me, rather than cds. I've barely gotten into the vinyls I have, but I just love vinyls, and I was glad to find this record community.
Have found some very old records. They are all from the 1910's and 1920's. They are in very good condition and I am seeking information on how much they are worth now. If anyone can help me, please reply. Thanks.
I am literally obsessed with records. I go thrifting/shopping for records a few times a week. It is just a passion of mine. I have way too many records to post on here, but I have been keeping record (ha!) of my most recent buys from thrift stores.
Heyas all! I just had to join when I found out there were communities with Vinyl- lovers and collectors here, and from wha I have read in the posts so far, I am sooo glad I am not alone!!!
I have nothing against Cds, but paying an average of $15 for a "digially remastered" album just makes me want to scream and run for the hills. To me, the original albums have a better sound and feel to the music. I am also a fan of music thats pre-90's which is another reason why I prefer vinyl.
Yesterday, I spent 4 hours going through the Turtle Creek Flea Market in Moraine,OH and you can not believe how many vendors you can find selling vinyls, and in excellent condition!
Here's my acquisitions:
Def Leppard: Pyromania Def Leppard: High 'n' Dry - No scratches!!! Led Zepplin: II Led Zepplin: IV - NO SCRATCHES!!! Rush: 2112 Rush: Signals Dio: Last in Line - Album cover water damaged, album itself unscathed! Blue Oyster Cult: Extra-Terestrial Live(my spelling sux) Blue Oyster Cult: Fire of Unknown Origin Genesis: Land of Confusion
All of them was $3 a piece. I noted two of them that had absolutely no scratches. The rest all had the occassional light scratch here and there, but none of them skip a beat!!!
What is even better was that the vendor I talked to knew a lot of where I was coming from in regards to finding albums on vinyl, and he regularly Buys, sells, and trades them and if you have a want list, just write down the albums you want as well as contact info, and if he gets any of the albums on your "want list", he'll set them aside for you! Definatly a rare-breed of dendor indeed.
Anyways, I look foward in enjoying this community. My vinyl collection is small (I own 30 albums), but I am sure that number will triple in the days to come. :)
Hello, my name's Caroline. I've been thinking of getting a record player for a while and just bought two 33s from the 1950s, and I was wondering about playing newer records on old record players and vice versa. Could you play a record from the 1910s on a player made in the past few decades? Could you play a record from the 1950s on a Victrola?
Here's my record collection. I've posted about all of these before, but here's the complete list so far. I got all of them at thrift stores except for the Blondie one (which was given to me by a friend) and the Marilyn Monroe one (which was given to me by one of my mom's co-workers). It's a small collection, but a good one.
I was wondering if I could get your help, I am getting my little sister a record player as a surprise gift for her birthday, and I am clueless as to what to look for?
I have no idea what a record player needs, I am going to purchase one from ebay but I would like advice from as many of you from this community. What does it need? What should I look for? I was looking through ebay and it said something about 45 33 18 16 something like that but I have no idea what they are talking about. As well what do they mean when they talk about 7” and 12” are those the sizes of records? Can both sizes be played on any record player?
I know she has a few records, she has a white stripes record like the one a few entries back, she bought for just collecting but I want to buy her the player to play it on, will any player play it?
Sorry I am so clueless ( I stick to my iPOD :D) but please any help from anyone will be very useful.
