I played a lot of WoW last night. "A lot." Again, not all one character or class, but since I decided on a server I had to go RE-create all my characters there and start levelling them up. Sigh. I decided on a couple of other things, namely that right now I don't want to play a Gnome or a Dwarf, because the thought of spending another 11 levels in their winter wonderland makes me want to scream.
I also decided to give the Horde a try. The last time I tried WoW I was strictly an "Alliance good, Horde evil" kind of person, but I've been reading a lot of lore and I think the Tauren are the most "good" and pure class in the game. Also, I have a lot of respect for the Orcs, who are struggling for redemption despite the hate and revulsion of so many. It just sucks that they're SO UGLY >.>. At any rate, I tried playing an Orc Hunter for a few levels and... uh... well, I don't HATE them or anything, but I'm not feeling terribly inspired by either the Hunter class or the Orc homeland. I know, you can't tell what you're dealing with on only 9 levels, but I'm not terribly compelled to spend much more time on it either. We'll see.
I spent most of my time playing my Draenei instead (they have Russian accents! In Soviet Russia, Draenei play YOU!). I got her up to level 14, but I am not in love with this race either, mostly because I HATE THEIR HOMEWORLD OMG. This touches on one of my huge problems with WoW, which is that I can never find anything and I am always getting lost. All the quests give vague-ass directions like "head southwest and cross the river" and I'm like, how far? How south? How west? and I end up discovering some other random township overrun with mobs that I then kill, and get a bunch MORE quests out of storyline sequence, and I still haven't found the *@$ berry or whatever I was supposed to get in the first place! Are quest markers so damned offensive, people? I really miss the pulsing green star of Guild Wars fame.
So anyway, 14 levels later and I have a ton of unfinished quests for my Draenei because I couldn't find what I needed and instead wound up in some other god-forsaken country. Or something. I don't even know what I'm doing anymore. Finally, after getting lost for the billionth time, I staggered back to a town I COULD find and logged out. I may never play her again -_-;;. Also, I'm not feelin' the Shaman class. I think I'm too dim-witted to understand the totem stuff. Sigh.
Finally, I went back to my Blood Elf. I object to them morally, but I re-rolled a Priest this time (I've heard they're good to play?? What do I know?) and am now level 9. I am enjoying this much more at the moment... things are easier to find, there are actual ROADS, and unlike the Draenei homeworld, this place is brightly lit so I don't feel like I'm stumbling around in the dead of night. (see also: Night Elves and why I won't play one)
My Tauren druid is also still on the agenda....
In computer news, I got an e-mail from Apple this morning saying that my repair was complete (! really?) and it's actually arrived at my apartment already. I haven't opened it yet to see what they've done. I'm skeptical, to be honest. They didn't say what they repaired, what they determined was wrong, or whether they replaced it, or what. Hmmmm.

Date: 2008-03-11 08:11 pm (UTC)To see someone say "at level 9 I'm just not feeling the hunter class" pains me, because hunters 1-10 are not really hunters, since you only get your pet quest at 10. I don't understand the developers' rationale there, but whatever. Hunters post-pets are so different. Arguably boring because it makes things so easy. My draenei hunter is totally sexy though. :)
also there's a serious disconnect between the draenei and blood elf starting zones and all the old once, since they're the two new races. The designers learned from their mistakes (I do like the BE area more than draenei though, by far). Most people who roll a classic Horde race do quests until level 5 and then run the character over to Ghostlands cos it's so much faster and easier (and prettier, IMO, screw the Barrens).

Date: 2008-03-12 04:28 pm (UTC)At this point I've played up to the low 20's with a Priest, Mage, and Warlock, and I think I enjoyed the Mage and Warlock the best. I definitely preferred the Blood Elves starting area to the Draenei, but I found the Ghostlands to be dark and depressing and I think that's part of why I ended up abandoning my BElf Priest :/.
I've since been distracted by other pretty shiny games, though I still think the Draenei females are the sexiest of all :P.
(P.S. Hi! I totally get the not following my IJ thing. I lost a shit-ton of readership by moving, sigh. Alas.)
