A world where you have a special animal soul companion, you get them at like...age five. Your parents take you for the ceremony. Since they are super magical they can change size so...larger sized animals can shrink so no one has to figure out how to like in an apartment with like...an elephant.

as there seems to be a lot of concern (because this post just went...bananas somehow...) on if one needs a tank for any aquatic soul animals the answer is no. Basically your new companion can in fact just...gain energy from your soul connection. Also the aquatic leaning ones can sort of "swim" through the air like it's water. They are magical-ish. So no worries about tanks or appropriate climates.

One cool part of this feature is however that just as they can maintain themselves in your environment...you can do so in theirs. Where in the ocean your orca can go...you can go. It's magic! Don't worry so much. XD

I remain surprised that with a wheel presently at like....600+ animals so many people keep getting tigers...

Also the range of reactions for some of the dogs and rodents from delight to "meh" 🤭

Find out your companion here *jazz hands*

Do you love them? Do you hate them?

How would your parents react to your new bestie?

as a nonreligious nondrinker, when people mock Mormons specifically for the sodas and stuff and not [gestures to the whole of Mormon history] it kinda pisses me off. like, American alcohol culture really is fucking pervasive. their nonparticipation in it is not a principled take, but y'all really act like it's somehow more progressive to advance that alcohol culture

"oh lol blow up all the dirty soda shops" at least they fucking offer something nonalcoholic. try pointing out literally anything else about the massively abusive organization that owns an entire state government?

as another nonreligious nondrinker: God for real people are so fucking WEIRD about alcohol frankly this is similar also to how people are about sex “Oh what are you a VIRGIN” Bro...what does that have to do with anything

may be a hot take but i think the fact minors can access 18+ content by just clicking a button that says 'yes im totally over 18 trust me' is like. totally fine tbh. its a non-issue. i dont care if curious teenagers are looking at porn. they've been doing that for as long as porn has existed. id rather teens explore their sexuality through images on the internet than rush into real life experiences when they're not ready for it yknow. the UK is trying to put stricter age verification in place (which in turn is becoming an online privacy nightmare) and like. for what. who is it helping. why is this a problem.

People panic about "But what if kids pick up bad ideas from it???"

When I was a kid, Power Rangers got banned at school because we all thought it was incredibly cool and kept trying to kick each other in the head. No-one bothered explaining "Those are trained actors and it's all practiced, they don't *actually* hurt each other, and you're not good at that yet", they just banned it.

So we went to the park after school and read Kim's smuggled copy of the Power Rangers magazine and kicked each other in the head there instead.

(This is a metaphor, but it's also literally true. So much kicking in the head.)

God forbid parents actually talk to their teenagers.

I'm sorry but the majority of teenagers are horny either let them be horny with porn in their rooms alone or let them engage in risky sexual behavior they're teenagers they're SUPPOSED to be pushing boundaries and looking into adult life

Did anyone ever like attempt to document and compile the variations of Barney the dinosaur murder ballads across the elementary school system in the early 2000s. Like legit it has always fascinated me as a phenomena and I would love to know if there were like traceable regional variations or what.

taraxippos

Looking at the tags so far I’m kind of fascinated by how much the ‘I Love You’ parodies vary in their phrasing/murder weapons but the ‘Joy to the World’ ones are nearly identical

here is my collection of barney murder songs as they appeared in the notes and comments of this post at about 4 pm pacific 7/25, somewhat arbitrarily color coded to show similar memes. it appears that "baseball bat and 2x4" is the mode configuration but there is so much variation that that exact phrasing only makes up a small part of the set. if i knew more about statistical modeling i would turn this into some kind of data tree that shows which phrases are most likely to follow other phrases.

"I'm just a girl☺️🥰💖💞💅🌺🌷🦄" when you were eight and the teacher said she needed some strong boys to carry something you used to be furious, and when you convinced them to let you help, you carried twice as many chairs as the boys with the righteous anger of a girl who knew she was just as capable as them. Where did that go?

i have never met an unpsychotic person who knows what it actually means to “not encourage the delusion” …not a single one

starblaster

what “don’t encourage the delusion” means:

  • don’t argue with or challenge the delusion—attempting to disprove someone’s delusions is not helpful at all and will result in that person not trusting you
  • assure the delusional person that they are safe; be open and honest at all times
  • encourage them to verbalize their feelings and offer protection to prevent injury to themselves or, possibly, others
  • start building a trusting relationship with them rather than acting on a desire to control their symptoms
  • do not confirm or feed into the delusion by asking questions about it when the person is not experiencing a psychotic episode

what it does not mean:

