The HK UMP is a modern sub machine gun of German origin. It was developed in the 1990's by Heckler & Koch to replace the MP5 on the production line. Even though the MP5 is one of the most appreciated sub machine gun designs, it was lacking in two areas: production cost is high and ability to accessorize is lacking in some areas. The UMP solved both issues, but in turn lacks the ergonomics the roller delayed blowback mechanism of the MP5. For that reason the MP5 remains in production.

DESIGN

The UMP is a simple blowback operated sub machine gun, which is a departure from the roller delayed blowback mechanism used in the MP5. The simple blowback mechanism makes the UMP cheaper to produce. The use of polymer reduced weight and cost even further. The MP5 was modular, but lacked in standardized accessories. The UMP uses a long Picatinny rail on top to mount optics. Accessory rails on the forearm allow for lasers, lights and vertical grips. The polymer stock can be folded to the side.

FIREPOWER

Depending on the variant, the UMP is chambered in 9×19mm, .40 S&W, or .45 ACP, offering varying levels of recoil and stopping power. It typically supports semi-automatic and fully automatic fire, allowing flexibility in close-range engagements. While effective at short distances, the UMP is optimized for tactical and law-enforcement roles rather than long-range combat, balancing controllability with practical firepower.

Two variants of the UMP are featured in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear: the 0.45cal UMP SMG and 0.45cal SD UMP SMG. The H&K UMP is a blowback-operated submachine gun designed in the 1990s as a cheaper, lighter alternative to the MP5, which made heavy use of polymers. The UMP45 variant is chambered for the larger .45 ACP cartridge, providing more stopping power against unarmoured targets, with slightly lower effectiveness at longer ranges. It features a 25-round detachable straight box magazine and a cyclic rate of fire of around 600 rounds per minute.

The UMP45 is a submachine gun featured in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. It is available for use by the FBI SWAT Operators Castle and Pulse, and the Keres Legion recruits during Assault on Hereford.

Overview

Similar to the 9mm C1, the UMP45 is a slow-firing submachine gun with a damage model that leaves something to be desired. It is, however, easy to control thanks to said fire rate and the gentle recoil. The high controllability also allows comfortable use of the Extended Barrel to mitigate damage dropoff.

Overview

The UMP45 performs in a similar manner to its counterpart in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. It has a relatively slow rate of fire with a somewhat low damage output. This fire rate does make it's recoil easy to control and allows comfortable use of the Extended Barrel to mitigate damage dropoff.

Siege

• In some stills, the UMP45 is equipped with a Holographic Sight or a Reflex Sight, a Suppressor and a Vertical Grip.
• When performing an empty reload, the bolt handle magically locks back itself. A more accurate way to model the reload animation would be either having the player to do exactly the same as reloading an MP5 in the game or having the player to press the bolt release after inserting a magazine.
