For the first time...

I have contacted my congressmen, and the Pres concerning my thoughts on our current stance.

I know, why bother right?

I sat down and could have setup an account on bplay.com so I can started the process to 'locate' a purchase of about $5 in the past two years so I can play chess on my BB again... (After emailing them my emailed reciept) Or I could send the messages.

I figured one was more important and I'm hoping my intent will be heard.

Here are some other thoughts I've had about Egypt's situation:
* Read the first two paragraphs of the document that set our country in motion - the Declaration of Independence. Sounds very aropo, doesn't it?
* Nervous about the Muslim Brotherhood? For now they merely seem to be offer their organization's... erm, organization. In support of the people. Think of them as more like Martin Luther King's ministry rather than those scary Islamists. The 20% of their Congress that are of this banned org (so, officially, they're independent) have actually worked to try reform (ie: fix) their government and they actually seem to take their job seriously.
* their military supports the people - and just in 'not being violent' - but in a 'they said they support the people' kind of way. (Would you expect the same from our military? Sadly, I don't.)

I am disappointed in ALL of our political 'leaders' today.

The ACLU has asked the DOJ to investigate the Seattle PD for many documented uses of excessive force described as a 'pattern of violence by the Seattle Police Department' with some events described as 'inflict injury out of anger'.

Thank you ACLU.  Perhaps we cat get these thugs in line with 'protecting' rather than 'enforcing the law'.  There IS a distinct difference: mind-set.

Idaho (IDAHO!!!) has better officer training than Seattle does.  Frankly, that's embarassing.  I'm sure Idaho is a nice place with nice people (exception skin head dipshits), but the fact that their police depts are organized more intelligently with more informed and trained officers when you compare the relative education, household income and government budgets.

The SPD site says:
"A police agency earns respect by being transparent, answerable and accountable to the people. The Department is held accountable by a variety of measures, including the Office of Professional Accountability, the Firearms Review Board, CALEA Accreditation Standards and the Department's mission, training practices and policies." Either those policies, offices, etc, have NO teeth with NO requirements of the officers, OR these are empty words with no force or impact.  EVERY officer should be in-line with what the citizenry EXPECTS of their police department and when one officer witnesses unprofessional actions, even before they're done, should interrupt, correct and when necessary, report.

But, here we are.  Instead, we've got a 'brotherhood' of officers who treat their job as 'us vs them' and will aid (ie: abet) their fellow 'brothers' to protect them from 'unfair' rules, regulations and expectations.

I do not expect professionalism from police.  To be honest, I have occasionally (not nearly half) been surprised to find my expectations set low.

Here's hoping there's real change in the SPD and the surrounding communities model themselves on the new dept.

You cannot imagine how much this pisses me off.

Look at the video.  Look at it!  That kind of shove is ENTIRELY unnecessary.  And now an innocent man will never have his life - but hey, I'll bet the officer felt better after the shove.  Maybe not now, but he's still able to have his life.

What's worse is AFTER that pig (not all cops are pigs - but this one is) did the damage, he then starts to yank him around like a ragdoll.

For those that say "he shouldn't have run" that doesn't make the shove excusable.  It's entirely unrelated. That's like saying it's ok for someone to maim a person, cause the 'maimee' had maimed someone else.

The officer, if he had had a shred of professionalism, should have:
1) stopped
2) ordered suspect to lay down

But then I guess he wouldn't have gotten his own physical outlet - which of course is paramount. /s

There is no way to tell what kind of cop you're about to deal with.  Maybe the next one is decent guy with intelligence, or you get the guy who was always a bullying asshole, with subpar IQ, is going through a divorce, and you have committed a crime that just pisses him off (whatever it might be, simple speeding, jaywalking, etc).

I've got stories, and my friend have stories.  Events that have happened where an officer is just a plain asshole - including one instance where a friend was told to stay on his knees for over an hour (which, frankly, IS a form of torture - and this in Seattle) due to a little solo motor cycle play (a wheelie) on empty streets in the evening in SODO.

To be fair, I've stories on the other side too (decent cops), but the bad cops need to be gotten rid of.

The only problem: if you make a complaint, that officer will have it in for you.  He may even decide to cite you for stuff that he decided against at the time (for whatever reason).  People /know/ this.  Why do you think most don't complain?  For every complaint, I can nearly guarantee there's 10 more than didn't for fear of retribution by the cop and his 'brothers' (fuck their 'brotherhood' elitism btw - that has NO place in a civil protection agency).

Be careful kids!  Yessir/Yesmaam every cop and if they order you to do something, no matter how silly, just do it.  Better than getting slammed down cause you didn't follow quick enough and then the life you previously had a right to is gone.

Continuous VS Standby UPS

I just got off the phone with APC asking which units they sold offered 'continuous' rather than 'standy' power.

Continuous - always powered from batteries, which are charged when power is available.  This handles not only power spikes or flat out outages (like standby models), but low power conditions as well as 0 cutover time (as there isn't a cutover).

He informed me all the Smart-UPS and the RS models in the Back-UPS line all offer continuous.

