About Raven (that's me!)

Helloooo!

Here is a little bit about me. I'm currently in that scary bracket between 35 and 40. Trying not to think about it too much...

I go by all pronouns (She/He/They) depending on the day and brain space. Most of my friends and family stick to They as apparently it isn't always easy for them to guess based on my, as I believe, very cool dress sense!

I am fully on the spicy brain spectrum, so when I think about the fandoms I'm in, I suddenly realise I have a lot of hyperfocus fandoms and ships, but I am super okay with that.

A few of them though are: Supernatural; Marauders, with a touch of Drarry; Helleva Boss and Hazbin Hotel; The Starless Sea; Hunger Games; SJ Maas Universe; Rebecca Yarros Universe. I'm sure I'll add more as I remember them!

I am currently writing fics for Marauders and Destiel. I possibly will write some Drarry in the future, but nothing concrete yet. Keep watching this space.

I love being in these fandoms, but am very aware of the stigma that comes with being anyway connected to the Harry Potter world. To be very, very clear: FUCK "JAKE HAY ROWLING"! I do not endorse her in anyway. Which is why I am more than happy to make every single character in the HP universe queer in some way!

My music taste is extremely varied, but like any good queer human, I love David Bowie, Blondie, Brandi Carlile, Taylor Swift and Amy McDonald, The Last Dinner Party, Wet Leg and Self Esteem. But will listen to pretty much most genres and artists. I'm always on the lookout for recommendations.

I do have an AO3 and I will start posting my micros and long-form stories there. There will be a fix of ratings and warnings, as I do enjoy delving into the more explicit details from time to time. If you fancy it, drop on by and if you feel so inclined, leave some kudos and/or a comment. You can find me at:

I think that's probably enough to ramble on about for now, but the above is gonna change as I find more things to hyperfocus on!

If you wanna drop me a question, or just say hi, feel free. I love interacting with like minded, Tumblr weirdos.

T.W. Brief description of implied self-harm at the very end, no details. For this reason, I have put a line break in before this instalment, as I don't want anyone to see it by accident whilst scrolling. The next couple of posts are going to be intense as Reg will be talking about his childhood abuse, his PTSD and mental health struggles.

Pandora refused to leave Regulus’ side, she kept blaming herself over and over again for him getting lost. No matter how many times Regulus assured her it was okay, she would shake her head and beg for his forgiveness.

“Dora, it’s fine, it wasn’t your fault. I’m the idiot that threw a hissy fit and wandered off into the woods.”

“But you wouldn’t have left if I hadn’t of been such an awful friend. Evan is rightly livid with me and you should be too.” Pandora continued to sob.

Regulus sighed with resignation. “Dora, I’ll speak to Evan, he shouldn’t be mad at you.”

“Come on, babe.” Lily pulled Pandora to her feet before she could speak again. “Let’s leave Regulus to eat and get some rest.”

“Are you sure you’ll be okay?”

“Yes, Dora, I’ll be fine.” Regulus tried to reassure her again, keeping his tone calm and warm.

“Alright.” She leaned down and kissed his head. “You.” She rounded on James, who was just walking in with a steaming bowl on a tray.

“What did I do?” James looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights and it made Regulus and Lily laugh.

“You had better look after him, or I’ll set my brother and his mad boyfriend on you.” Pandora threatened, with as much venom as a kitten, but it was sweet that she tried.

“I would hold my hands up to swear, but I don’t want to drop the tray.” James was trying to hide his smile, but Regulus could see his lips ever so slightly pulling up and he had to hide his own by chewing on his lip. “I promise to look after him, Pan. Dinner and then straight to bed.”

“But,” Regulus interrupted.

“No, no buts. Harry is going back to Lily’s and I’ve already called Minerva to let her know we’ll both be off tomorrow.” James told him matter of factly. “You need your rest and I’m going to ensure that happens.”

“James is right, Reg.” Lily smiled warmly at him.  “You need to rest so you don’t get sick, so take the day.” She squeezed his shoulder like they were old friends and something warm bloomed his chest. Lily let go and leaned out into the hallway. “HARRY!” She bellowed in the direction of the stairs.

Regulus jumped so hard he nearly knocked the tray out of James’ arms. James managed to hold on but the spoon was sent flying to the floor and the soup splashed across the tray, narrowly missing James’ shirt.

“Jesus, Lil!” James put the tray down on the end table and glared at Lily. “You nearly got me scolded with soup!”

“Sorry.” Lily half heartedly apologised as she ducked back into the living room. “But I know what that little toerag is like for not hearing his name.”

They didn’t have to wait long for Harry to slink into the room, a bag over his shoulder. “I’m ready.” He mumbled and then saw Regulus. “Hello, sir. I hope you’re feeling better.” It was said so quietly, it was almost missed.

Everyone froze as Harry addressed Regulus and Regulus blinked in shock a couple of times before responding.

“Um, yes, thank you, Harry. I will be after I’ve had something to eat.” Harry smiled shyly at him and Regulus felt encouraged marginally. “And, you don’t have to call me sir outside of school. You can call me Regulus, or Reg, if you prefer.”

“Oh, erm, thank you.” Harry looked like he had swallowed a bug at the thought of using his teachers first name, but he was at least speaking to him unprompted and Regulus would take the win.

“Right, come on, Harry, let’s get going.” Lily said as she waved bye to both James and Regulus.

“Alright. Bye, dad.”

“See you tomorrow, Haz.” James hugged his son and Harry gave Regulus another shy, half smile.

“Bye, Ss…erm, bye.” Harry went bright red as he scarpered out after his mum.

Pandora pulled him into one last hug and whispered quietly into his ear. “I really am sorry, Reggie.”

Regulus squeezed back just as tightly and whispered too. “I know. Love you.”

“Love you.” Came the whispered reply and then she was gone.

James came back into the room with a fresh spoon and, bringing the tray with him, sat down next to Regulus.

“You still hungry?” James asked with a slightly worried look, as he placed the tray on his lap.

“Me? Never.” Regulus smirked and James laughed. “The soup smells delicious, James, thank you.”

“Don’t need to thank me.” James placed a gentle kiss on his cheek. “I’m going to get the kettle on whilst you eat.”

“And then will you fill me on what happened after I left?”

James sighed heavily. “Yes, love. But you have to promise not to kill Barty and you have to also promise to not let Evan kill me.”

Regulus pretended to consider his options before answering. “I’ll withhold judgement for now.”

James let out a large laugh. “Good enough. Now, eat up.”

James went into the kitchen and Regulus did as he was told. Soup had never tasted so good.

“This is so stupid.” Regulus cursed out loud. It wasn’t like there was anyone around to hear him talking to himself. “Just so fucking stupid.” He smacked the dirt so hard his hand throbbed and that just made him scream again.

The tears were still streaming down his face, but the wracking sobs had finally stopped at least. Which was probably a good thing considering he was in the middle of bloody nowhere and didn’t have any water with him. He took a deep breath and scrubbed his face, forcing himself to cease the ridiculous crying.

He heaved a heavy sigh and pushed himself up off the ground.

“You are a grown adult. You can figure this out.” Regulus chastised himself as he looked up to the sky.

