Jun. 16th, 2010 02:29 pmMy mom owns and runs a small massage business (she's a licensed massage therapist, who also uses reiki- or energy healing- as well). It's just her right now as the sole employee, so when she's doing massages in her studio, she has to lock the main door so people don't come in for five finger discounts. The problem is that cuts down on people coming in to make appointments.
My dilemma is this- she's offered to let me work as a sort of receptionist
So my question is, do you think I should go for it?
Your result for The Golden Compass Daemon Test...
Multi-Faceted Soul

In a way, you are a truly balanced person. You have a good sense of self, but you have periods of worry and self doubt. You don't like to be alone a lot, but you don't like being constantly surrounded, either. You can be shy in some situations and bold in others. You can tell people how you feel, but you don't wear your heart on your sleeve. You aren't "TOO" anything: You aren't too shy, you aren't too aggressive, you aren't too extroverted, you aren't too introverted. However at any one time you can be any combination of these things.
You tend to adapt yourself to match the situations in which you find yourself. You may be quiet and sensitive with some people, or joking and loud with others. These are all facets of your personality. People tend to perceive you as they want to perceive you. They may even tend to idealize you a bit. Then, when you do something that doesn't fit their concept of who you are (like have an outburst of anger, or a fit of shyness, or make an insensitive joke)they can be shocked and surprised. Does anyone know the real you?
Your daemon would represent your multi-faceted and ever-changing personality, as well as people's tendency to idealize you. He or she would get angry when you did not, be calm and poised when you felt ruffled and anxious, and always be the voice of emotion and reason in your ear.
Suggested forms:
Swan, Elephant, Koala, Panda, Chameleon, Wolf.

Angels among us?
Aug. 10th, 2009 07:17 amJust now, I think I've had an encounter with the humblest of angels- a simple turtle.
I have this little grove that I like to go to, either to burn incense or to leave tobacco pouch offerings, or just to watch the vultures that roost there. I felt a need to go to it, thinking I might find some vulture feathers to use in a staff I'm making. So I grabbed my keys and my cellphone, hooking my phone on my pants pocket, and off I went. I reached the grove, found some feathers, and just took in the silence while watching the vultures watch me. Eventually it got too hot out to stay, so I started back home.
Suddenly I saw this box turtle sitting right at the edge of the road like she wanted to cross. I, knowing she wouldn't have a chance if a car came, picked her up and moved her to the other side of the road. Then I decided to take a picture of her with my phone and reached for my phone.
But it was gone. Panicking slightly, I started looking around, then realized it must have fallen off in the grove. Hurrying back, I found my phone to my relief.
It was barely a minute before I got back to where I'd left the turtle, and she was gone. Not a single trace of her, and I looked everywhere.
So, yeah. I think I met an angel in the shape of a turtle today. XD
I need a "fuck yeah fish" icon...
Jun. 24th, 2009 02:56 amI started with regular comet goldfish and did pretty well with them. They reached six inches before one jumped out of the tank and the others died in a tank accident. ^^;;
But now I have a hardy community that's doing well. A little too well, if you ask me. >_>;; I've got some danios, some mollies, some neon tetras, a loach, and a marine snail.
Why do I say they're doing too well?
The little bastards are breeding.
First the danios had babies, of which three have survived. They just graduated from the breeder tank today and got to enter the main tank with the adults. But the breeder tank did not stay empty long.
You see, when I went to feed the fish this morning, I discovered my female molly had babies. After a bit of lakjsdfh, I had to clean out the tank- take out the plants, move the adults to another container- and chase down all the little fry. So I now have about 20 to 30 teeny baby mollies in the breeder tank, and I have NO clue what to do with them when they get bigger. XD;;

Feb. 2nd, 2009 12:30 amBut not anymore.
Now, this may be selfish of me, but it's really starting to annoy me how often this particular scenario plays out. I'm talking to a friend online, discussing plans for RP, and we're both getting excited about doing this idea and that, and we're eager to start and deciding who's going to start, when I suddenly get the dreaded message.
"brb, I need to do such and such" or "bbl, I need to do this and that"
So like a fool, I wait...and wait...and wait...
And eventually (usually after at least eight hours have passed) I realize...they're not coming back, resulting in me being hurt and upset.
I'm perfectly aware that Real Life > RP, but I'm still wondering when the heck "brb" and "bbl" stopped meaning "I'm going to return" and started meaning "I'm going to vanish for the rest of the day and not tell you."
I at least try to have the decency to tell my RP partners when my plans change and let them know I might not be coming back for the rest of the day, so I kinda expect to have that decency returned. I mean, it's just common courtesy, right? Or am I completely off base here?