  • insisting to a psychotic person experiencing psychosis that what they’re experiencing isn’t real
gayskrillex

I don’t mean to trivialize psychosis by making a weird comparison, but this guide also serves as a handy checklist for helping someone through a bad drug trip. In both cases your number one priority is to get the person through whatever they’re dealing with unharmed.

starblaster

i don’t think it’s trivializing at all, nor a weird comparison—as a psychotic person who has had psychotic episodes inadvertently triggered by drug use and/or worsened while trying to self-medicate with drugs, i think this is an important addition.

an-indecisive-nerd

This is also very similar to what you should do when people with Alzheimer’s have paranoia episodes

rebloggingsince2016

This also works for catastrophizing spirals, which makes me consider in a whole new way how that might be considered a form of delusion.

a lot of people assume psychosis hallucinations are super intense all-consuming horror movie shit like the memes about the hat man or always horrible debilitating things that make you dangerous to be around

but in my experience 95% of my hallucinations are getting spooked by very clearly hearing someone knocking on my door or calling my name from another room or hearing footsteps walking behind me which are "just" my brain recreating the horror of an abusive childhood

i *have* gotten the "bugs crawling all over me" hallucination once or twice though and yeah that one is exactly as terrible horrible as it sounds AUGH

tumblr tags reading "#. i didnt think they could be so simple #i was so sure theyd be different. distinguishable in some way. why did i think that?"ALT

(not trying to put you on blast specifically, you're just a good example to jump off of)

media and pop culture hypes up psychosis a lot as The Worst That Can Happen out of sanism, so even when you try and filter that cultural bias out you still assume it's based on something

when, no, psychosis is actually very simple: it's just hyperactive pattern matching. it's your brain's signal-to-noise ratio being off balance, it's seeing images in random static. it's not always this special uniquely big thing, it's in fact quite mundane a lot of the time.

no one is immune to psychosis, it's not purely the realm of the insane. anyone is one bad night of sleep or one bad case of food poisoning or one bad fever away from being just like me on my worst days.

and this, indeed, is why solidarity with the insane is so important: you, yes you too, are just one bad day from joining us, and no perceptions of being a "temporarily embarrassed sane person" will save you from the oppression of the psychiatric institution.

rebloggingsince2016

Absolutely no shade to the OP of those tags intended, because they clearly realized this, but if hallucinations were distinguishable as what they are in some way, they wouldn’t cause so many problems.

too many people are under the impression that the holocaust is well known because they think it was white on white violence and not because the nazis fucking invented murder factories

pusheenthenerdcat

for clarity's sake i feel the need to point out op doesn't mean "murder factories" metaphorically, the holocaust is notable for the industrialised methods of killing people. like, the nazis strategised about how to kill as cheaply and quickly as possible at scale

queenwille

dude they fucking mastered the art of mass murder to the point that a whole new term needed to be coined for it.

frustratedasatruar

Literally Murder Factories. Literally Industrial Slaughter. They went through multiple design iterations each on multiple possible methods on how to kill such a large number of people spread over such a large area as cheaply and quickly as possible.

Loads of genocides have, like, a specific edition of infantry weapon the soldiers were already being issued, and then they just gave it(mass murder) their best go. The Nazis determined that to be categorically, empirically too slow.

penrosesun

Also, separately, it’s completely fucking comical to me that some people will loudly claim that the Holocaust gets special attention due to being white on white violence… and then when you ask them about an Gorta Mór, or the Holodomor, or the Circassian genocide, or the Cathar genocide, or the Bosnian genocide, or Operation Lentil, or the genocide perpetrated against Bosniaks and Croats by the Chetniks in Yugoslavia, or the Sürgünlik, those same people just blink owlishly at you and say that they “never learned about those things in school”

Um. Hello??? If you never learned about that many white on white genocides in school then. Idk. Maybe the idea that people intrinsically care about all white on white genocides is just, uh. Not correct???

rebloggingsince2016

…Depending on how old the person is, they shouldn’t have even had to learn about the Bosnian genocide in school. I went to school with a kid whose family were refugees from Yugoslavia, and I’m not even 35 yet. That should have been the news.

You’ve heard of “i didn’t say it was good, i said i liked it,” get ready for “i said it had some technical problems & didn’t fully deliver on its themes, not that i didn’t like it”