The trees were dense, but it was still clearly light outside, even if he couldn’t actually see the sun. He said a silent prayer to whoever was listening that it stayed light and it didn’t start to rain whilst he found his way out of these infernal woods.

“Right.” He said to the trees. “Logically, all of these routes are going to lead somewhere. You’re in a set of woodlands in sodding Oxfordshire, not a bloody rainforest in South America. Pick a route and take it. Eventually, you’ll either find an exit or your phone will get signal again.” He turned slowly. “Eeny, meany, miney, mo.” Decision made, he picked his bag back up and started walking.

He walked on and on and on and… “AHHHHH!” He screamed and startled a few birds out of their trees, some of them squawked at him as they flew away. “Yeah, well, fuck you too!” He shouted at them.

Regulus was about to start walking again when he heard what sounded like a voice in the distance and he froze.

“Hello?” He called out with some trepidation. Whoever it was sounded like they were running towards him, if the crashing of the brush was anything to do by. “Hello?” He called out again, trying to make himself sound less scared.

“Reg!” Someone shouted his name and he spun towards the sound.

“James?” He shouted back and his heart soared as he watched the gigantic form of his boyfriend come pelting towards.

He was swept of his feet as James reached him and pulled him into his arms.

“Baby, I’ve been so worried!” James breathed into his neck as he held on tight. Regulus squeezed back just as tight.

“How did you find me?” He choked out, desperately trying not to cry again, but he was just so relieved.

“Let’s get you back first and then I’ll bring you up to speed on how scary and awesome your best friends are.” James suggested.

“Alright.” Regulus agreed and James moved them so that he was still holding Regulus tight to his side as they walked off the way James had come.

“James, I’m sorry.” Regulus breathed, as he clung tight to his boyfriend.

“Sweetheart, you don’t have anything to be sorry for. I’m the one who’s sorry and so is Pan.”

“It’s not your fault I can’t take a joke.” Regulus mumbled.

“Hey, no.” James stopped them and held Regulus’ face in his hands and wiped the tears from his face. “You can take a joke when it’s funny. But we should have known better than to turn this situation into a joke. It wasn’t fair on you. I know how stressed you’ve been about getting to know Harry, I should have been more supportive.” James kissed him gently. “Come on, let’s get back, so I can feed you.”

“You trying to fatten me up, Potter.” Regulus joked as he sniffed and his tears finally subsided.

“Too bloody right.” James smirked as he pinched his sides and Regulus actually giggled. “Christ, your laugh is beautiful.” James kissed him again as Regulus felt himself warming under his hands.

“Sap.”

“Damn straight.” James flicked the end of his nose and then they started off again.

Regulus wasn’t sure how long they were walking for before they finally emerged out of the woods, but it was nowhere near as long as Regulus had been wondering by himself. The sun was starting to set by the time they got back to civilisation and James’ waiting car.

James helped Regulus get into the car, even going as far as to try and buckle his seatbelt for him. Regulus gently swatted his hands away and James huffed at not being allowed to help, as he walked round and got into the drivers side.

By the time they got back to the house, it was dark outside, the autumn sun having finally set. As they pulled into the driveway, the front door was flung open and Pandora came running at him as he got out of the car.

“Reggie. Oh my god, I’m so sorry.” Pandora was sobbing her eyes out as she collapsed against him and Regulus hugged her back, not trusting himself to speak in case he cried again.

“Come on, Pan.” James put a hand on both their shoulders and steered them towards the house. “Let him inside first and then you can fuss some more.”

Pandora relinquished her hold and Regulus was finally able to get inside the house and collapse on the sofa, where he could finally relax.

Exception - Jegulus - @jeggyverses-jegulus-microfic - word count: 610

Regulus got to the end of the drive, picked a direction and just started walking, having realised seconds after he left the house that he didn’t have his car here and had no idea what buses, if any, ran this way on a Sunday. He knew he could get his phone out and check, but he didn’t want to stop. He also knew he could call his brother, but he didn’t want to have explain just yet why he had stormed away from James’ house.

His phone started vibrating and he went into autopilot, pulling it from his pocket, he managed to stop himself from answering when he saw James’ name on the screen. He decided to just let it ring out, rather than hanging up, but he shoved his phone into his bag so he could ignore it and carried on walking.

It didn’t take long for the houses to start thinning out, not being a particularly built up area to begin with and for the woods that Regulus knew James lived near, to come into view. Eventually, he hit a dead end where there was a footpath leading into said woods.

Well, fuck.

He now had two options. Walk back the way he had come and risk James or Pandora seeing him and getting him to go back into the house. Or head off into the unknown woods and hope it led him in a general direction of home, or at least somewhere he recognised.

He took his phone from his bag. Six missed calls from James, three from Pandora and numerous texts from both them and the group chat, Barty and Evan trying to find out what was happening.

He shoved the phone back into his bag, squared his shoulders and set off into the woods.

Regulus Black liked to think he was a sensible man. He had two degrees. He had a decently high IQ. He was cautious and liked to plan ahead. He wasn’t often called the fun friend, but he was the reliable one, the reasonable and rational one. Apparently, he had found his one exception, which was clearly, wondering off into unknown areas without a map of any kind when in a foul mood.

The longer he walked, the deeper into the woods he got and the more lost he became.

After what must have been a good hour or so of blindly walking, he finally stopped and looked around him trying to find a signpost, a person, anything that would help, but there was nothing and he could feel his pulse starting to quicken.

Eventually, he came to his senses and reached for his phone, so he could map his way out of wherever the hell he was. The only problem with that plan, was that he had now apparently wondered so far off the beaten track, that he had no signal.

He tried to take in a few calming breaths. He wasn’t lost, he simply just had to turn around and walk back the way he came. He was fine.

Turning on the spot, Regulus realised that he couldn’t make out which of the three routes he could see was the one he had come from. He started to shake.

Goddamnit!

He felt hot tears starting to trickle down his cheeks. If he hadn’t been so damn pig headed and was able to take a joke, he would be enjoying a lovely meal with his beautiful boyfriend instead of being lost in the woods like an idiot.

Regulus dropped to the ground and, not knowing what else to do, pulled his knees up to his chin and began to sob.

Flawless - Jegulus - @jeggyverses-jegulus-microfic - word count: 920

Regulus hadn’t been sat in a room with this much tension since he left his parents house.

Harry had been called down by his mother and was now sitting at the table, refusing to make eye contact with anyone. Regulus was nursing a second cup of coffee, whilst Pandora shot him meaningful looks, that Regulus was vehemently attempting to ignore. Lily and James were talking about their respective weekends and kept trying to draw Harry into conversation, which he was resolutely trying to avoid, by giving one word answers.

“Can I go to my room, now?” Harry mumbled.

“No.” Lily and James both spoke at the same time and Harry huffed dramatically.

“Why not?”

“Because, we’re going to have lunch in a minute and we’re all going to eat together.” Lily said.

“Lunch isn’t even cooking.” Harry pointed out and Regulus had to hide his small grin. Harry reminded him a lot of Sirius at that age. “Can’t I just come back down when it’s ready?”

“Go on then.” James caved with a heavy sigh.

Harry mumbled a thanks and left before anyone could stop him.

“James.” Lily said his name in such a manner that even Regulus felt scolded.

