The staff of Project ROOTS is dedicated to providing campers with the best and most memorable experience of their lives. We hope to provide them with the tools that will help them make positive choices for the rest of their lives. By involving campers in workshops and activities on topics such as leadership, drug and alcohol awareness, planning presentations, health issues, relationships, team building, diversity, communication, stress relief, how to run a meeting, and how to build a sucessful school club, they have a chance to learn what is important, and what is needed at their school.
Family groups are composed of campers from all different schools, ages and backgrounds. They learn how to be an effective part of a team and how to depend on others for support. They discuss, play, laugh and cry together. This is often many campers' favorite part of camp. The mission of family groups is to provide a safe and healthy environment for teens to share their feelings and emotions as well as problems and questions about camp or issues in their schools. Family groups are run by trained members of staff to ensure learning and communication and also a lot of fun!
The main mission of Project ROOTS is for teens to leave camp with an action plan for their schools and communities. These ideas are anything from starting an alcohol and drug free group, such as SADD, or planning an important activity for their school, such as alcohol awareness week, presenting an assembly to their elementary or middle school, or showcasing diversity.
