Hello, Seeing Color Exchange Person!

First and most importantly, thank you.

My requests are:

Requests: Daredevil, Inception, HTGAWM )

Other Details )

Basically, I love fan creativity. I like that we as fans can take these things we enjoy and make something new with them instead of being passive consumers. I also find it fascinating to see other people's takes on the same material and characters--where they match up with mine or diverge. This exchange in particular means a lot to me as fandom too often erases characters of color. You rock for doing this, and I'll be happy with whatever you come up with.
Is there a list somewhere of seasonal fanwork exchanges or just ones you like and/or participate in? I know there's Yuletide, but I'm so out of the loop, I have no idea what else is out there.

I had planned to try to do extreme big bang again after having had to drop out last year, but I don't want to bother with EBB after the podfic exclusion decision. What other multifandom big bangs are active these days?

Has anyone made a Winter Soldier vid to A Perfect Circle's "Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums" yet? Because *come on*.

Argh.

I've been meaning to do a few "what I'm into lately" posts since I so rarely post. A big one would have been for Person of Interest, which, until yesterday, was my favorite current show, flaws & all. Now I'm just angry at it.

Reading through my DW reading list for the first time in forever. You guys are amazing. I miss it over here, which means it's probably time to stop missing it and come back.

I'm watching Drumline on cable. I love this movie for a lot of reasons. Interestingly enough, it hits me in the same feels place as Pacific Rim (I am *so* Team Community with a Side of Intergenerational Cooperation). I also love that a major emotional beat in the film involves cassette tapes.
I theoretically love the concept of kink memes, but boy howdee do they reinforce western fandoms' tendency to center white dudes.

Hopefully I can finish this year! Anyone interested in cheerleading for me? I'll be working on my alt rock au and/or a Mal was right/Nolanverse!Batman crossover inspired by this Tumblr post (animated gifs): http://-andrews.tumblr.com/post/28847670655
I have spent an inordinate amount of time over the last two weeks seriously considering writing a Java version of Cupcake Avalanche.
One of my favorite fic ideas was a Veronica Mars/Heathers/Batman crossover. This one doesn't even rate a WIP designation, as I don't think I ever wrote any of it. It came about as a result of [livejournal.com profile] in_a_name and watching Heathers for the first time in forever. It was also inspired by the trailer for a fourth season of VM where she's a rookie FBI agent (that I'm still mad never happened). The In a Name challenge involved writing crossover stories featuring characters from different fandoms who share the same name. I was going to have newbie agent Veronica Mars being mentored by veteran agent Veronica Sawyer (from Heathers--hey, both had seriously fucked up high school experiences & have a lot to hide. It would have been delicious). But the icing on the cake was going to be a case involving the Kane family from Veronica Mars and their distant relative, the late Martha Wayne (née Kane). Can you imagine Veronica Mars meeting Bruce Wayne? He'd ping her Spidey sense so freaking hard.
It's probably not a surprise that I have a bunch of half-written LOCI stories. My favorite of the ones I never finished was an AU based on "Blind Spot". It was a riff on the line in that ep. that Bobby could have gone either way (cop or serial killer). It was also inspired by my annoyance about the way the show dealt with women characters. I decided Jo Gage could have gone either way, too, so in this version, she's a hotshot FBI profiler where Bobby is a mostly off-screen serial killer she's trying to track down. One of the reasons I gave up writing it was finding out about Dexter. Basically, I'd come up with this concept of Bobby as a forensics worker who was a serial killer who killed people he believed had gotten away with murder...before I'd ever heard of Dexter. Instead of saying, "Okay, fusion!" I for some reason just gave up on writing the story *because of finding out about Dexter* (really can't tell you why except for it made sense in my mind at the time). I've since seen the first three seasons of Dexter (I gave up on that show because of the way it treats women--which, granted, is an issue with most cop shows, but Dexter crossed too many lines for me), and the fusion idea would have worked. Also, given the way things ended up going down with Declan Gage, I wish I'd have written it. But I probably won't. I'm pretty sure most of the LOCI fandom wouldn't have been interested in the story back when LOCI fandom was active, and I really doubt many people would read this now. But here's a dump of the notes anyway. Things to keep in mind: There would have been a Jo Gage/Mike Logan romance. Bobby would have been off-screen for most of the story until the end. The main show would have been an interrogation aria between Jo & Bobby (I loved writing those). It would have been called "What Good Men Dream" (a reference from the show).
What Good Men Dream--The Notes )
I was going to write a big, long post about how I usually avoid WIPs for various reasons, but how I've been reading them lately, and my reasons for avoiding them still stand, but I'm kind of enjoying them anyway, uncertainty and all, and I'm thinking about writing one myself, but I'm giving you this run-on sentence instead.

As usual, I have a big, long epic in my brain that I've been working on in snips and bits. I've come to realize that none of these epics will ever see the light of day if I wait until they're done. Because they'll never be done. This one's a crossover of Hanna and Kick-Ass. It was inspired in part by a post I saw somewhere but don't have a link to lamenting how few fandoms with women characters at the center get the massive treatment (our corner of online media) fandom favorites get. The example the writer gave of a fandom she though deserved more fic and other fanworks was Hanna. I totally agree. I also totally had this moment after watching Hanna for the first time where I said to myself, "Someone has to have written some Hit-Girl meets Hanna fic, right? Because their fathers are fucked up in *exactly the same way* and they totally had similar childhoods. Someone else had this same thought, right?" And then I went to look and was disappointed in the way I usually am when I have such thoughts. And then I started working on a grown-up CIA agent Hit-Girl meets Grown-up fugitive Hanna fic, though it's really only an opening scene with Hit-Girl. And then some friends came over and watched Hanna tonight, which has led me to stop dithering and to go ahead and post that opening snippet (below). All of this is to say, that I'm thinking about doing a Hanna, Kick-Ass, Push crossover (realized in the last few days that my story needed Emily Hu from Push to work) and posting it as a WIP even though I seriously doubt anyone's going to read a three rare fandom crossover would-be epic that's as of now just an opening scene. So there you go.

tl;dr blah blah, writing stuff, blah. Here's a snippet.

Dear Yuletide Writer-Type Person:

After a seriously long fandom fallow period, it appears I have signed up as an author for [livejournal.com profile] inception_bang. There will be dreams, but no dreamsharing. There will also be alt rock and angst.

raz0rgirl: goren & eames - criminal intent (loci - goren and eames)
I've been busy to the point of being overwhelmed. I've also been feeling very disconnected from fandom lately. These things together mean that this journal has been admittedly neglected. It will probably stay that way until the last Criminal Intent episodes start airing in May (GOREN & EAMES ARE BACK!!! IT'S LIKE A DO-OVER!!! Also, full circle as I started this journal in the first place because of LOCI).

That said, I've felt an odd need all day to post to say that following Nick Zinner on Twitter has renewed my alt-rock AU Ariadne thoughts. A lot.