“What?” James looked around at everyone else to see why he was in trouble.

“Don’t look at me.” Regulus chuckled.

“The whole point was to get Harry to stay here and talk to Regulus.”

“I know, Lils. But he was being a miserable sod, so best let him sulk in his room and try again when there’s food to distract him.” James shrugged. “Speaking of.” He clapped his hands and stood up. “Lasagne or pie?” There was a pause as the room all looked at him.

“Oh, me?”

James chuckled. “Yes, love. Do you prefer lasagne or pie?”

“Um, well.” Regulus chewed on his lip, not really wanting to be the decision maker at someone else’s family dinner. “What does Harry like?”

“I told you so.” Pandora sang and Regulus spun to look at her.

“What?”

“Nothing, sweetheart.” James stroked his hair and placed a kiss on his forehead. “Harry is a teenager, he’ll eat whatever I put in front of him.” He was clearly trying to distract him.

“No,” Regulus said as he looked around at the other three. “What is Pandora talking about? James?”

James sighed and fidgeted as he and Pandora stared at each other, having some sort of Mexican standoff, and in the end it was Lily that spoke.

“Oh, for goodness sake.” Lily rolled her eyes. “Pandora bet James that if he asked you what you wanted to eat, that even if you disliked both options, or even had a preference, you would still pick what you thought Harry would like, because you don’t want Harry to dislike you more than you think he does and you would worry that the final straw would be you making him eat something he hated.”

“Lily.” Pandora and Jame both groaned.

Regulus felt his jaw drop slightly and then he felt himself flush with embarrassment. He felt like he was being mocked and before he could stop himself, he was on his feet.

“Well, in that case, don’t worry about me.” He tried not to stomp away, to just leave with some dignity, but he knew he must look like a petulant child and that just made him feel even worse.

He moved as quickly as he could without running up to James’ room to get his bag, ignoring the calls of his so called friend and boyfriend. He did a quick scan of the room to make sure he hadn’t forgotten anything and was swinging the bag over his shoulder to leave, just as James walked in. His usual, flawless complexion was marred with confusion and worry. Regulus couldn’t find it in him to care in that moment.

“Sweetheart, what happened?” He asked as he tried to step into Regulus space.

Regulus bristled at the pet name and felt himself harden against it as he took a step backwards. “Nothing.”

“Reg, talk to me.” James looked so genuinely worried that, for a split second, Regulus almost felt guilty. But then, he wasn’t the one going around making horrible bets about his boyfriend, so it didn’t last.

“Nothing to talk about.”

“Well, that’s clearly not true.” James sighed as he frowned. “We didn’t mean any harm, we were just joking around.” Regulus recoiled at the statement and tried to step around James as he moved further into the room, but James wouldn’t move. “Reg, please.”

“James, just let me go.”

“Not until you talk to me.”

“About what? About how my so called best friend and boyfriend discussed my fear that said boyfriend’s son hates me and instead of being understanding, they took that fear and twisted it into a cruel bet and tricked me into playing along.” Regulus burst out, keeping his voice down so as not to alert Harry to their argument.

James’ face fell. “Reg, I didn’t me-”

“You didn’t mean any harm. That much is obvious. But sadly, James, it does really, bloody hurt.”

Regulus barged past James and stormed down the stairs. Pandora was walking out of the kitchen as he started pulling on his shoes.

“Reggie.” The way she said his name like he was being ridiculous made him even more angry.

He couldn’t bring himself to speak, instead, he ignored her and James as he made his way down the stairs, begging him to stay, opened the front door and left.

Footnote - Jegulus - @jeggyverses-jegulus-microfic - word count: 676

Regulus hoped that this morning would become but a footnote in their love story, but for now, it was the proverbial pachyderm.

No one said a word.

Regulus was grateful he hadn’t dropped his mug. Pandora looked like she was trying very hard not to burst out laughing. Regulus couldn’t quite get a read on Lily, this being their first meeting. And poor Harry looked like he wanted to be anywhere that wasn’t here.

“Morning, sweetheart.” James’ voice rang into the kitchen as the backdoor swung open. James strolled up to him wearing nothing but his running shorts and trainers, with his body glistening with sweat. Under any other circumstances Regulus would be dragging James upstairs to help him shower, but his thoughts were anything but sexy right now. “You alright?” James asked as he planted a sweaty kiss on Regulus’ cheek.

Regulus swallowed against the lump in his throat. “We have company.” He managed to choke out. James looked extremely puzzled as he turned to where Regulus was looking and his eyes widened.

“Oh, hey guys.” He proclaimed a touch too loudly to be casual. “You’re back early.”

“I’m going to my room.” Harry blurted out and ran from the room.

“So,” Lily stepped forward as her son left at lightening speed. “You must be Regulus.” Regulus nodded, not quite trusting his voice. She gave him a gentle smile. “I’m Lily and I believe you already know my partner, Pandora.”

As soon as Lily said her name, Dora bust into an absolute fit of uncontrollable laughter and Regulus scowled at her.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” She panted. “But your faces. I couldn’t have planned this better.” As she spoke, she was already pulling her phone from her pocket.

“Don’t you dare!” Regulus ran to snatch her phone, but she was too fast and dodged out of his way. “Pandora Rosier, I swear to god, you had better put that phone away, right now!”

“Sorry, Reg,” Lily said nonchalantly as she helped herself to coffee. “But whether she texts her brother now or later, whatever happens, Ev and Barty will know by the end of the day.”

“Fuck my life.” Regulus mumbled as he rubbed his forehead. “I’m going to get dressed.” He told the room and stalked off back upstairs. He crept past Harry’s door on the way and safely shut himself away in James’ room.

Regulus started busying himself with finding clean clothes and getting washed up, when he heard the door open and James appeared in the bathroom doorway, leaning against the doorframe.

“Okay, so that could have gone better. But at least we weren’t making out this time.” James joked.

“James,” Regulus sighed. “I think I’m just going to go home.”

“Please don’t.” James stepped into the bathroom and wrapped his arms around Regulus’ waist, pulling him in close. “I mean, if you really want to, I will of course take you home, but I would like you to stay and meet Harry and Lily properly.”

“James, he hates me.”

“He doesn’t know you.” James brushed the hair from Regulus’ eyes. “Please?”

Regulus chewed his lip. “Alright.” James beamed at him. “But no funny business.” He told James firmly.

James gasped in mock offence. “I would never.”

“You absolutely would.” Regulus rolled his eyes as he kissed his partner. “Now, go shower and I’ll wait for you in your room.” James pouted. “That counts as funny business!” Regulus smirked as he shoved his boyfriend. “Now, go on.”

James sighed heavily. “Alright, fine, I’ll just be in here. All alone. By myself.”

“Yup.” Regulus popped the P as he left the bathroom and shut the door behind him. He heard James laugh as the shower turned on.

He picked his phone up and saw a message to the group chat from Pandora. For his sanity, he decided not to check it at that moment. Instead, he put the phone in his pocket and sat on the edge of the bed waiting for James to come out so they could face the music together.

Starman - Jegulus - @jeggyverses-jegulus-microfic - word count: 888

By the time they had finished eating, it was later than Regulus expected and James suggested that they shower and get into bed to watch a film, which Regulus agreed was an excellent idea.

