long island activist arrested two nights ago

On Monday June 2nd, Jon Grindell, an activist from NY, was surrounded by police officers and federal agents and arrested. When supporters arrived at his arraignment yesterday, they learned that he had been charged with aggravated harassment in the second degree (misdemeanor) as well as trespassing (a violation). In the afternoon, he was arraigned and released without bail.

The charges appear to be related to the Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS) campaign. HLS is a notorious animal testing facility in New Jersey where more than 500 animals are tortured to death every single day for useless products like coffee sweetener and drugs to treat shopaholics. The Animal Defense League of Long Island has been a part of the struggle to shut down HLS for many many years.

On Wednesday, July 16th, Jon will have his first court appearance and we are looking for people to come and support him. We will send out more information as it becomes available, as well as reminders for the court appearance.

Ruined cities, parched fields, shrinking forests, and dying rivers are our archives. Craters left by daisy cutters, our libraries...
