The Icebreaker Challenge: Introduce yourself. Tell us why you're doing the challenge, and what you hope to gain from it.

I also have yet to do a proper introduction post here, so guess I'm doing that now LOL

I'm Raven! Right now, I'm staring at 2026 and wondering how it's been a decade since stumbling into my main fandom, Katekyou Hitman Reborn. I'm predominately a fic writer, but I enjoy trying my hand at various styles of fanworks. Some of which I really love, like fanvidding, and some of which I happily leave to the experts, like Ao3 skin coding <- codes their own website on Neocities but Ao3 workskins break their brain.

My main social media of choice is Tumblr, but one of my goals for this year is to be more active on Pillowfort and give Dreamwidth a proper try. I was too young for LiveJournal, so I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing XD But I like reading, writing, coding, video gaming, own 3 cats, and circle through a long list of fandoms. Those fandoms include, but are not limited to: Katekyou Hitman Reborn, Honkai: Star Rail, Genshin Impact, Star Wars, Star Trek, Vampires SMP, Leverage, XCOM, and Lord of the Rings.

I've been doing the Snowflake Challenge over on Pillowfort for years and find it a nice way to start off the new year! I like reading everyone's posts, reflecting on my own answers, and getting the chance to make new connections. Like always, I'm hoping it helps me get into a posting habit. I'm still very much a lurker at heart, but I'm trying to be more active in general. And the only way to do that is by posting! :D

I do agree with many of the notes saying it's a combination of all of the above, but there's another thing I've observed that I think is also a contributing factor:

People are resistant to changing how they interact with fandom.

And this observation comes predominantly from Reddit where people will bend over backwards to justify why they don't do XYZ, even when offered a solution to a frequently complained about problem. There are a lot of people complaining and venting (rightfully so) about [thing] or even just reminiscing about the past, but comparatively few who actually take steps to change anything.

For example: "No one comments any more" is a frequent complaint. On the Ao3 subreddit, this generates a lot of "you should write for yourself", "Ao3 isn't social media", and a laundry list of reasons why they personally do not comment. And like, yeah all of those are fair responses, but if everyone stays in their lane and refuses to change their commenting habits, then comments will continue to be few and far between.

Or, "I miss kink memes/ship manifestos/personal websites/etc" - You could still do all of that. There are still places doing kink memes, or you could set one up yourself. You can write a ship manifesto, build a personal site, whatever else you miss about Ye Olde Fandom.

But doing any of that requires individual people to choose to change their habits. To choose to leave more comments. To choose to write that ship manifesto or start a new kink meme. To choose to leave their comfort zone and walk blindly into the unknown, potentially on their own.

And I think that's ultimately the crux of the problem right now. All of the things in the poll have happened. There are other things not included in the poll that have also happened. But if we are all so upset about the current situation, then we all need to make a decision:

Do we keep going as is and accept this is the new status quo? Or do we start doing things a little bit differently on an individual level in the hopes that in a few years time, it's better?

Personally? I don't fucking like it here. So I'm putting my money where my mouth is and doing something about it in my own small way

This ship was supposed to be one (1) fic. It was meant to poke fun at myself for the way my Feixiao and Kafka pulls went during the 2.5 patch. I lost both my 50/50s, Feixiao and Himeko came home at exactly 78 pity each, and Kafka showed up literally one patch after Himeko, using one of the three pulls I got from losing the 50/50 and getting a Himeko eidolon. And then I thought about it…

Firstly, their ultimate lines go together so well: Feixiao's "Victory is inevitable!" and Himeko's "Humanity never conceals its desire to control the heavens… And I'm no exception." vs Kafka's "Good times never last" FIGHT!

Like its about fighting fate until it unfolds in your favor vs already preparing yourself for when things inevitably slip through your fingers and also its about the desperation to turn the tide vs the matter-of-factness that the tide will turn one day (or else)

And then I wrote a different fic for them and in responding to the comment I got on it, I said:

They're all such badasses, and each of them are incredibly devoted to their respective path/duty, and they will absolutely choose those duties above each other because that is What Must Be Done but it will also be their absolute last choice every time. And God help you if you cross any of them

As you can see, I am incredibly normal about my pool noodle, and in case anyone is wondering: No I haven't finished that initial fic yet. Instead it's been joined by 7 other WIPs and an additional plotbunny I haven't even started working on

AKA Thing I Think Would Be Funny to Have In-Game, But Would Piss Off A Lot of Gamers

- The ghost should be able to push the pins on the voodoo doll if you're holding it near them
- They should give us a map with a gas stove that the ghost can interact with. Comes with a chance of death by gas or explosion if you leave it on for too long :)
- There should be a really rare chance to spawn in on a map with no ghost and the reporting option for it to be like "Cat" with the heavy implication that all the haunting shit was literally just the homeowners' cat
- Mimic should give all the evidence for the ghost type it's mimicking plus its own evidence (whether that's its own set of three, a random pick from its three evidence to be a fourth evidence, or the random ghost orbs we get already)

Additional, less evil thoughts:
- We should get a backpack as a loadout option
- The fact checking off ghost orbs as acquired evidence auto-eliminates mimic in the journal is evil. I will forget that is an option

hopeswriting asked me on Tumblr if I was maybe feeling some sort of way about Kyoko recently because I had queued up like her entire Kyoko tag to reblog. So I took the opportunity to ramble about my girl for a bit:

Firstly, it is so so so important to me that she's a girly girl. She's the class idol! She wears pink! She likes cake and cute things and pretty dresses! She fits into the gender norms expected of her in a way I never did, and I have worked so hard on learning to love those things for her and other characters like her.

Secondly, she is so incredibly kind to pretty much everyone. Incredibly soft-spoken, mild mannered, almost endlessly cheerful and optimistic and so incredibly naive. The only time we really see her reach for violence (as far as I know/remember) is when Reborn shoots her with the Dying Will Bullet the first time and she immediately marches downstairs to have Words™ with Nana about calling Tsuna "No good". This girl, who literally asked her brother not to fight because she couldn't bear seeing him get hurt, is ready to throw hands over one of her friends being called "No good". Which I think says a lot about her priorities tbh.

“Nothing~” March grins, teetering on her tiptoes as she carefully threads the sprinkle donut over Dan Heng’s horns. She stacks it carefully on top of a glazed donut, then reaches for the small bag of donut holes on the table beside her.

Dan Heng opens his eyes, giving up all pretenses, and splutters, “Are those donuts?!”

Giggling, March sticks a chocolate donut hole on the tip of each horn and snaps a picture of her masterpiece before running out the door. Dan Heng stumbles after her, unbalanced by his donut crown, with a half-growled, “March!”