They took turns to shower and as James took his turn, Regulus stayed in the bathroom to brush his teeth and get dressed. There was something extremely domestic about the whole thing and Regulus felt it tugging at the old wound.

His hands trembled as he held onto the sink and took several deep, calming breaths. No, he wouldn’t let himself drop again, not today. Domesticity was not a weakness.

“You alright?”

Regulus hadn’t heard the shower turn off and he jumped slightly at James’ question.

“Yes, sor-” Regulus cut himself off. “I mean, yeah, I’m okay. Just tired.”

“Let’s go to bed.” James kissed him on the forehead and Regulus left him to get dressed.

Regulus crawled into the bed and pulled the duvet up under his chin as he waited for James to join him. He snuck a hand out to snatch the remote from James’ bedside table and instantly put on Netflix. He searched up the show he wanted but paused before he pressed play. What if James wasn’t a documentary man? That wouldn’t be the end of the world and Regulus would find something else to watch, but he shouldn’t assume.

“James?” He called out and his boyfriend stuck his head out of the bathroom door, toothpaste dribbling down his chin. “Oh, that’s attractive.” He snickered and James rolled his eyes.

“Hold on,” James mumbled around the toothbrush and paste swirling around his mouth, dipping back into the bathroom and Regulus chuckled. James reappeared, sans toothpaste, and beamed. “Yes, sweetheart?”

Regulus grinned at him. “Do you mind if I put this nature programme on?” Regulus pointed at the TV with the remote and James followed the movement.

“Oh, yeah, of course! I love anything with David Attenborough. This is actually one of my most rewatched shows.” James looked so genuinely thrilled that any doubt Regulus would have had that he was overcompensating was blown out the window.

“Erm, before you get in.” Regulus snuggled down further and looked up at James with large doe eyes.

James tilted his head and grinned down affectionately. “What do you need, love?”

“I forgot to bring any water up with me.”

“I’ll go grab some, don’t start the show without me.” James pointed at him and Regulus nodded.

As James headed back downstairs to grab Regulus’ water, Regulus propped himself up against the headboard and picked up his phone. He sent his brother a quick message to check in and let him know he was still okay and that he was heading to bed.

“You texting Sirius?” James asked as he appeared back in the bedroom and placed the glass next to Regulus.

“Yeah. After a red event, if I’m not with him, I text him to let him know I’m okay.”

“A red event?” James gave him a quizzical look.

Regulus had explained himself so casually that he hadn’t really realised what he had said until James asked the question.

“Oh, erm, yeah.” Regulus put the glass back down and chewed on his lip. “I don’t really want to get into the details right now but,” Regulus took a deep breath. “My panic attacks are a result of PTSD. Sirius and I came up with a colour system for how bad they were. That way he would know what kind of support I needed. Red is drop everything and that’s what I text him earlier when we were at the park.”

“Thank you for telling me.” James replied as he reached for Regulus’ hand and squeezed it.

Regulus blinked back the tears he could feel welling in his eyes. He had expected James to ask more questions, but he really shouldn’t have been surprised when the incredible man next to him only gave him what he needed. Time and space.

Regulus leaned over and kissed James lightly. “Thank you for being you.”

“I’m not quite sure I know what that means but, you’re welcome?” Regulus chortled at James’ response.

“Okay, I’m gonna press play now and probably pass out in the next ten minutes.”

They got themselves comfortable, wrapped tightly together and Regulus drifted off to sleep to the dulcet tones of David Attenborough and the steady rise and fall of his boyfriends breathing.

The next morning, Regulus woke up feeling fresher than he normally would the day after a red episode. As he laid in bed he realised he couldn’t see or hear James, but realising it was almost 10 am, he decided he should probably get up and go in search of him.

As Regulus walked downstairs, he heard Starman blaring from the kitchen and figured that James must be making breakfast. When he walked into the kitchen, however, James was not there, but there was coffee and Regulus eagerly poured himself a cup.

As Regulus danced around the kitchen, enjoying his excellent mood and the great playlist, he heard the front door open. He spun around to greet his early riser boyfriend, but instead of James standing in the doorway watching him dance to Bowie in his underwear, it was James’ son, his ex-wife and Regulus’ best friend.

Well, fuck.

Ceiling - Jegulus - @jeggyverses-jegulus-microfic - word count: 938

What felt like hours later, Regulus was lying down on the sofa, rewrapped in the blanket, with his head in Sirius’ lap and staring up at the ceiling of James’ living room. He had cried himself out and he was finally past the worst of this particular episode.

Sirius, Remus and James were talking quietly around him, but Regulus couldn’t make out what they were talking about.

“Hey.” Regulus blinked when he realised Sirius was talking to him. “Colour?”

“Green,” Regulus answered honestly, his voice wracked with exhaustion.

“Do you feel up to moving yet?”

Regulus nodded and Sirius helped him untangle the blanket and sit up. He looked around the living room, searching for James, but his boyfriend wasn’t there.

“Where’s James?” The question cracked on his vocal cords and he coughed a few times.

“I’m here, love.” Regulus turned his head as James came round the sofa and handed him a mug. “Hot lemon, with some of mum and dads honey.”

Regulus held his free hand out to James, who took it instantly and Regulus tugged him down to sit with him as he drank the warm beverage.

As soon as James sat down, Regulus shuffled so that he was leaning against him. James turned his body slightly so that Regulus could lean his back to James’ chest and his boyfriend wrapped his arms around his middle and kissed the top of his head.

Regulus pulled his legs up on to the sofa and Sirius held one of his ankles. If he could find a way of bringing Remus into the mix, he would be even happier. He looked over at his brother-in-law who was shotting him a look that said, I’m not sitting on the floor. Regulus smiled sadly at Remus, who rolled his eyes, but still got up and shuffled over.

“Switch,” Remus told Sirius. “If I get on the floor, I’ll never get back up.”

Sirius huffed at his husband but moved anyway. As Sirius slid to the floor, Remus took his spot on the sofa and held on to one of Regulus’ ankles, Sirius taking the other.

Regulus sucked in a deep breath, his lungs expanding fully for what felt like the first time in forever.

With his people holding onto him, his nervous system felt like it was coming back online, add in the delicious drink James had made him and he slowly, started feeling human again.

“Thank you.” Regulus said to the room and all three men hushed him at the same time, telling him it was nothing and he didn’t need to thank anybody. “I know, but still, thank you.” Each of them squeezed the body part they were holding on to and Regulus was overcome with a wave of love.

After allowing himself to enjoy the feeling until his cup was empty, Regulus nodded and both Sirius and Remus let go, James seemed a little bit more reluctant, but this was the first time he had witnessed Regulus in this state. Regulus wriggled and James loosened his grip a little so that Regulus could spin to look at him.

“I’m okay now, I promise.”

“Are you sure?” The look in James’ eyes was not pity, but it was deep concern.

Regulus nodded and leaned in to kiss him softly. “I’m sure.”

“Alright.” James hesitantly let go and Regulus sat up straighter.

“So, Reggie, what do you wanna do?” Sirius asked from his spot on the floor, where he was now leaning back on his hands.

Regulus bit his lower lip as he looked between his brother and his boyfriend.

