GNC story

Yesterday I went to get those supplements that sound like a Greek Resturant... the ones clevergirl recommended to prevent future yeast infections. It was after my Street Harassment Project meeting, and I had a good 41 minutes before my train left Penn Station for NJ, so I checked out the GNC in Penn. Usually there are two ladies working there, this time there was a teenage boy.

Now, I assume it is REALLY boring working there, because there are at least 2 GNC's in Penn station and it must be slow. So I expected him to ask me for help. When I told him I didn't need it though, I expected him to GO AWAY. All the pills are locked up behind Plexiglass, there is nothing to steal! There was no reason to follow me around this VERRRRA small store. "Are you sure you don't need help?" "No, thank you." I FINALLY found what I thought were the supplements I wanted, but I wanted to read the back of the bottle to make sure I had it right. Since he was standing RIGHT THERE watching me and making me feel strange, I asked him to open the case and let me read the bottle because I was trying to figure out if this was what I wanted. He told me to read this huge book they had by the door. I did, they were the right thing, and I told him I wanted them.

THEN HE ASKED ME WHAT THEY WERE FOR. First off, he should KNOW. There was a WALL of these supplements, and there were 4 different kinds of GNC brands. You can have "Ulra" "Mega" "Potent" and the standard version of Greek Resturant Yeast Pills, so he should know what the hell they are and what they do, because he works there and that is his job! SECOND OF ALL, that's RUDE! Am I right? Was I just too annoyed at that point? I mean, they have a bunch of supplements at GNC for PROBLEMS, so I would think it's as rude as looking through people's medicine cabinets and asking them what their pills are for.

"People sometimes use them to help digest dairy. I am using it to prevent more yeast infections."
"Oh."
"I need the BIG bottle."

He rang me up without another word. They were $ 14! (Although it WAS a big bottle)I wish people were more open about things like yeast infections, but I guess for now it's OK if it keeps the teenagers away.
