Hi, I'm moving to Denton this Oct. 1. I'm from California (LA.. Pasadena specifically) and it'll be my first time living in the Dallas area. I got a crazy story how I ended up here but I'll save that drama for later -- or never. I'm 20, Asian, Femme, Lesbian and in a relationship with
freysama who happens to go to TWU. I'll most likely transfer to TWU as well as soon as I'm in-state here. I'll be majoring either Fashion Merch. or Fashion Design. For now I'm just going to be looking for work.
So I got a few questions that could use an answer.
- What are your first opinions of Denton? On a scale of 1 to 10 how'd you rate the queer friendly environment there? What about that of UNT or TWU?
- I'm very much the type of person to help with PFLAG stuff (that's the first thing I checked with in terms of orgs to volunteer at) but I don't have time or transportation to yet. I know there's something called a Kroger card on the website, does anyone know how to obtain the card?
- Are there any local events where queers in Denton/Dallas casually chill at? I'm kind of a social person and I happen to enjoy either queer coffeehouse events or queer clubs. I'd say about at least 2 times in a month.
- I found a place to room at, it's at Fry street right near UNT. Are there any good places to work at around that part of town? I don't have a car right now so I'll be relying on bus&bike. Thanks.
- Lastly, is there any part of Dallas that is like a mini-queer urban area? I'm used to going to West Hollywood all the time (every queer should visit that place and club at least once at Rage) and I am kind of hoping there is something similar to that in Dallas.
If any of you happen to notice me around town, I'm the very short Asian girl named Carmie with red glasses, sometimes beside my boyish Caucasian girlfriend.. other times probably waiting at the bus stop or something.. oh or biking around..
See you all around then, starting Oct. 1! Hope you can help a little.