“Reg, if you want to go home with your brother, then I went you to go with him. You do what ever you need to, okay?” James stroked his arm.

“And if you want to stay with James, we don’t mind either.” Sirius added.

“Okay. Erm, I do want to stay here. Is that okay?” Regulus asked nervously.

“Of course it is, sweetheart.” James assured him.

“I’m sor-” Regulus began, but Remus was the one to cut him off this time.

“You don’t need to apologise, Reg, you know that. You needed us, we came, we’ll always come. But if you feel better now and are happy to stay with James, then it’s okay.”

“Okay.” Regulus smiled at his brother-in-law.

“Right then,” Remus smacked his thighs and pushed himself up off the sofa. “Sirius, let’s head home, I need to go to Tesco to get bits for dinner.”

“Woohoo!” His brother cheered as he leapt nimbly to his feet.

“I’ve never known anyone but you to get excited by food shopping.” Regulus joked.

“If he behaves himself he’s allowed to pick out a treat.” Remus told them dryly and both James and Regulus laughed.

“Hey!” Sirius protested with his hands on his hips. “Don’t mock my reward system.”

“I would never!” Regulus proclaimed dramatically with his hand on his chest.

James and Regulus got up as Remus and Sirius headed towards the front door. Regulus grabbed Sirius’ arm and pulled him back into a tight hug.

“Thank you for coming for me.”

“I always will, bug.”

The two brothers held on tightly to each other for a minute before Regulus pulled away.

“Let us know when you’re home tomorrow and if you want to come stay at ours.”

“I will.”

Sirius hugged him tightly again and then followed his husband out of the door.

James shut the door behind them and turned to Regulus.

“Hungry?”

Regulus sighed. “Yeah.”

James wrapped an arm around Regulus’ waist and the two men headed to the kitchen in search of their earlier barbeque.

T.W. Description of severe panic attack

Regulus went to grab them a bench that had just opened up and left James to wait for their food. He sat at one of the picnic tables so that he could see James, but was far enough away that he couldn’t hear his conversation. Regulus liked to observe people and watching James interact with people was quickly becoming one of his favourite things to do.

There was an real ease between James and Peter that Regulus didn’t know if he had with any of this friends. Even Pandora. Maybe it had to do with how they had all become friends. Regulus, Barty, Evan and Pandora had all become friends due to their shared trauma. Regulus was still learning about James, but he already knew that he had had a better upbringing than Regulus and his band of misfits.

Maybe this was what life looked like when you were raised by loving parents, instead of being scared to death what mood your parents were going to be in every hour of your life. When you knew that your parents would protect you and keep you safe, rather than being the cause of your deepest fears.

Regulus’ chest suddenly felt very tight and there was sweat breaking out on his forehead. His palms started itching and his breath was coming out in ragged waves.

He turned around in his seat so James couldn’t see his building panic attack and he pulled his phone out and opened his text chat with Sirius.

You: Red

His phone rang almost instantly. Sirius spoke as soon as Regulus picked up the phone.

“Where are you?”

“At the park with James.” Regulus’ voice shook and was so quiet, he wondered how Sirius would even hear him.

“Is he with you?”

“He’s waiting for our food. Siri,” Regulus whimpered. He was breaking, he could feel himself starting to crack.

“Alright, it’s okay. You’re safe. They’re not here. Breathe for me, Reggie.” Sirius’ voice was calm and steady. He was exaggerating his own breaths so Regulus could hear them and they breathed deeply together.

“You’re doing so well, little bug.”

“Reg?” James sat down slowly next to him, his voice laced with concern. “Sweetheart, what happened?”

Regulus couldn’t answer, he was too busy trying to breathe and listen to his brother talking to him.

“Reggie, can you pass the phone to James? Is that okay?”

“Yes.”

“I’m going to let him know what’s happening and then get him to hand the phone back, alright?”

“Okay.” Regulus’ hand trembled as he handed his phone to James, who took it without needing to be asked.

“Hello?”

Regulus couldn’t hear what Sirius was saying, but he leaned into James and the other man instantly wrapped his arm around Regulus’ shoulder and held him tightly. Regulus gripped onto James top and continued trying to breathe normally, but he could feel his tears soaking into James’ t-shirt.

“Yeah, of course…Not for a second, Sirius, I promise…yeah, yeah, okay.” James held the phone down to Regulus. “Sweetheart?”

Regulus took the phone back. “Hi.” His voice still shook, but it wasn’t as bad anymore.

“Colour?

“Yellow.”

“James is going to take you back to his house. Do you want me to come?”

“I don’t want to bother you.”

“You are not a bother. Do you want me to come get you?”

“Yes, please.”

“Alright. James is sending me his address. We’ll be twenty minutes, alright.”

“Alright.”

“I love you.”

“I love you.”

Regulus hung up the phone and James took it from him when he struggled to put it back in his pocket.

“Come on, love. Let’s get you back home.” James stood and took Regulus with him, keeping him wrapped tightly in his arm.

“I’m sorry,” Regulus muttered, as tears still silently streamed down his face.

“Hey now, none of that, you don’t have to apologise for anything.”

“But the food-”

“Is coming with us and will keep.” James cut him off and Regulus noticed the paper bag in his other hand.

He held on tightly to James as they walked back to James’ house and Regulus was suddenly very grateful just how close James lived to the park.

They were back in no time and James took Regulus into the living room. He got him situated on the sofa so that Regulus could lie down and James wrapped him tightly in a blanket. He sat on the floor and lightly brushed his fingers through Regulus’ hair. He didn’t ask him any questions, he just sat there with him, a constant, calming presence, who wiped his tears as they fell. Regulus would never know what he did to deserve a man this kind.

When the doorbell rang, James kissed him on the forehead and stood up to go and answer it. Within seconds of James leaving him, Sirius was flying into the room.

Regulus sat up and flung his arms out and Sirius held him instantly.

“I’m here, bug, I’m here.”

“I’ll go put the kettle on.” Regulus heard James say, as he continued to sob into the warmth of his big brother.

Regulus startled himself awake and looked around groggily. “Whasit?” He mumbled and heard a soft laugh from behind him. He forced his body to roll onto his back and let his limbs stretch out under the super soft duvet.

“Hey, baby.” A gentle voice breathed next to him and fingers brushed through his hair.

Regulus looked to his left and smiled as James smiled warmly back at him. “Hi.” Regulus breathed out.

“Enjoy your nap?” James’ fingers continued to gently brush through Regulus’ hair. There was no heat to it, just a gentle, calming motion and Regulus leaned into it.

“Sorry, didn’t meant to doze off.”

“You don’t have to apologise, love. You clearly needed it.”

Regulus hummed as he shuffled forward and buried his face in James’ neck as he tangled an arm and leg over James’ body. “Your bed is far too comfy.”

James huffed another low laugh, his arms snaking around Regulus. “Yeah, it is pretty good.”

They laid there in silence for a little while longer. Breathing slowly together and enjoying the moment. Their peace was rudely disrupted by Regulus’ rumbling stomach, which caused both men to burst out laughing.

“Time to get you fed, I reckon.” James said as he rolled off the bed and Regulus had one last, long stretch, accidentally letting out a moan as he did so. James breathed out heavily as he turned back to look at Regulus. “Oh, that noise is unfair.”