I'm posting this info for a few reasons:

1) So you don't have to call APC :)
2) What other series from other manufacturers offer continuous ups?
3) Debate the whole necessity of continuous vs standy

More info about my setup/goals if you're curious:

My whole plan is get my home machines (2), 1TB San (750 due to raid5 - old, eh?), Router/WIFI AP and cable modem hooked up to either 1 or 2 of these + an LCD at each desk.  I'm divided whether I should get a higher rated unit for all, or 2 and split the load.

My main issue is power 'lows' - I've toasted 2 high end PSUs (along with mobo and vid card once), and the one I have now is working, but I suspect is not consistantly passing enough power to a hard drive that now refuses to stay on while under heavy use.  I don't know if either are now 'damaged', but I'm fairly certain the source problem is power.  I have a standby unit connected to my wife's computer currently, and occasionally it'll start beeping - leading me to believe stable power is an actual problem.

I plan on stopping by Home Depot on my way home for a Kill-A-Watt device so I'll know exactly what power rating I need.

Pathetic, and embarrassing coming from a family member.

The people of AZ already had to submit ID for all the below (before the bill). This is a straw man argument.

The new bill requires police to question anyone they "reasonably suspect" of being an undocumented immigrant -- a mandate for racial profiling on a massive scale. So, if someone has a Hispanic appearance, they're going to get an extra grilling - based purely on their appearance.

This is like what cops already do in inner cities - pulling over black people because, well, they're black. I've seen it myself in Woodinville. It's embarrassing and degrading - to me watching, to the person pulled over, and to the laws the police officer was supposedly upholding.

This bill has merely made hard working, honest people (ok, they broke the law when they entered illegally - but they're doing what they feel they must to support their family) who have no desire to break any (other) laws. Sure, not all of them are decent folk - but I'm going to guess it's in the approx the same ratio as the citizens of USA. People are people, and these people are typically hardworking very blue collar workers doing work no one else wants to do (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/06/24/colbert-immigrant-farm-wo_n_624875.html).

And to prove I'm not simply blustering with a bleeding heart, here's some text from our Constituion, 14th Amendment (which formally defined citizenship):
 
Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

I'd like to point out the use of two words here: person and citizen

Specifially:
"No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States" - sure, not getting extra questions/pull overs because you're Hispanic looking may not be specifically a 'privilege' or 'immunity' - but racial profiling has already been determined to be illegal.
And:
"nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws." - here, the text carefully uses the word person - rather than citizen. Non-citizens, whether here illegally or legally, are due the same protection from the law. (This also affects accused 'terrorists' in custody of the military, in my opinion. Either we trust our laws - and apply them where we have jurisdiction - or we don't. Anything else is pure hypocrisy.)

There's really a very short list of difference between person and citizen:
1) Citizen's can hold office (with further limitation based solely on where one was born, without exception - dumb, but not-relevant here)
2) Citizen's can vote
... but I digress.

The point of bringing up the 14th Amendments text is that AZ's bill runs counter to 'due the same protection from the law' and will have the effect of running counter to 'abridge(ing) the privileges or immunities of citizens'.

As for 'illegal immigration' - who cares? How did your great-great grandparents get here? Did they for sure go through some immigration? Was it a big deal if someone didn't? Were their children (and children's children) productive members of society? People are people. There's no 'special' class of people - other than citizens who are allowed to participate in the government.

AZ's bill /reeks/ of racial fear, bigotry, and small-mindedness - and this image is nothing but baiting based on unrelated and unaffected (pre and post bill) facts. (I especially like the scientific sounding 68% figure... that's a nice touch.)

1) There is a Denise Jacobs in Washougal WA...

2) Who apparently stopped Comcast service on Mar 11th, 2010.
3) And apparently this Denise Jacobs didn't like paying, so she didn't.
4) So Comcast sends the debt to a collections agency: Credit Collections Services.

5) And the collections company does some CRAZY fucking math and decides to try to collect from MY Denise Jacobs.

** Oh no they don't. **

After MUCH back and forth between the two companies, I have ascertained:

1) The address the credit agency has is just the BILLING address, not the service address - that's in effing Washougal, WA.
1a) And the address they have doesn't even include an apartment number - just "APT".
2) The driver's license number Comcast has and gave to the collection agency is NOT my Denise's.
3) My Denise did in fact, used to live at that same apartment complex, with a different last name - TEN YEARS AGO.
4) My Denise jacobs HAS an active Comcast account (ours) - and it's not related to this other delinquent Denise Jacobs.

So, after some closer look at them, there's another fact I have ascertained:

5) Credit Collections Services (of Two Wells Avenue, Newton, MA 02459, 7-617-581-1074) doesn't know their head from a hole in the ground and doesn't really understand facts and figures.

The fact that they somehow linked THAT Denise Jacobs to mine is just freaking ridiculous. Seriously? They HAVE the driver's license number. I'm certain they linked these facts:

1) My Denise used to live at a /similar/ address (under a different name).

Oh, nevermind, there's no other facts. JUST THAT - WTF?!?

C.C.S: Get your shit together, you effing retards. You can't let random computer generated links /THAT FAR STRETCHED/ actually result in a mailing out and attempt to assign responsibility for a debt. Have someone (who's not a idiot kthx - I feel I need to tell you) to check it first.

Oh, and Ryan (of CCS), I still think you were a jerk, and I suspect you hate your job (I would). But don't tell people that "you're /going/ to continue to attempt to collect, etc" (his emphasis) after having been told what's going on at the end of the call.
