pucklingSo. Recently midnightbex fired shots. Since I am all about proportionate response, I have created an extremely selective picspam of Jaromir Jagr designed to elicit all of the feels and also to hopefully incept people into writing Jags fic, plzkthks.
Back in the day Jaromir Jagr was an adorable baby.
An adorable baby with some interesting hair choices.
And by interesting I mean hideous. (art by orpikjam44, here is her Jagr tag)

Also this happened. I don't really know why, I don't really care, I am just pleased this exists and I have seen it.
He played some beautiful hockey.
And who was he playing that beautiful hockey with? (art again by by orpikjam44)
That's right.
His captain.
The man he won two cups with.
Mario effing Lemieux.
Look at that.
Much like some other dummies you might know and love *k&tcoughcough*, even international borders couldn't keep them apart.
And then Mario retired and the whole narrative was that Mario was going to be Jags guiding force, his mentor, they were going to be together forever, and be deeply in love, and Mario was going to watch approvingly as Jags lead their team to great things, and it was going to be beautiful. Or maybe that's the narrative in my head. >.> <.<
This video encapsulates this sentiment, by which I mean I basically cried at ofgeography to try and deal with all my feelings when Jags started stick tapping for Mario, Howe, and the Gretz.
Also in the outtakes Jaromir keeps smiling and his smile kinda makes me want to set myself on fire. Just fyi.
And then Mario came back!
Which should have been beautiful and gorgeous and full of love and Penguins hockey forever, but alas.
It was not to be. *cries*

After a stint in the KHL Jags decided to return to the NHL. There was the possibility he was going to return to the Pens, be reunited with Mario but then... well.
Anywho, Jags made new friends!

When you've been around as long as Jagr has you kinda get to make your own rules.
Plus you can be all sassy like.
Grow whatever weird facial hair you want.
Say hi to friends from old teams.
And when you have that much charisma to burn the press will eat it up with a spoon.
Things you get to tell the press when you are Jaromir Jagr.
Hanging with fellow old dude and living legend Martin Brodeur.
Informing your teammates what's what.
Course you gotta back that shit up.
At time I'm writing Jagr has 24 points, which puts him at 34th in the NHL, and has played in every single game for the Devils. He also leads his team in goals *and* assists. At the age of motherfucking 41. He has 3 Game Winning Goals this season, and is tied for the NHL record of GWG with Gordie Howe, and is tied with Yzerman for eight on the all times goal list.

That crossdressing pic is also great, but every time I see it I have a second where I'm convinced it's a pic of Benton Fraser. Not exactly a bad thing, but it makes me want more Due South/hockey crossovers.

Mario always came off as a bit of an egotist (not without good reason, but still) and Jagr was a refreshing change of pace to that. I can still remember watching his broken English pressers, on TV cause that's the only access we had back then (oh lord, now I feel so old), when the Pgh press deigned to show even a bit of them, and thinking he was just the most adorable thing ever.
And here we are ~23 years later and he's still fuckin' adorable. It's SO not fair.