Regulus had a split second to realise what was about to happen and he squealed as James launched himself back onto the bed and on top of Regulus.

“James!” Regulus huffed out as the full weight of his six foot two boyfriend started wriggling around on top of him. “You’re gonna squish me to death!”

“Noooo,” James dragged out as he slid his arms under Regulus’ back and rolled them, so Regulus was then lying on top of James. “Better?”

“Well, at least I’m not having issues breathing now.” Regulus chuckled as he pushed himself upright. His thighs straddling James’ hips. “You’re a menace, you know that?” He teased.

James sat up and wrapped Regulus up in his arms. “I know. But I think you find it charming. You called me darling, remember.”

Regulus pushed against James’ chest so he tumbled backwards and burst out laughing.

“I’m hungry.” Regulus announced as he jumped off James. “I want a barbeque steak sandwich and dirty fries.”

James continued laughing as he pulled himself off the bed too. “Alright, alright. Let’s go.”

Both men freshened up a little, washing away the evidence of their nap and headed out of the house. As they started walking down the drive, James reached out and took Regulus’ hand. The sensation of his warm hand in Regulus’ took him by surprise. He let his fingers curl into James’ and let the feeling of safety wash over him.

They walked down the street in a comfortable silence and Regulus couldn’t help the smile plastered across his face.

The walk wasn’t far and Regulus could smell the beautiful aroma of barbeque as they approached the park.

“God, it smells so good.” Regulus commented.

“Doesn’t it just. I think I could live off of barbeque, if I needed to.” James replied and Regulus nodded enthusiastically in agreement.

“James!” Peter called out to them as they made their way up to his van. “Alright, mate?”

“Yeah, Pete. How’s business?”

“Turns out, this was a bangin’ idea. Park people love meat.” Peter joked and Regulus let out a small chuckle.

“Jesus, mate, you can’t call them park people.” James looked around mortified.

“Why not? They’re people and they’re in the park.” Peter smirked and gave Regulus a cheeky wink. “Regulus, right?”

“Yeah, hi.” Regulus gave a small wave.

“Good to see you again.” Peter gave James a passing look that Regulus couldn’t interpret, but from the blush rushing up James’ face, Regulus assumed it was something to do with him and, being the magnanimous human he was, he decided to save James and brush past it.

“What’s good?” Regulus asked, as he squeezed James’ hand and stepped forward.

Peter clutched his hand to his chest. “Mr. Black, how dare you assume that anything I have here is not good. Everything I make is excellent.” Peter bragged.

“Didn’t you say you wanted steak?” James nudged.

“Yes. Yes, I did. Peter, I would like you finest steak sandwich and the dirtiest fries you can make.”

“Now that, I can do.”

Street - Jegulus - @jeggyverses-jegulus-microfic - word count: 783

Hours later, suitably exhausted from the perfect mix of sunshine and sea swimming, Regulus was helping James pack the car back up.

“You don’t mind leaving now, do you?” Regulus asked, worried that he was rushing James away from the beach, but it had started to get very busy and Regulus was finding it harder to relax and enjoy himself.

“Of course not,” James said with a genuine smile. “That’s why I like to get here so early. You get a great day at the beach in and can leave when it starts to get insanely busy with the late comers.”

Regulus chewed his lip as he followed James back through the dunes to the car. This man was truly perfect. Not for the first time, Regulus questioned what it was that James saw in him, but he also thanked his lucky stars the beautiful man did like him.

Once the car was packed and they were on their way back to James’ place, Regulus noticed that James appeared to be agitated.

“James?” He said softly.

“Yes?” James responded just a touch too loud, as if Regulus had startled him.

“Um, is everything alright?”

“Yeah, course.” James was suddenly drumming his hands on the steering wheel and Regulus was sure that if he hadn’t been driving, James’ knee would have been bouncing up and down.

“Then why do you seem like you’re on edge?”

“Oh,” James’ hands stilled. “Yeah. I’m alright, just, erm.”

Regulus was starting to find Nervous James endearing. “Spit it out, James.” He encouraged gently.

“Do you want to stay over again?” James blurted out his request so fast, Regulus almost didn’t catch the question.

“Alright.” Regulus answered before he could stop himself.

“Oh, okay, cool.” James was tapping the steering wheel again and Regulus smirked.

“James?”

“I want to take you out.”

“Like with a gun, or…?” Regulus teased and James smacked his knee, causing both men to laugh. “So, where are you taking me?”

“You remember my friend Pete?”

“The barbeque king?”

“Yeah. He’s doing a pop up thing at the park on my street this evening and I thought we could go. Have some great food and help support a friend.”

“Yeah, that actually sounds really great. Might be nice to enjoy it without watching Remus look like a hungry wolf gnawing on ribs.” Regulus joked.

“What a charming image of my new friend.” James chuckled.

The rest of the journey back was spent swapping more stories from their pasts and singing along, mostly James, to songs on James’ very eclectic playlist.

As they pulled up back at James’ house and started unpacking the car, James begun the nervous fidgeting once again.

“James, you’re doing it again.” Regulus chastised as he pulled bags from the car.

“I just want to double check that you’re okay going out in public…with me.”

“Wait? With you? Oh, I misunderstood. In that case, no thank you.” James’ face fell and Regulus shook his head. “Sarcasm, darling, sarcasm.”

He started to head towards the front door when James called out after him. “Wait!” Regulus turned around. “Did you just call me darling?”

Regulus froze. Shit. Had he called him darling? Regulus wasn’t a fan of pet names. He genuinely couldn’t remember the last time he’d ever used one. The only thing that came close was when he called his brother Siri. Think, think, think.

“Don’t make a big deal out of it. It’s nothing.” He tried to brush James off, but he had to stop at the door when he realised it wouldn’t be open.

James came up behind him and pushed up against him as he leaned forward to unlock the door. Catching the bottom of Regulus’ ear as he leaned in.

“I think it’s sweet.”

“I’ll go home.” Regulus muttered, as he tried not to be affected by the proximity of James’ body.

“No, no, stay.” James whined into his ear as he wrapped one of his arms around Regulus’ waist and opened the door.

“Eugh, fine.” Regulus conceded with fake annoyance.

“Yay!” James cheered as he ushered Regulus into the house, his hand still around Regulus’ middle “So, you wanna fool around before dinner?” James asked as his hand slipped to Regulus’ waistband.

Regulus spun around so he was facing his ridiculous boyfriend. “Let’s get the car unpacked first.” James pouted and Regulus crooked his fingers into James’ belt loops. “If you get the car unpacked and everything put away, I’ll get a bottle of wine opened and wait for you in your bedroom.”

Regulus laughed hard as James ran back to the car so fast, if he’d been a cartoon, smoke would have been coming off his feet.

Afterglow - Jegulus - @jeggyverses-jegulus-microfic - word count: 689

“Time to get in the water, sweetheart.” James held his hands out in front of him and Regulus felt himself recoiling.

Regulus had been basking in the afterglow of a post-suncream-application, heavy petting session and he knew that James was taking advantage of that.

“Why don’t you go in and I’ll just wait here?” Regulus suggested. “Where I can,” Regulus paused and bit his bottom lip as he raked his eyes down James’ body. “Watch you showing off.”

