today's reason I fucking love the open source community: Ageless Linux, a brand new Debian-based operating system specifically designed to break the law by giving children access to computers that explicitly refuse to track their age.

This is awesome on so many levels.

Ladies and Gentlemen i present to you John Carpenter’s The Thing, as performed by the claymated, Antarctic cast of the hit children’s animation Pingu. Directed by Lee Hardcastle, in under 3 minutes. Noot, Noot.

I’m still amazed at how they got a “noot noot” to sound so much like a “fuck you”

shame the original tweet didn’t exist until after they stopped doing party leadership spills on PMs down under, it definitely gives off Rudd/Gillard/Rudd/Turnbull/Abbott/Morrison vibes

(but it still works in this glorious 10000 reign of Chairman Ablo because of Peter Dutton/Sussan Ley/Angus Taylor (aka lmao look at the Liberal Party stepping on rakes))

i understand all that shit about honor and knighthood and solemn vows but “kingslayer” is simply a bad insult. it sounds cool as fuck. might as well call him the landlord annihilator or the billionaire’s bane.

which is what makes brienne still, after the bath confession, reflexively calling him that so damn funny. like with having that context especially it is essentially being called hitlerender

purpleshift

lmao, but Jaime’s problem is that he’s in a series whose POV characters are almost all nobles (i.e. basically the landlords/billionaires of the time/place) so he’s a Threat to the social order and must be ostracised (but really, that king needed killing)

to run with the hitlerender example, the hitlerender would then be a German who still hasn’t quite fully rejected the ideological baggage of Nazism and only ever hangs out with and talks to German Argentinians. you know the ones I mean. the ones who moved there only after about the middle of the 20th century, or in cruder terms, the ones who were on the Mossad hitlist. or maybe his social circle is like the guys who were not big enough names (or were too vital to running the place in comparison to what they personally did during the 40s) to get purged by West German denazification and ended up in conservative politics there.

anyway the point is that he’s hanging out with people who have pretty good reasons to not dismantle the ideology supporting the system of nobility/monarchy and that’s why it’s an insult that lands for him and not the reading audience, sorry to rain on everybody’s fun with the metal nicknames

The ways that exist to break this game that simultaneously do absolutely no damage to how this game functions are ASTONISHING.

When people argue that food from Chinese and Mexican restaurants in the US are not 'real' representations of that culture's cuisine ignore the historical reality that these dishes were developed by diasporic communities striving to recreate the flavors of home with available resources. Such criticism frames adaptation as a loss of authenticity, rather than recognizing it as a sincere and evolving expression of culture by people separated from their homeland.

While my undergrad is roughly academically equal in rank to Michigan State University, it is true that I did not attend MSU and I know little of its customs. I didn't actually mean to present myself as an alum when I bought a damn sweater at a thrift store; I just liked the logo and I knew my beloved, the Hodag, an alumnus of the MSU J-school, would be amused.

But it's such a comfortable sweater and I look fucking great in it, and I can tell Hodag likes to see me in their school colors. So I have this sweater with an MSU logo and a SUPER COOL zipper sleeve pocket (see picture) and I wear it everywhere.

And recently someone passed me on the street and was like "EYYYYYY MSU! fuckin awesome!"

I have stolen Sparty valor.

Who are our rivals? I gotta go pick some fights to justify my awesome sweater.

ingridverse

Could be worse. I bought a sweatshirt at a thrift store because it was like new and had a nice looking embroidered logo for something called Dual II, which I assumed was a twin-bladed razor it something.

I wore it to an organic farm and got some strange looks. Turns out Dual II is a pesticide.

I always thought “stealing your partner’s outerwear” was a classic romance trope, so isn’t there the option to go with that?
