Quizzes. They clog up your friends page and occasionally stretch its frames out of proportion so you have to scroll side-to-side just to read all the other entries. Some feature graphics that take a painfully long time to load. Most are full of spelling errors. And very, very few are as insightful as people tend to think they are.

Surveys. The same twenty questions, repeated over and over until you plotz. What's your hair color? What's your mother's maiden name? When was your last good cry? It would be reasonable to think that most LiveJournallers would eventually come to the realization that all surveys are essentially the same, which in turn would cause them to throw up their hands in disgust and swear the bloody things off forever and ever. Wouldn't they? Wouldn't they???

Yes, surveys and quizzes are a lot of fun to take. Cracklike in their addictiveness, but without the chapped lips. But, like dreams and home movies, they are not meant to be shared. If you have a public LiveJournal, do your readers a favor and give them some actual content to gnaw over. Contrary to popular belief, a little picture and a caption explaining why you are more like Horshack than any of the other Sweathogs is not the best way to offer your readers a little glimpse into the deepest recesses of your psyche. It's not a way, period.

Lead through action, and take the Quizless pledge. Simply place this badge on your Info page (from your own image server, thank you) along with the date. If you have posted quizzes and surveys in the past, don't worry -- the pledge only applies to entries posted after the date you made the pledge.

Together, we can make LiveJournal a more interesting place.