James grabbed his hands and pulled him to his feet. “Uh uh. Nope. Today is an activity day, not an observation day.” James started walking backwards towards the ocean, dragging a reluctant Regulus with him. “You’ll love it once we’re in.”

“I doubt that very much. We live on the British Isles. The water is bloody freezing, regardless of how warm out it is. Not to mention the fact that it is barely 9am, so the water has had no time to warm up properly, anyway!” Regulus continued to protest, even though his feet kept moving.

James stopped them just short of the incoming tide and gave him a knowing look. “Do you really not want to come in?” Regulus pouted. “I’ll take that as a no. So, hold on tight, little spider monkey.”

“Wha-ARGH! PUT ME DOWN!” Regulus screeched as James lifted him into the air, threw him over his shoulder and started walking into the water.

James hissed as the water lapped his ankles. “Oh, yeah, Reg, you may have been right, it is a tad chilly.” Regulus heard the smirk as James continued to wade deeper into the ocean.

“I swear to god,” Regulus started, before he froze. “James?” The stillness and silence coming from his boyfriend started to worry him. “Ja-”

Regulus had just enough time to hold his breath before James plunged them both into the ice cold waters of the English Channel. They were barely under for more than a few seconds, but it was enough to steal the breath from his lungs. He resurfaced and sucked in as much air as he could, starting to cough and splutter, as his body only allowed him to take shallow breaths. James’ arms wrapped around his waist and Regulus instinctively held on, even if he was incredibly pissed off at the other man in that moment.

“You’re alright, love, it’s okay, just breathe.” James’ voice was calm and controlled as he rubbed Regulus’ back. “That’s it. You’re okay, I’ve got you.”

Regulus felt his body shaking as he clung to his boyfriend. “I hate you,” he muttered as his teeth chattered together.

James gave a soft laugh. “I know you do right now, but you’ll get over it soon. We just need to start moving and we’ll warm up.” James spun them so his back was to the horizon and Regulus’ back was to the beach and he started to bob them backwards.

“James!” Regulus gasped as he held on even tighter.

“Baby, we’re gonna be fine so long as you stop trying to suffocate me.” James’ hands continued to rub up and down his back as they moved further out to sea. Regulus loosened his grip but was still holding on fairly tightly. “There we go.”

As Regulus got used to the cold and the gentle bobbing of their bodies, he found himself starting to slowly relax and eventually he felt himself cracking a small smile.

“Does this mean you don’t hate me anymore?”

“It means I hate you a little less.” Regulus conceded.

James pulled him in and kissed him. “I’ll take it.”

“Did you quote Twilight at me before you tried to kill me?” Regulus asked with a slight grimace.

James laughed loudly. “Yes, yes I did.”

Regulus shook his head. “You’re an idiot.”

“Yeah, but I’m you’re idiot.”

“Sadly, yes.”

“Oh, sadly? Huh. Well, I can just leave if you want?” James teased as he pulled away. Regulus held on tight and pulled their bodies close together. “That’s what I thought. Now, I’m gonna kiss you and feel you up and enjoy your mostly naked body.”

“I can get onboard with that.”

“Excellent.”

Falling - Jegulus - @jeggyverses-jegulus-microfic - word count: 700

Unsurprisingly, given the hour, the beach was almost empty when they pulled into the carpark. Regulus stretched out his limbs as he got out of the car and looked around with some confusion.

“James?”

“Yes, love?” James’ voice drifted over the top of the car.

“Not to be a Debbie Downer, but where is the ocean?”

James popped his head around from the open boot. “What?”

“Where is the ocean?” Regulus asked again as he swept his arms around them, at the empty carpark and the large sand dunes. James burst out laughing. “James Potter, if you dragged me out to the middle of nowhere, at arse o’clock, for some prank,” Regulus spat. “You will never see me naked again.”

James instantly stopped laughing and stepped forward, two chair bags in his arms. “Reg, sweetheart, I swear this isn’t a prank. This is just the carpark, the water is on the other side of the dunes.”

“It had better be.” Regulus pouted. “Give me those.”

“You don’t have to carry them.” James protested and Regulus rolled his eyes.

“I’m more than capable of carrying two camping chairs, James.”

James looked like he wanted to argue, but instead he handed over the chairs and kissed him on the cheek. “Alright.”

James picked up the rest of the bags that he had packed, which seemed a lot for two people, but Regulus was too tired to be concerned about it too much. Regulus pulled the boot back down and locked the car, as James’ hands were so full and then followed the other man as he headed off towards a footpath.

As they walked through the dunes, Regulus could hear the waves crashing onto the beach and when the ocean came into view, Regulus stopped in his tracks. He hadn’t been to the beach in years, the sand was always irritating, but as he looked out over the crystal, blue green waves and the early morning sun lighting the sand, his breath was taken away and he chastised himself for not coming more often.

“Reg?” James called out to him and Regulus blinked, not realising how far James had gotten from him. “You coming?” James chuckled as Regulus moved quickly to his side.

“Sorry,” Regulus muttered as he put the chairs down. “But this view.”

“Yeah, I know.” James said softly.

“You’re not even looking at the view.”

James moved into Regulus’ space and wrapped his arms around his waist, as Regulus’ arms came up and wrapped around his neck. “I’m looking at the best view here.”

Regulus rolled his eyes. “You are such a sap.”

“You keep saying that and yet, you’re still here.” James’ breath brushed across Regulus’ lips.

“Yeah, I guess I am.” Regulus closed the distance.

The kiss was soft and warm, not rushed, not leading to anything, just them in the moment. Regulus was the one to pull away first and James whined as he did.

Regulus ignored him. “I need more coffee. What time does the café open?”

“Eugh, I’m not letting you drink that rubbish. I brought some with us.” Regulus opened his mouth to respond, but James continued with his hands held up. “I know, I know, I’m the perfect boyfriend and you’ll be falling for me any minute.”

Regulus smirked at him. “You’re very sure of yourself, Mr. Potter.”

James pulled one of the chairs out and unfolded it for him. “Only one it comes to knowing that the way to your heart is through good coffee and homecooked food.” Regulus sat down as James spoke and pushed one of the coolers towards him. Regulus opened the lid and beamed. “See, good coffee, plenty of good food and you’re happy.”

“I hate that you know that about me already.”

James crawled towards him, put his hands on Regulus knees and leaned in. “No, you don’t.”

Regulus chewed on his cheek. “No, I don’t,” he confessed. James leaned in further and Regulus pecked him on the end of the nose.

James grinned at him. “Right, suncream, coffee, then we’re going for a swim.”

“Sounds perfect.” Regulus pulled his bag towards him and fished out his suncream. “Wait!” His eyes widened. “Did you say swimming?!”

Astronomy - Jegulus - @jeggyverses-jegulus-microfic - word count: 706

“Reg, sweetheart?”

Regulus heard the quiet voice calling to him, but Regulus was too warm and comfortable to care.

“Baby, it’s time to get up.”

Regulus groaned and pulled the duvet higher up.

“I have coffee.”

The delicious scent of the perfect roast hit his nose and Regulus began to stir.

“Is there food too?” He rasped, as his voice began to wake up.

“Of course. What kind of boyfriend would I be if I offered you coffee without a croissant.”

