We have got to stop framing our oppression in ways that promote the idea that other people cannot relate to our struggles. Not only does it isolate comrades in the struggle, it actively diminishes recognition of other struggles--often including those even more horrific than what we are at risk of. And this happens especially between Gay and Black struggles.

"when have straight people ever had to check what states were safe for them?" Sundown towns are still a thing. Starlight tours. What states have abortion access? What states have open carry? What states have stand your ground? What states have 3-strike rules? Women, people of color, disabled people, immigrants, and more have had to be abundantly cautious where they travel to. Straight trans people have much more travel risk right now than gay cis people.

It's a new iteration of the same tired question: "imagine if straight people weren't allowed to marry" interracial marriage in the US is younger than my parents. We disgrace people of color by forgetting their history and contemporary struggles, and we abandon queer people of color, Black queer people, by segmenting their overlapping fights.

As lovelyshananigans says, "intersectionality, babes"

“The police spend very little of their time dealing with violent criminals—indeed, police sociologists report that only about 10% of the average police officer’s time is devoted to criminal matters of any kind. Most of the remaining 90% is spent dealing with infractions of various administrative codes and regulations: all those rules about how and where one can eat, drink, smoke, sell, sit, walk, and drive. If two people punch each other, or even draw a knife on each other, police are unlikely to get involved. Drive down the street in a car without license plates, on the other hand, and the authorities will show up instantly, threatening all sorts of dire consequences if you don’t do exactly what they tell you. The police, then, are essentially just bureaucrats with weapons. Their main role in society is to bring the threat of physical force—even, death—into situations where it would never have been otherwise invoked, such as the enforcement of civic ordinances about the sale of untaxed cigarettes.”

since i think many will have had the memory slip with just how many other atrocities have occured in the past 11 years, or are simply too young to remember, the last bit about the sale of untaxed cigarettes isn’t just some hypothetical, it’s a reference to the killing of eric garner

this is the origin of the slogan “i cant breathe”, which was revived in the wake of the killing of george floyd.

I watched cops descend on a homeless encampment that had cropped up in a city park. It was known that soon the city was going to crack down on it, so a plethora of activists showed up. We were trying to help those people. We were told we had weeks to do so. Unexpectedly, days before Christmas, right in front of us, they showed up and pulled it all down. They tore open tents, and told everyone they had to leave. I watched these thugs feed the Christmas trees of the homeless into garbage trucks and chase these needy people into the wilderness. Activists setting up camps outside of town for them had to be careful not to be followed because the cops would demand they leave those too if found, because I guess the homeless are just supposed to lay down and die in the snow. What I saw wasn’t just brutal, merciless, and wildly unethical. It was sacrilege. They tore down the holy symbols of the needy days before the holy day. It was blasphemy. It was godless. It was psychotic. It was disgusting. I am not obliged to respect the personhood of cops. People don’t act this way, drones do. Uniforms do. You put on this blood drenched godless disgusting uniform and you take off your personhood. Cops aren’t people. Blue lives don’t matter. Smurfs aren’t human and these pinkerton thugs can gargamel my balls forever.

unfortunately they are still people, i do not say this to give them respect but to keep awareness of what humans are capable of, you are not immune to propaganda, my suggestion is to destroy that blood drenched godless disgusting uniform in a way so that it won’t come back

I do think the Hank Green AI thing makes it abundantly clear that if you have ADHD or any other mental illness and/or you are prone to addiction you need to avoid AI at all costs. This shit will rope you in, and if you have a mental illness that say, starves your brain of dopamine, you're gonna be extra susceptible to that. I won't use AI for a lot of reasons but one of the big ones is knowing how it would fuck with my ADHD and bipolar. Like yes, it's bad for the environment and giving money to rich scumbags and runs on plagarism, but even more than all that, it's straight up not safe at all and you really shouldn't use it if for no other reason than to protect yourself from whatever the fuck it might do to you.

we need more fat fitness instructors and I'm dead fucking serious

biggest-gaudiest-poltergeist

to be seen on social media, fitness instructors basically always have to have contemporarily attractive body types. whereas fitness instructors you meet in real life have a huge variety of body types.

being a well-qualified fitness instructor requires education and experience and yes, usually a significant level of fitness, be that strength, flexibility, stamina, so on.

Many people have all of those qualifications, while also being fat.

Perhaps the biggest lie advertising has sold you is that being "fit" means being thin. That is spectacularly untrue. The world is filled with fat athletes, amateur, professional, in all variety of sports, performing remarkable feats any of us would be damn proud to accomplish. That's a hell of a lot of experience and talent, including many educators you or I would be lucky to learn from.

Deadly egg recall

screenshot of an article title: Egg Recall Update: FDA Issues Highest Risk Warning for Millions of Eggs. Aug 14, 2026ALT

The FDA has upgraded an egg recall issued last month to “Class I,” its highest risk level, as it warns the public that consuming the products could cause “serious adverse health consequences or death.”

The recall of 1,589,577 dozen white-shell eggs and brown cage-free shell eggs was initially issued by Midwest Poultry Services in late July, which warned they might be contaminated with Salmonella Enteritidis.

According to the company, the eggs were produced and distributed from farms in Texas between June 6 and July 3 and have sell-by or best-by dates between July 20 and August 17. The recalled egg cartons have either the code P-1950 or 0840962 and Julian Dates between 157-184.