Question and a favor~
Dec. 19th, 2008 01:00 pm[01] Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey?
Why wouldn't I? It's not like I care what people think of MY opinions.
[02] Would you do meth if it was legalized?
Hell no. My body is my temple, and I'm not going to pollute it with drugs or cigarettes.
[03] Abortion: for or against it?
This is a tough question. It would depend on the circumstance. I personally believe that abortion should be an option if the mother's life is in danger, or there's no chance of the child to have a healthy and happy life.
[04] Do you think the world would fail with a female president?
Why would it? What's gender got to do with how skilled you are, or how qualified you are to do something?
[05] Do you believe in the death penalty?
Yes. I'm all for forgive and forget and second chances proving a person's true character, but there are just some things that just can't be punished with anything less than death.
[06] Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?
No. It's just fine being illegal.
[07] Are you for or against premarital sex?
I have nothing against it. I don't see anything wrong with enjoying protected sex without marriage, nor do I see anything wrong with wanting to remain a virgin. It comes down to a person's choice, and what right do I have to dictate another person's life?
[08] Do you believe in God?
I believe in the Creator, as well as other Gods and Goddesses. I also believe in angels, demons, spirits, and an afterlife. I don't believe in Hell.
[09] Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
Hell yes. What right does anyone have to dictate who you can and can't love? That's not anyone's choice but the people who are in love.
[10] Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?
Gee, whatever happened to "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me: I lift my lamp beside the golden door."?
[11] A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?
That would depend on who is going to care for the baby, if she's emotionally mature enough to care for it, and if she's emotionally mature enough to give it up. And what's a twelve year old girl doing having unprotected sex anyway?
[12] Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?
Why? It's fine where it is.
[13] Should the war in Iraq be called off?
Yes. There's no point to it anymore. Enough people have been killed, let the soldiers come home.
[14] Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?
No. That's infringing on a person's free will and their right to choose. If there's no hope for a cure or for a person to live, they shouldn't be kept at death's door for however long they remain alive as a vegetable. What happened to dying with dignity? What happened to improving the quality of life, not the quantity? When did these become abhorrent?
[15] Do you believe in spanking your children?
Yes, I do. Children need discipline and direction to become good people. It's when it goes overboard and becomes abuse that it's wrong.
[16] Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?
No, I wouldn't. I may not like my country sometimes, but I'm proud to be an American and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
[17] Who do you think would make a better president? McCain or Obama?
Neither. I think I should be president, but I'm not old enough to run yet. Nine more years! Seriously though, I hate politics and I hate when candidates go back on their promises.
[18] Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?
They'll judge me anyway, so what difference will it make?
So! Last time I mentioned my mom might have polycythemia vera, a rare acquired genetic blood disorder where the marrow produces massive amounts of red blood cells. Well, she does have it, and she's been doing very well with it.
But the drama didn't end there. She ended up with breast cancer. That's been treated and dealt with and she's been in remission for over a year.
Recently, she's been taking classes to become a massage therapist, and she graduated in May. Not only that, she passed her national board Thursday. \o/
In other Mom news, she's also going through training to become a High Priestess in the Fellowship of Isis, and she's carried on our area's Moon Circle gathering after our previous leader retired.
In personal news, I'm still me and I haven't changed to my knowledge. Much. XD
What Yaoi Final Fantasy 8 Couple are You?

A little unorthadox and certainly startling but who said age matters? You're Laguna/Seifer!!

My mom went to the doctor recently and he said that she might possibly have a rare aquired genetic disorder called polycythemia vera. We don't know for sure yet. She's going to a hematologist to find out for sure.
I'm not entirely sure what it is myself. It's a rare aquired genetic disorder. It's something to do with the blood and bone marrow. What's bad is some of the chemicals that are used to treat it could make it go into a really weird form of leukemia. And it's onset is usually around age 60. Ironic because my mom's turning 60 on the 28th.
So...yeah. Worried about my mom, really hoping she doesn't have this.
Sad news...
Feb. 22nd, 2006 12:06 pmBut that's not the worst of it in my opinion.
Two kittens- ones that I knew and was friends with- were killed in the fire. THey were found in a closet, so they had no chance whatsoever...
Fa-La-Fucking-La
Dec. 23rd, 2005 01:12 pmI'm currently living on welfare because I'm disabled and unable to work. I get about $800 a month to live on, and that goes to rent, power, phone, and groceries. I'm lucky if I have any money left to buy extra things after all that. My power and phone bills are usually affordable, as are groceries. The problem is my rent- it's currently $415 a month, which may not seem like a lot, but for someone on a VERY fixed income, it's barely affordable.
And then I get a letter today saying they're going to increase the rent to $430! What the hell?! >< I can't afford that, and it's the cheapest place I've found so far to live! And moving back in with my parents is out of the question- they don't have anywhere to put me.
I don't know what the hell I'm supposed to do. There's no place cheaper around here that I can find, the only transportation I have is a bicycle, I can't afford to move somewhere where it's cheaper to live, and I certainly can't expect any help from my stepfather.
Unnerving experience... o.o
Nov. 14th, 2005 07:00 pmUntil just now... o_o
My cat Merlin was sitting on my lap while I was chatting with some friends online, when all of a sudden Merlin growled and looked at the front door- I have NEVER heard him growl like that before- and he moved to an almost protective stance on my lap. When I went to look through the peephole of my door, I didn't see anything out there. Feeling a little freaked out, I got out my pendulum to ask what was going on, and this is the basic conversation-
Me: Was it a person Merlin was growling at?
Pendulum: *swings back and forth* no
Me: Was it an animal?
Pendulum: *swings back and forth* no
Me: >_>;; Was it a spirit?
Pendulum: *swings in circles* YES
Me: ._.;; Was it a spirit that meant me harm?
Pendulum: *swings in circles* YES
Me: ._.;;
Further questioning said that the spirit was gone and wouldn't come back, and that Merlin had protected me.
I've got crabs!
Jul. 26th, 2005 05:38 pmThis morning I went down to one of the parks by my apartment that's by the bay and I walked along the water. I noticed some weird tracks in the sand in the water, so I kinda followed them, and low and behold! I found a hermit crab! So I catch it and put it in a little bucket I found, then continued along the shore. I got to this little stream that goes into the bay and as I was watching it, I saw some tadpoles. >.> Caught those too and put them in the bucket. Then when I headed back the other way, I found a HUGE hermit crab. XD He was too big for the bucket, so I just carried him as I headed home.
I've got all the critters in a tank now, and the big crab likes throwing the little one around while the tadpoles just swim around like crazy. XD;; I don't plan on keeping them too long. Just long enough for my mom to see, then I'll let them go.
I finally got tagged. XD;;

