Normally I don't do this, but last night I decided to check out a few of the new anime for this fall (all just one episode currently) and was pleasantly surprised. Lately I've not been motivated to watch more than one or two at a time, and sometimes late in the game.
Zetsuen No Tempest K Project Kamisama Hajimimashita (or Kamisama Kiss) Magi
Unintentionally, these all revolve around magic more or less.
Jet gave me even more than this - including the one shot I posted way back and a requisite Captain Morgan shot - but I figured limiting the number I bombard you with is a kinder approach. The volunteer tallships organization was super awesome to let us traipse all over the deck, even though they were all there to do maintenance (slightly awkward haha); one guy even told me I could climb the rigging if I wanted so long as I was careful. That brought about the "Will Turner" shot. lol I was ready to go higher, but Jet told me to stay low.
The 100th anniversary of the maiden and last voyage of the Titanic is currently happening. Tomorrow at about 11:30 pm EST will be a 100 years from the moment it struck the iceberg, and approximately two hours later at 2 am EST it was below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean.
One hundred years. It's amazing to think about. I will likely forget to post at those times in remembrance, and since my Katsucon post is going to end up bullet-pointed, I will share photos of my Rose DeWitt Bukater costume here. Not exactly historical, since it's from the movie Titanic (1997, can you believe it?), but it's in the same spirit.
It should be made entirely out of chiffon, but I'd never worked with the material before, so the long part of the dress is georgette. singingraisin did the beading on the bodice for me and the accent beautifully matches my earrings from 1928.
My plan for Saturday is to drive down to Del Mar and take part in the costume walkabout for the Del Mar Antiques and Collectibles Show. Their theme is Titanic and that time period so there will be roughly 40 of us acting as passengers on the ship. Afterward, Jet and I are going to the Titanic exhibit in the San Diego Natural History Museum. It will be open from 9am to 3am in honor of the anniversary, and tickets cost $19.12 which I thought was a nice touch. I found out the other day that one of the restaurants in Balboa Park is holding a 10 course meal replicating a 1st class dinner that day, but unfortunately it's somewhere in the range of $100-200. XD
And just for those of you who either went to the theater multiple times to watch the movie, or those of you who like to make fun of it:
I'm back from Katsucon! I was a good girl and took more photos at this con, and I documented some of what I did so I could remember more easily. So a LEGIT CON REPORT will happen. *gasp* The world will end.
BUT
Just had to share what I think was the best thing I came across all weekend. I actually chased him down, no joke.
In less than 24 hours I'll be up at altitude on my way to Washington, D.C.! I haven't been there in at least ten years, and I've never been to Katsucon before. New con excitement! I'm hoping to see as many of my East Coast friends as possible. I get to catch up with two old college friends as well, which should be fun. I'll be in town until Monday afternoon (yay for holidays).
FYI - If anyone that's going has changed their phone number in the last, oh, five years, send me a message somehow so I can update my contact list. lol
Cosplays plans may be shifting a bit - Earth Kingdom Sokka may become Fire Nation Sokka - but I don't mind. I haven't worn him to a con since I went to Otakon five years ago, and not having to finish the new one tonight will relieve some stress (so much trim).
Otherwise, the plans are Kuranosuke, Rose, Sokka, and Shouma unless I'm asked differently. Two shifts at the FUNimation booth for ACP. I'm going to be wandering around like a lost little child all Friday, so if you see me please help me out. lol I may also revert to shyness so come poke me.
I'm thinking of finally making a Twitter account so I can post updates while I'm there. Having a smartphone at last makes it a bit more worthwhile. only a bit
Not included are the sakura blossoms, the FMA movie event, ACen (as I haven't decided if I'm going or not), SDCC (also not sure), and photoshoots outside cons. Jeebus. I'm going to be a sloth for the whole second half of the year.
They're actually two different heights too! A slightly odd selection - and Frodo looks like a middle-aged Beatle (George perhaps) - but once I picked it up, it went with me to the register. I'm thoroughly amused. Yay, Pez.
In other news, I'll be going to Comikaze in LA on Saturday (Sokka's VA! Ben Browder!), maybe hit up the Fashion District beforehand, and the Escondido ren faire on Sunday! If anyone is interested in joining you are more than welcome to!
I be scribblin' down in me logs about me trip to Dana Point on a most appropriate day. Aye. I captured many a portrait, and some moving portraits as well. I deem you landlubbers worthy of viewing a handful of them, lest ye be wondering what it's like down there.
Dere be many more portraits, and a good number of moving ones to feast your eyes upon, but they will surface another day. It be o'er-tiring to be speakin' in this manner of address and me hand is done.
