Exactly as the title says. I now realize that the human race has no hope. In times of crisis people DO revert into self-centred rocks incapable of rational thought.

First, there was that protest. I already rambled about it on facebook, so I won't do it here. (add me: internets.com@hotmail.com if you're interested in reading the rant. Please comment.)

I got a bunch of private messages from the - shall I say, more intelligent people on my friends list agreeing with me. Yes, I AM being objective here, because all the people who mailed me about it are all the kids who made honour roll in high school. And yes, like it or not I AM using that as a measure of objectivity. You know why? Because it just so happens that these "smart kids" are also the ones double majoring, or in more expensive programs like science, engineering, business, economics, and also a Law graduate student. And hence paying around double if not more than everyone else. Oh, by the way, most of them don't get scholarships in their program no matter how good their marks are. AND YET THEY'RE NOT THE ONES COMPLAINING ABOUT FEES.

I really don't understand why York students in particular protested. We pay one of the lowest tuitions in Ontario - and definitely the lowest tuition to University prestige ratio. We have had a tuition freeze since 2003. And you know where that got us? Well, gee, there is this STRIKE that came out of absolutely nowhere.*

York University also gets made fun of for having lower fees and a lower admittance average. OH YORK, WHY WOULD YOU PISS ALL OVER YOUR GOOD NAME LIKE THAT? Ohhhhhh right, because you lowered your fees and had to make up for the deficit by opening a bunch of bullshit courses so all the lower-income people in the surrounding area could go to your university for the promise of recieving a Bachelor's degree, and you don't tell them that IT'S A FUCKING RAT RACE BECAUSE NOW THAT ANYONE CAN GET A Ba YOU THEN HAVE TO GET A MASTER'S AND HENCE SPEND MORE MONEY.

Oh, and back to my point. For other universities, I'M LOOKING AT YOU, UofT, who protested... lower your fees and you'll end up just like York "for anyone who can use a fork" University. Did you like lording your "exclusivity" and "better education" over us? That's right, lower your fees too, Pinkos.

First of all, the government ALREADY subsidizes University, which is bullshit enough in my opinion. Universities are PRIVATE INSTITUTIONS. And they're supposed to be, you know why? There's a certain thing called CENSORSHIP that happens when someone else is paying your bills. It was bad enough that York University was sponsered by coca cola for 8 years.

Make them subsidize it more and guess what will happen? HIGHER TAXES. So you pay money to save money. Genius, why didn't we think of that before? Oh yeah, it's called Cosco, and it's a fucking rip off.

But here's the thing - and I think is my strongest point - why the hell are we going after the government at all? I'm sorry if this sounds "elitest" but $8000 (or so) a year really isn't that much. That's $666 (ooooh heretic!) a month, and if you can't afford that then you need to get a job that pays minimum wage. OH WAIT! You shouldnt do that, or you wouldnt be eligible for OSAP. In fact a lot of people are complaining about Tuition not because tuition is high, but because they take out osap and (allegedly) don't want to be "in debt til their 30s" (their words, not mine.) So therefore, OSAP is the source of their concern and not the universities, OR the government. So why aren't they campaigning against OSAP?

God, people, wake the fuck up. NO shit you want to save money. EVERYONE wants to save money. You know what would save even more money? Not going to school. Stop letting your intuition cloud your judgement. Do people really think that the issue at hand is as simple as dropping fees with no consequences?

Oh, and here's the final nail in the coffin: FACEBOOK GROUPS - protesting the strikes.

Believe me Lindsay I have look into trying to get CUPE to compensate us rather then the University but apparently by law they have the right to strike and that human right trumps our privilege of post secondary school because University is not yet a right therefore we are going after the school, and you are right the TA's do not have a fair bargaining contract

Stupid human rights! Always getting in the way of my damn refund!

Julie you will not be banned from this group because you are free to say your opinion even though I will have nothing myself to do with supporting you, no one will be banned unless they become profound. But please do understand this group is to support the actually victims in this crisis of strike not the people causing it.

Just to make you all aware once again a great way to make our voices heard is to go to the day of action on Wednesday Nov 5 at Vari Hall to voice our opinion and I am working on getting media support I have been corresponding with CTV and CBC and they may be there that day, so please come out!

If you can't spot what's wrong with that last quote, then god help you.

So you know what? Fuck everyone here. I'm sick of certain left wing talking heads ruining my education by giving the rest of us a bad name. Next semester I'll go get a quality NON CENSORED education at a private college. Because underneath it all, I want an education, not a wal-mart diploma.