Regulus pulled the duvet off his face and blinked up at James, who was perched on the bed next to him.

“There he is. Good morning, sunshine.” James leaned in and kissed the tip of his nose. “How you feeling?”

“Shagged out.” Regulus admitted with a light chuckle and James smiled down at him.

“So romantic,” he commented with a shake of his head. “Here.” Regulus sat up and James handed him his coffee.

“Are you already dressed?” Regulus questioned as his eyes fully adjusted to being awake at what felt like stupid o’clock.

“Yes, love. I’ve been up for a while and have even packed the car. I just need your beautiful self to get washed and dressed and then we can head off.”

“What time is it?”

“That doesn’t matter.”

“James.”

“Regulus.”

The two men stared at each other, both doing a horrible job at hiding their smirks. Regulus was the first to crack.

“Eugh, fine. Give me ten minutes.”

“Perfect.” James leaned in and kissed him on the forehead.

Regulus muttered and groaned to himself as he took a quick shower and got dressed. The coffee that James had made was amazing, he would have to check the brand so he could pick some up next time he went shopping.

As he reached the bottom of the stairs, he spotted a very thick book on the sideboard that he hadn’t seen the night before. He picked up the heavy volume, “Astronomy through the ages,” and looked it over. It looked like the sort of thing Remus would be interested in.

“Ah, there you are, ready to go?” James asked as he walked down the corridor towards him.

“I didn’t have you down as an astronomy fan.” Regulus commented, as he held the book up.

“Oh, yeah, that’s not mine. I put it there so I wouldn’t forget to return it. It’s Dora’s. She leant it to Harry. It’s their thing apparently.” James was so nonchalant about it all, it both warmed Regulus’ heart and made him sad thinking he may never be able to have this kind of relationship with Harry.

Regulus put the book down and moved past James to put his cup in the kitchen.

“Hey.” James said softly behind him. “What’s wrong?”

“Why would anything be wrong?” Regulus asked with a forced smile as he dropped his cup into the sink and turned around.

“Because you’ve got that look that says something sad went through your brain.”

“How could you possibly know that?”

“Because I pay attention to the important things.” James replied earnestly and it made Regulus’ insides feel funny.

“I just…” Regulus didn’t know how to finish his sentence, so he shrugged his shoulders.

“Wonder if you and Harry will get on like he does with Dora.” James finished for him and Regulus nodded. James folded him into his arms. “Sweetheart, Harry is gonna love you, I know he will. You just have one extra hoop to jump that Dora didn’t.”

“I’m his teacher.”

James nodded. “Which won’t be a problem once he gets to know you outside of school.”

“Okay.”

“Okay.” James squeezed him tightly before leaning back to look at him. “So, shall we go?”

“Yeah, erm, before we do…”

James tilted his head. “Yes?”

“Do you have a travel mug I can borrow for more coffee?”

James laughed. “Already in the car, love.”

“Damn,” Regulus chewed his bottom lip. “You really are a great boyfriend.”

“Damn straight I am.” James beamed proudly. “Come on. Get in the car where you can have more coffee and your croissant.”

Regulus took the proffered hand and followed James out to the car. The whole time his mind pondering all the things he could bond with Harry over.

Memories - Jegulus _ @jeggyverses-jegulus-microfic - word count: 578

“Wow.” Regulus panted as they laid on the kitchen floor, the remnants of their pasta dinner scattered around them.

“Yeah.” James replied just as breathy. “That was…just…woah.”

Regulus chuckled heavily as he tried to get his breath back. “Slightly disappointed that the pasta didn’t survive.” Regulus commented as he looked at the mix of pasta and vegetables smeared across the floor and their bodies.

“That’s what you’re thinking about right now?” James asked, scandalised.

“It was really good.” Regulus pouted and then gasped as James rolled back on top of him.

He was still oversensitive from the mind blowing sex that had just occurred and as James’ naked body rubbed against his own, the friction was both exhilarating and too much.

“James,” Regulus murmmed as he gripped the other mans arms. “What are you doing?”

“Trying to distract you from the lack of pasta.” James growled as he leaned down and nipped at Regulus’ ear and rolled his hips into Regulus.

Regulus sucked in a breath and his head rolled back as James trailed wet kisses down the column of his throat and pressed his body closer to Regulus’.

Regulus raised his left leg and pushed, rolling James to the side so he was flat to the floor and Regulus was now straddling his hips.

“This works for me.” James smirked as he gripped Regulus’ hips.

“James Potter, you need to give me a minute to catch my breath.” James pouted and Regulus put his hand over his mouth to stop him speaking. “I am also covered in pasta sauce and I do not feel sexy in any way.” James mumbled against his hand and Regulus smiled as he quirked an eyebrow. “I need a shower.” Regulus moved his hand.

“That can be arranged.” James sat up and pulled Regulus into him, kissing him more gently than Regulus had expected, given the heat in his eyes. “Come on, love. Let’s get cleaned up.”

Regulus shuffled back and the two men got to their feet. James chuckled as he looked around at the mess they had made. Clothes, pasta sauce, the travel size bottle of lube and…

“Let me just put this all in the bin. Do you want to head up?” Regulus nodded and grabbed his clothes before heading upstairs.

In James’ en-suite, as the shower warmed up, Regulus took the time to check himself over in the mirror. Aside from the pasta sauce spread up one side of his body, he also had hickeys. Hickeys! Like he was some sort of teenager. Luckily, they were just below his collarbone, so he would be able to hide them at work, but still. The hickey on his hip was the darkest one and he brushed his fingers over it.

A low whistle made him turn towards the doorway where James was leaning against the doorframe, still completely naked and looking him up and down.

“What?” Regulus asked coyly.

“Nothing, just saving this incredible image to the file of memories I never want to forget.”

“Me covered in pasta sauce?” Regulus started backing up towards the shower as James stalked towards him.

“You, naked, standing in my bathroom looking good enough to eat.”

“Well, in that case…” Regulus trailed off as he stepped under the shower, the hot water cascading over his flesh.

James was on him in seconds and, not for the last time that night, Regulus allowed himself to be lost in the embrace of the other man.

Prompt: Birthday

Jegulus microfic - 207 words

"Happy birthday dear Regulus… Happy birthday to you!" James finished singing, doing jazz hands.

"Thank you for that serenade," Regulus said, trying to keep his expression blank. No one except Sirius had ever sung him happy birthday before.

"And now…" James drum rolled his hands on his thighs, before reaching into his bedside table and pulling out a cupcake, decorated with icing and completed with a singular candle.

"Do you know a spell to light it?" He asked sheepishly. Regulus stared at it.

"I do have a proper cake, but I couldn't bring it in here without you seeing it, so this is all I have for now, sorry," James continued to apologise, as though he had done something wrong.

"Regulus?"

"James," he croaked, voice embarrassingly hoarse with emotion.

"Oh no, you hate it," James said, wincing. "Sorry, I should have done something better, I just—"

But he was cut off as Regulus lurched forwards and cut him off with a fierce kiss.

"You don't hate it?" James asked when they pulled back, panting and red faced.

"I love you," Regulus said for the first time. James paused in shock for a split second, before drawing him into a hug, holding him tightly.

"I love you too."
