I know politics make most of us depressed and angry and make us want to hide under rocks, bushels, and anything else we can find. Unfortunately, none of that provides protection, and while I was flailing around wondering what the hell would in this deep red state, my sister twigged me onto a YouTube channel she's been following for a while: Politics Girl. This is the channel of a Canadian transplant to L.A. who's made a point of studying American political structure at every level and breaking it down in layman's terms for her audience. She identifies as a Democrat, and has a strong commitment both to the right of the people to express our wishes via the vote, and to human and civil rights of all kinds.

Anyway, Leigh's main outreach is a podcast, but I follow her YouTube channel because I have CC turned on and can easily follow along on bad hearing days. While watching her does mean I'm more aware of certain political fuckery, it also means I'm a lot more aware of not only people and organizations around the country working against the fuckery, but more steps I personally can take to work against said fuckery. And as a result, I've realized I live in a much more purple state than I ever dared to hope. For me, that's worth the price of admission, but for sure gauge where you're at and maybe give one of her short rants a try if politics is—understandably—triggering for your mental/emotional health right now.