Apr. 12th, 2005 05:50 pmWis. Considers Legalizing Cat Hunting
MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Feline lovers holding pictures of cats, clutching stuffed animals and wearing whiskers faced-off against hundreds of hunters at meetings around Wisconsin to voice their opinion on whether to legalize cat hunting.
Residents in 72 counties were asked whether free-roaming cats - including any domestic cat that isn't under the owner's direct control or any cat without a collar - should be listed as an unprotected species. If listed as so, the cats could be hunted.
The proposal was one of several dozen included in a spring vote on hunting and fishing issues held by the Wisconsin Conservation Congress. The results, only advisory, get forwarded to the state Natural Resources Board.
Statewide results were expected Tuesday.
La Crosse firefighter Mark Smith, 48, helped spearhead the cat-hunting proposal. He wants Wisconsin to declare free-roaming wild cats an unprotected species, just like skunks or gophers. Anyone with a small-game license could shoot the cats at will.
At least two other upper Midwestern states, South Dakota and Minnesota, allow wild cats to be shot - and have for decades. Minnesota defines a wild, or feral, cat as one with no collar that does not show friendly behavior, said Kevin Kyle with that state's Department of Natural Resources.
Every year in Wisconsin alone, an estimated 2 million wild cats kill 47 million to 139 million songbirds, according to state officials. Despite the astounding numbers, Smith's plan has been met with fierce opposition from cat lovers.
Critics of Smith's idea organized Wisconsin Cat-Action Team and developed a Web site - dontshootthecat.com. Some argue it is better to trap wild cats, spay or neuter them, before releasing them.
In Madison, about 1,200 people attended the Monday evening meeting at the Alliant Center - more than the 250 or so in a typical year, but less than the 3,000 or so who took part in a debate in 2000 over whether to allow hunters to shoot mourning doves.
One of the attendees was Katy Francis, who wore cat ears, whiskers, a cat nose and a sign that read, ``Too Cute to Kill.'' For Francis, ``The cat hunting thing brought me out because it was very extreme.''

Lions and tigers and llamas!
Mar. 27th, 2005 03:08 pmBut it wasn't a REALLY good day until we were on our way home. ^.^ We stopped in Fort Walton at a strip mall called Uptown Statian for a while, and there happened to be a petting zoo tent set up in the parking lot. It was free to get in, so I went in while my mom stayed in the car. It was like a mini zoo, with goats, a llama, a camel, ponies, a small cow, two tigers, a black leopard, a baboon, ring-tailed lemurs, and two of the cutest lion cubs I've ever seen! ^.^ In the free area they had the goats, cow, llama, camel, and ponies where you could pet them, and there were pony rides. One of the tigers- an orange one- and the baboon and lemurs were behind a fence, and the white tiger and black leopard were in a smaller tent that cost 75 cents to get into. As for the cubs, it was set up so you could get your picture taken with one of them, so I now have a picture of me holding an eight-week-old female cub. She was so soft and fluffy and totally adorable!
And something interesting happened there, too. >.> When I went to see the panther and the white tiger, the panther flat out ignored everyone else and just stared at me the whole time I was in there, and the white tiger woke up when I went past its cage and it also stared at me. Then, when I went to see the other tiger, he ignored everyone and stared at me, too. It was a little freaky the way they were looking at me, like they knew me. Maybe it was because they knew I was a cat person. I dunno.
