Pronouncing a name

I have an interview coming up for an apartment, and I am not familiar at all with names that are less than common (where I live anyway).

Maybe anyone here could help me, how to pronounce "Xiumei"?

Thanks in advance!

mini introduction and a clip

Hello everyone! :) I'm a native English speaker (from western Canada). I'm studying French, Spanish, and Japanese at university, and my pronunciation of other languages is really truly dreadful, so hopefully this community will help me to fix that! ;)

I have a quick question - what (free?) software is good for recording voices? Today I just used the default "Sound Recorder" that comes with Windows98, and I don't know if it's the program or the microphone or what, but the file I recorded ended up with a bunch of skips in it. If anyone has any idea of how I could stop this from happening, I'd really appreciate it. :)

Anyway, here is a short extract from Beware the Fish! by Gordon Korman.

(In the text I put parentheses around the words that were skipped when I recorded it.)

i think it's a bit difficult talking about pronunciation and praticing writing, anyway, i'm going to try.

in english, there are some words which have the sound "th" (generally) such as anything, they...

there's no problem pronouncing they, the or birth and with, but how do you do when that sound is in the middle of the word?

when you have the thongue busy with other syllabes? (anything, bathroom...)
