I am a father of three little ones, biggest and smallest are on my lap helping me read a story in my userpic. Not sure where the middle one was, probably doing something naughty. Reading stories is something I get asked to do a lot, and they love listening to CDs of stories over and over and over again. I figured it would be cool to record me reading them some stories, then burn a few CDs so they could listen to that instead whilst I sit downstairs with a beer and a curry :-) After I recorded a couple of CDs I thought it would be rather cool if I could share those recordings with others and play back recordings of bedtime stories from other people to my kids. Folk from all over the place, with accents I would even find tough to understand. Capetown, New Delih, New Orleans, Glasgow etc. This would probably help the kids understand people from diverse places better than I can. Another aspect of sharing these recordings would be the benefit to kids from families with for whatever reason, just the mother bringing up the kids. There are kids out there who talk to the mother, the female nursery staff, the female primary school teachers, and never hear a bloke read a story to them or even the sound of a male voice until they are in secondary school. So I put together a website (cos I am a geek underneath the daddy bit) called A Story For Bedtime where I am collecting a repository of MP3 files of bedtime stories. I have been talking to publishers of childrens books and I have copyright permissions to freely share the audio recordings which is really cool (childrens book publishers are much nicer than the rest of the media industry!) so come along and check it out, please read some stories, or even make up an original story, and let me know how you get on.
